THOUGHTS TO PONDER

Marriage Call the office six months in advance to schedule date and begin the necessary preparation.

Again, Happy Easter!

Although Easter Sunday is behind us, Easter is a 50 day season! We may not have gathered with family or parishioners this Easter Sunday, but let's keep praying that Covid-19 retreats and we can advance from our homes into the sunshine of Spring! St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Please God, we will be able to make Pentecost, the last day of the Easter season and a big feast day all by itself, very special indeed. As I write, for some reason a phrase comes to mind: Have courage and be kind. I first heard it five years ago. This pearl of wisdom was spoken by Cinderella's mother in the 2015 version of that classic. Watch it this Easter if you haven't already, or watch it again. Dying and saying goodbye, trying to give a lifetime of lessons and wisdom to her daughter before leaving her child, she said, "Have courage and be kind." I hope we ponder that advice as we come out of quarantine and continue our celebration of Easter. As we face the surprises and the crosses and the anxieties of life, let's always push back boldly with courage and kindness. In one of the final scenes of Cinderella, as Cinderella was rescued from her wicked stepmother, she turned back to her and with the purest and more sincere voice, said, "I forgive you." In most movies, we see the villain humiliated or dying some horrific death. In this movie, Cinderella's last interaction involved three of the kindest words one can speak. It makes me think of some of our Lord's final words as he was dying on the cross: Father forgive them, for they know not what they do. Each Easter season we seek new life. But the only true life is the Life of Christ, so let us imitate him more faithfully. Then we will experience the new life we seek. And he will set us free. Rev. Joseph E. Dorner Pastor of St. Bernadette Catholic Church Pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church

From the desk of Laura Savoie As we are unable to gather for worship and share our gifts with the parish at Mass, we now have a new way to share. The Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Green Bay has provided us with a link to use on our website www.sacredheartappleton.com for parishioners and friends to donate online to Sacred Heart Parish by credit card or by direct debit directly from your bank account. Look for the orange donate button on the website! This is provided to us for use during this difficult time free of charge to the parish and 100% of your donation comes to Sacred Heart Parish. As always, you can mail your envelopes to the office at 222 E. Fremont St., Appleton, Wi 54915 or drop them in the “weekend mail slot’” outside door #1 on Fremont St. God Bless you all and may the good Lord keep you safe

FAMILY OF THE MONTH

Care Ministry Outreach to Parish MembersThank you to the team of volunteers who are reaching out in love to call all of our parish members. Calls began this week as we offer our support and prayer to them. What a beautiful way to stay connected to everyone until we can be together again at Mass.

The Knights of Columbus Council 12269 would like to congratulate the John & Amanda Lauer family as our family of the month. John and Amanda have 4 children and 6 grand children. John and Amanda are both very active members of our community and Sacred Heart Parish. John is the lead for the Hospitality committee, a member of the worship committee and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Amanda is a lector and leads the rosary. Both John and Amanda also lead the Focus group, which is a marriage preparation group for engaged couples facilitating communication. Many thanks to the Lauer family for everything that you do.

Despite the restrictions we have all experience because of the Coronavirus, Sacred Heart is still participating in reaching out and helping the homeless people at the Fox Valley Warming Shelter (Pillars). Early this year we signed up to provide food and servers for the shelter on Friday April 24th, Sunday June 28th, Friday September 25th and Friday November 20th. Because of the virus we didn't know if we would get any volunteers for April 24th even though the need still exists. Last weekend, Pillars transferred all the clients from their existing facility to the Clarion Inn on College Avenue (old Best Western) so they could put 2 clients in each room. They also transferred thirty clients from other shelters for a total of 90. Thirteen families from Sacred heart will be providing enough food to feed the 90 clients at the Clarion with Sacred Heart buying the main entre of Lasagna and Italian bread. We will deliver the food to their parking lot and Staff member will come out to our cars to pick up the food and serve it with the help of some clients. I would like to thank the families who volunteered to bring food and Sacred Heart for continuing to reach out to the needy in this difficult time. Hopefully, our lives will soon get back to normal so we can continue to serve and help the less fortunate in our community and the world. Yours in Christ, Paul & Sherry Bauer

FAITH FORMATION UPDATE Sacrament of Confirmation - As the Diocese awaits reopening public Masses, we have postponed Confirmation to a later date. More information will be given as our parishes reopen.

Confirmation Prep - Our students have been successfully completing their preparation online with their catechist and are eager to receive the sacrament when it is safe to do so.

Sacred Heart and Saint Bernadette parishes are growing!

We are excited to announce two new youth program positions that we are

looking to fill this summer. Job descriptions can be found on our websites and Facebook pages.

Please email a resume and cover letter to Gina Rosso at [email protected] When the CDC came out and said, Everyone

should wear a cloth face cover when they have to go out in public, Sacred Heart Parish received a call from COTS asking if we had anyone who could sew face masks for 64 of their people! Lil Huebner was sewing masks,

so when she heard they were in need, she went right to work! She has made 70+ masks to meet the need! Thank you Lil for representing Sacred Heart Parish so beautifully and filling a need in the community. God Bless you, Lil!

Thank you to the following parish members who directed their Thrivent Choice program dollars to Sacred Heart Parish in the total amount of $366.00! God Bless you for remembering our parish! Margaret Klatt, Mark Vander Linden and Catherine Weber.
