Helping the homeless Addressing the challenges faced by Adelaide’s homeless is a complex issue that inspires passion, particularly for UniSA lecturer and researcher, Dr Katia Ferrar.

On any given night, more than 5,000 South Australians experience homelessness, and they experience unique barriers when it comes to accessing health services.

In partnership with The Salvation Army, Dr Ferrar spearheaded the development and launch of UniSA’s Open Door Health Clinic, a facility offering pro bono physiotherapy and podiatry services to the homeless and people in crisis.

While working to improve health and wellbeing outcomes for at risk community members, the Clinic also delivers rewarding learning experiences for students, who work under the supervision of qualified clinical educators.

Students are able to develop an increased sense of social justice, become more adaptable in the delivery of health care services, and are exposed to the realities of communities in need.

Dr Ferrar is highly celebrated and has been recognised as the AMP Tomorrow Maker 2016, Winnovation Awards finalist 2017 and Unsung Hero of Science finalist 2018.

REAL-WORLD EXPERIENCE Develop your skills and professional networks beyond the classroom. We partner with elite sporting teams, hospitals and community-based

organisations, including the Calvary Wakefield Hospital, Adelaide United Football Club, SA Metropolitan Fire Service, and Helping Hand Aged Care to

bring you practical, hands-on experience through a range of scholarships and placements. We also have unique collaborations with organisations like The Repat Foundation – The Road Home, which provide placement and learning opportunities for students across different health disciplines. Through this

partnership, students use the power of sport to support wounded, injured and sick service personnel through our global-first Invictus Pathways Program.

FLYING HIGH We have partnered with the Adelaide Football Club to provide opportunities

for student placements and research collaborations. Students can apply their learnings in exercise and sport science in an elite sporting environment

working alongside AFL sports scientists and high performance coaches. There are also opportunities to engage in sports research focusing on

optimal player performance and injury prevention.

UNIQUE DEGREES We offer South Australia’s only degrees in pharmacy, pharmaceutical science and

medical radiation science (medical imaging, radiation therapy and nuclear medicine). We also have the state’s only fully-accredited undergraduate degrees in podiatry,

physiotherapy, exercise and sport science, occupational therapy and clinical exercise physiology. You can also enrol in one of our unique double degrees, combining

also available.

HANDS-ON NURSING DEGREE

NATIONAL POLICE CERTIFICATE AND DEPARTMENT FOR HUMAN SERVICES CHILD-RELATED CLEARANCE All students in the Division of Health Sciences who, as part of their program, undertake activities where interaction with patients/the public is required, such as in field or clinical placements/visits and in University clinics and gyms, must demonstrate that they have a current National Police Certificate (NPC) through SAPOL (or their home state police service) and a current Department of Human Services (DHS) Child-Related Clearance, which is valid for the duration of the program. The National Police Check will list disclosable court outcomes that may prevent clinical placement involvement.

STUDENT REGISTRATION All students enrolled in a program leading to professional registration must be registered with the relevant national board. The student registration process is undertaken by the University to the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) after enrolment. No fees apply.

IMMUNISATION REQUIREMENTS In order to progress to clinical placement you must be screened and provide evidence of your immunisation status. Immunisation is a mandatory requirement across all healthcare placement providers. Non-compliance with the Health Care Workers Immunisation Policy Directive will prevent you from progressing to a placement. Additional requirements may apply.

international profession with different birthing practices all over the world, you will learn how political, socio-cultural, economic and technological factors influence midwifery practice. Learn in our clinician-led, authentic simulated hospital and health service on campus, which incorporates a midwifery and paediatric unit, and technologies such as a birthing manikin. Complete comprehensive placement hours and be actively involved in 30 births during your studies, along with the pre and post-birth care of at least 100 women, and following 15 women through continuity of care experiences. Graduate with the academic requirements needed for registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Graduate with honours in just four years and prepare for a career as a medical scientist focusing on diagnostic pathology or research. Learn to play a vital role in the welfare of patients by supporting clinicians in the diagnosis, management and treatment of disease, conducting research into causes and cures of disease, and developing improved methods for disease detection. Build fundamental knowledge in biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, molecular pathology, haematology and histopathology. Study South Australia’s only degree that will qualify you as an accredited exercise physiologist in just four years. Discover how to use exercise management to prevent disease onset and treat a range of cardiovascular, respiratory, metabolic, neurologic, musculoskeletal and cancer conditions. Study core courses in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, motor learning and control, exercise and sport psychology, and exercise programming and nutrition. You will also complete specialised training in pathophysiology, clinical exercise assessment and prescription, and occupational rehabilitation. FEES All domestic undergraduate students at the University of South Australia are in Commonwealth-supported places. Students in these places pay a contribution of their fees depending on the program chosen and the contribution band in which those courses are classified (see table below). The amount of your student contribution also depends on the unit value of your courses of study.

As per the Australian Government guidelines, the student contribution amounts for 2019 are:
