    29th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR A 0CT, 18 2020

‘’Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and God what belongs to God’.’ -(Giving God His Dues)

Jesus' opponents often questioned him on matters concerning religion, and his answers only served to increase his reputation. His enemies then shifted their questions to affairs of the state. Two groups attempted to entrap Jesus about the legitimacy of paying taxes to Rome. The Herodians, supporters of Rome's puppet-king Herod, favored the tax, while the Pharisees objected to being subjected to a foreign power. Jesus faced a dilemma. His answers might involve him either with the Roman government, or with the great Sanhedrin. No matter how he responded, one or the other group would be dissatisfied. Jesus asked to see one of the Roman coins bearing the inscription: "Tiberius Caesar, Son of the Divine Augustus" (14-37 AD).

Since his opponents were using the emperor's coins and participating in his economic system, they had already taken upon themselves the duty of paying taxes to the emperor. Jesus, the true Son of the August God, told his opponents to pay the tax. Money belonged to the temporal order, and its power was transitory. Jesus challenged his opponents to look at a deeper level. The Pharisees who confront Jesus with Caesar’s coin are trying to trap him into making a choice between one’s country and God. But Jesus’ response indicates that one’s citizenship does not have to be at odds with one’s faith; in fact, when government seeks to provide for the just welfare of its citizens, it becomes a vehicle for establishing the reign of God.

We must repay to God what belongs to God in our personal life, our social life, our professional life. And say yes, even to our political life. This week let us not be afraid to challenge some of our belief that may not align with social values of the world. Let us examine Scripture and hear God talking to us for Scriptures are for every age and all time. And know that whether we are rendering unto Caesar or unto God, that all things will someday be one and God shall reign. FR John Katamba

CARE MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT This week in the Care Ministry spotlight I would like to introduce you to Bonny Meacham. Bonny is a breath of fresh air with all her energy and passion. She has been a member of the Care Ministry for a few years now bringing Holy Communion to our parish members on 1st Friday. When you talk with Bonny one thing that stands out is her bright positive outlook. You can see her love of Jesus and her desire to share it with others. In fact that love of Jesus goes beyond bringing Holy Communion. She was instrumental in getting the Alpha program running here at Sacred Heart. She recruited others to help lead, came early and set the room and made sure the meals were in place. She coordinated her material with other parishes in the area that were doing Alpha as well. When the Alpha retreat was in the planning stages there was Bonny working side by side with others. She also loves to lector at the 4:30 Mass and will help out wherever she is needed.

When you spend a few minutes talking with her you can’t help but feel uplifted. That is why she is a perfect fit to visit our parish members and lead groups.

Thank you Bonny for embracing your parish and the shining example of faith you are to others. Kelly Koszalinski

Deaon Dan - Prayerful Reflections on Mary

Spiritual Adoption 39 Weeks At 39 weeks babies are now considered full term. Most weigh 7 to 8 pounds and measure 19-21 inches long.

All of baby`s organs are ready for life outside the womb. Baby`s immune system is boosting up these last few weeks. Antibodies are passed to baby from mom thru the placenta. Babies should still be actively moving and kicking at week 39. Moms don’t worry if you go past the due date. Make sure your hospital bag is ready to go. Anytime now baby may want out of the womb. With that all ready, mom can still take daily walks but also grab extra time for self-rest before baby`s arrival. Keep praying - almost there, any moment now!

    Burning Bush Species: “Euonymus alatus”

Euonymus, roughly translated, comes from the Greek meaning "good name" or "of good repute". The species name alatus means

    "winged".

Bible Reference: Exodus 3:1-7 Named for its bright red Fall color, the burning bush represents many things to Jews and Christians such

as God's miraculous energy, sacred light, illumination, and the burning heart of purity, love and

clarity. From a human standpoint, it also represents Moses' reverence and fear before the divine presence.
