YEAR 4 TO 7 STUDENTS
HAVE RETURNED FROM
THEIR CAMP TO ILLAWONGA
(I think they had a great time!)
PRINCIPAL’S REPORTPRINCIPAL’S REPORT
Welcome Back to Term 4!
SEPTEMBER’S WEATHER SEPTEMBER’S WEATHER EVENTEVENT Thank you to the students, their
families and our staff for your
understanding and helpfulness during
the terrible weather in the last week
of term.
Although it was almost a non-event
on Thursday when the students were
being sent home early, the weather
deteriorated when the staff would
have been on the roads had this
decision not been made.
Absent students have been coded D/
R, as day-long absence due to a
risk / hazard.
REJUVINATED CAR PARKREJUVINATED CAR PARK
You may have noticed a few
differences in the car park this term,
thanks for your patience in adapting
to the new situation.
We were able to widen the driveway
to the car park which reduces the
angle that cars need to turn into the
area and should alleviate some of
the bottlenecking that occurs on a
daily basis.
The new surface, although not
bitumen, will prevent the damage to
cars being caused by the potholes-
to this end please refrain from driving
heavy vehicles (other than the school
buses) in this area.
The entrance will be bituminised and
signage will be installed once the
weather improves.
ENROLMENTSENROLMENTS
We have received a significant
number of new enrolments in the last
few weeks and are about to
commence looking at class
configurations for 2017.
If you know of any people who are
moving to our area, please persuade
them to contact us soon; as an
increase of 2-3 students can
sometimes enable a new class to be
formed.
STAFFINGSTAFFING
This week we welcome David
Egglestone who will be taking Karyn
Rusby’s classes for the remainder of
the year while she is on Long Service
Leave.
On Friday we also welcome Carolyn
Rigney to the staff team as our
Aboriginal Community Education
Officer for one day per week.
We wish them all well for the term
ahead.
PRESENTATION NIGHTPRESENTATION NIGHT
Invitations will be sent out soon for the
OAS Presentation Night - Wednesday
23 November 6:30pm (sharp).
It is vitally important that an RSVP is
received to ensure seats are
allocated for you and your family
wishing to attend.
ATTENDANCEATTENDANCE
During the holidays, Bev Bonython
and I met with Margret Megson,
Attendance & Family Focus Officer
for DECD, to develop an action plan
to reduce the number of students with
chronic non-attendance (10 days or
more per term).
Our strategy will include multiple
calls, regular meetings at school and
potentially home-visits in an attempt
to convey the message that it is not
ok not be at school!
If you or your student/s experience
barriers in getting to school please
contact Bev Bonython or the relevant
year level leader:
Trudy Holland (Reception – 6),
Brenton Hoskin (Years 7-9),
Kirsty Rogers (Years 10-12)
as soon as possible.
Have a great fortnight

DEBT COLLECTION All outstanding 2015 and 2016 debts have now been sent to the DECD Debt
Recoveries Unit.
Parents/Caregivers received an original tax invoice at the beginning of the
year, a statement of reminder in May, then FINAL NOTICE in July.
Many families have chosen to ignore these requests for payment.
When the Debt Collection process commences, additional fees start to incur
which you will also be responsible for paying.
As an example, an outstanding debt which started at $320.00 incurred an
additional amount of $338.80 in admin and court fees resulting in a total
amount of $658.80 being owed to DECD.
Parents have until Friday 4 November to come into the Front Office to finalise
their outstanding account or pay via EFT.
Our Bank details are:
BSB 105-057
Account: 241323740
Reference = Family Code which is on your account.
2017 MATERIALS AND SERVICES FEES The fees have been set by School Council for 2017.
Please refer to the ‘watermarked’ notices which will be sent out via a separate
email.
2017 Materials and Services Fees will be:
$328.00 Reception – Year 6
$515.00 Year 6 – 9

ROUND ROBIN TENNIS COMPETITIONROUND ROBIN TENNIS COMPETITION
At the end of Term 3 Oakbank Area School competed in a Round Robin Tennis
competition.
This competition was supposed to be played at Birdwood, but due to their courts
being resurfaced the competition was switched to the courts at Balhannah. This
would not have been possible without the cooperation of the Onkaparinga
Tennis club. A huge thankyou is aimed in their direction from the community at
Oakbank Area School.
Teams were entered in both Year 8/9 Boys and Year 8/9 Girls. The boys team
consisted of Harry Maider, Jackson Sziller, Jack Brown, Michael McGlinchey
and Tallis Richardson and they played against Birdwood High School and
Blackwood High School. The girls team consisted of Sophie Yeates, Jackie
Megson, Olivia Mergard and HCCS student Nicole Bond-Waller and they played
against Birdwood High School and Seymour College.
The boys team was completely outplayed against both Birdwood and
Blackwood. Harry got the best score in a singles match against Birdwood, losing
6 - 3 while Tallis went down 6 - 1 in his singles match. Tallis and Michael need a
special mention as they are both Year 7 boys who were prepared to play
against older students, and without them OAS wouldn't have been able to enter
this team.
The girls team lost to Seymour. Best contributors were Nicole in singles going
down 6 - 2, Sophie in singles going down 6 -1 and Sophie and Nicole in doubles
going down 6 - 2. The girls won their match against Birdwood, partly due to the
fact that Birdwood only had 2 players in a 4 player team. Sophie played
superbly in her singles match winning 6 games to nil. This gave us a 4 matches
to nil unbeatable lead and as Blackwood and Seymour had left, the students
from Birdwood and Oakbank then played some fun games against each other.
It was particularly pleasing to sit back with the Birdwood teachers and watch
the students from each school interact and organise themselves. The students
showed great initiative to organise some mixed singles and doubles
matches against each other and even pair up to play doubles with someone
from the other school. It really was a treat to witness and students from both
schools can be especially proud of this positive interaction.
A big thankyou also needs to go to the parents who braved the chilly conditions
to watch the students play. Your presence was much appreciated by the
players and myself.

Magdalene Centre, Army Cadets, BloodBank, and Guide dogs SA. A BIG
