What is Camp-2-You? Summer VBS Program Brought to you by FPC, Trinity Presbyterian
& St . James What is Camp-2-You? Camp-2-You is a weeklong unique blend of outdoor ministries and congregational ministry. It is a joint effort between the camp and the congregation. C2U is designed for young people who are entering grades 1st-6th. Ferncliff will provide programming (staff, art supplies, game equipment, curriculum resources, and mis-cellaneous stories and activities) and the congregation will provide support services, promotion of the program, and involvement in the program as arranged between the camp program director and the congregation’s coordinator. The curriculum is activity based, which encourages hands-on learning. Purpose The purpose of Camp-2-You is to assist congregations in providing a quality Christian outdoor ministry experience at their site. During this time, we hope to get young people enthused about camping, but our bigger goal is to get them enthused about congregational ministry and a life with Christ. Our hope is that your C2U will be a program of youth evangelism and outreach for your church. This is why con-gregational involvement is so important. Strength The strength of Camp-2-You is people. C2U teams are comprised of young adults who are selected for their Christian commitment and love of children. They are trained to lead Bible studies, worship, songs, crafts and recreation. It is relational ministry and our emphasis is to offer quality Christian role models for young people.
Uniqueness The uniqueness of Camp-2-You is flexibility. Camp staff will work with each church to design a program specifically to meet the needs of your church. This manual will help your church consider and plan for a C2U experience this summer.
Go to www.firstprestexarkana.org to register. If you would like to volunteer to help with Camp 2 U, please join us on Sunday, June 10th at 5:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall to learn how or if you have any
questions, please contact Chris Walraven.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT IS TO SHARE THE LOVE OF CHRIST,
TO EMPOWER PEOPLE TO SERVE, AND TO GLORIFY GOD.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Christian Education Committee and the Youth Council are seeking volunteers to help work with our teenag-ers. Josh Davitt is doing a great job with our Youth Group, and we extend our sincere thanks to him. How-ever, this is more than a one-volunteer job... we need a small team. If you are willing to volunteer in this man-ner, please let Josh Davitt know. Thank you for your prayerful consideration of this most important ministry for our Youth. Volunteers also continue to be needed to present pro-grams following Family Night Supper on Wednesday nights. We have been having a great time with the var-ious programs presented! THANK YOU to those who have filled this void these past several weeks! If you have something you would like to share, there is a sign-up sheet on the round table outside the Fellowship Hall.
CARD MINISTRY FPC’s card ministry still meets once a week from 10 to 12 on Wednesday mornings. The regular crew consists of Shirley, Margo, Valery, and Linda. Sometimes only three make it, and occasionally Joan comes to join us and she swells the group to five. We each have certain jobs that have become our “specialties.” Shirley likes to color, which takes the most time. Margo fills orders from Cynthia, who writes messages and addresses the birthday cards. Valery is the organizer of the room and the supplies, and that is a constant challenge! Linda, along with Margo, is a creator and enjoys using our box of scraps. Of course, it’s never too early to start on Christmas cards. Last, but not least, Ted Cline writes notes and addresses the cards that Beth Morgan sends to the angel quilt recipients. We have fun and hopefully let folks know that we are thinking about them.
The card ministry usually takes off the month of July, but feel free to visit us any other time. We’d love to share ideas from and with you. We have our own workroom upstairs just around the cor-ner from the water fountain.

DOORWAYS HOME PROGRAM We want to convey our sincere thanks for all the folks that contributed time and funds toward
the Welcome Home Kits for the clients moving into housing. We delivered the 20 kits which will be

YOUTH NEWS Summer is here! Once upon a time summer was for sleeping late and spending lazy days around water, but not so much anymore. Today it’s a chance to cram in everything we can’t get done dur-ing the school year. FPC youth tell me that they sit all day in school, rush to practice, do homework and the last thing they want to do is sit and have a lesson at youth group. This is evident in the high number of kids who show up to go bowling compared to those who come for lessons. Being in school myself right now, I can tell you it is stressful!
Understandably, adults/parents perceive the value of Christian education. Can’t we empathize with both perspectives? If youth aren’t learning the stories of God at church, where will they? But if they can’t spend some time being “kids,” when will they?
Students aren’t that different than adults. They show up for what they value, and during adoles-cence there is a high value on relationships. In 2018, we have to strike a happy balance with youth. They aren’t motivated to sit and read through book chapters, but at the same time we are called to impart biblical knowledge on to them. When we are doing it right, students are interested and en-gaged, and are able to apply what they learn to their own life.
For the next few weeks, we will be working our way through lessons on the Patriarchs and the 12 tribes of Israel because these stories are im-portant toward understanding God’s relationship with creation. Through activities, music, games, and movies, we will be learning about the stories in Genesis and considering why they matter to us in 2018. There are fun ways to teach and work with youth and motivate them to engage. Pray for us as we learn about the high priests and covenants and as we seek understanding and wisdom. FPC youth are the future of the church; please contact me if you would like to get more involved!
