Direct from Mr Jovanovski! Firstly, I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all the students, teachers, parents and members of the Flowerdale P.S community for giving me such a warm welcome this week. It has been a very enjoyable week embedding myself in the community, all whilst becoming a part of the fantastic programs the school has to offer. It has been a great experience so far and I am very excited to spend the rest of the year with you all. Foundation Transition This week has not only seen the start of my role at the school, but also on Tuesday we welcomed out newest additions to the F.P.S community, our 2022 foundation class. It was lovely to meet our new students and parents alike! The foundation class met their teacher, Miss Davis, who took them through some exciting activities as well as a teddy bear picnic which we all enjoyed together. Remembrance Day Remembrance Day was held on Thursday the 11th of November. The school held a service where we honoured the heroes which served with a minute of silence. Following this, many of our senior students stood bravely, like those they were acknowledging, and shared poems and prayers written about this day. Our school captains, Olivia and Violet, laid down a wreath in honour of the fallen soldiers, following which our junior students laid down some wreathes which they made themselves. It was an honour to see such respect shown by our students at the service.
OSHC Approved It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce that the school has been successful in receiving a grant for a before and after school care program. This has been accepted for a three-year period and we look forward to offering this program to many students during its course. The program will commence at the beginning of the 2022 school year. Job Opportunity We are currently looking for an out of school hours care (OSHC) coordinator to run our before and after school care program in 2022. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT CONT… World Teachers Day Officially, on the 5th of October it is world Teachers Day. This year however, due to COVID lockdowns, we were unable to take a moment collectively to say thank-you to our teachers on that day. Instead, we took some time on Tuesday to say thank-you to all our hard-working teachers with a morning tea. The students wrote lovely messages which highlighted how much they appreciate our teachers and all that they do for them. I would like to say thank-you to all of the staff for all the hard work they put into the classroom and behind the screens, all in the effort to aid and progress our student’s education and wellbeing.

Farewell to our beloved Chaplain Kerry Cook
We have been fortunate to have had Kerry working with our school community during Term 4, 2020 and for the 2021 school year. For personal reasons Kerry has resigned from her position from November 17. We are grateful for the work she has done to support staff, student and family welfare at our school. She has performed her role with a calmness, care and enthusiasm that has encouraged positive engagement with all community members. She has left a lasting legacy in the cooperative student project that created an amazing mosaic seascape on the wall of the sandpit which engages students in imaginative play and enhances the environment of our school grounds. The students will miss her sensitive approach to assisting them when they were having social or emotional difficulties. Activities such as colouring, craft, games and knitting in the quiet area supported students who needed down time during recess and lunchtimes. Cooking activities with groups including, “Baked with Love” sessions for the Year 6 girls taught life skills and supported student engagement. Kerry was very proactive in her support of parents and carers finding ways to support them with food parcels, loads of firewood and connections with services and community organisations. The regular catch ups with families, particularly during the difficulties of the Covid 19 lockdowns was greatly appreciated. The connections she made have assisted many families during a time of stress and uncertainty and has helped to promote Flowerdale Primary School as a caring community hub. Kerry organised regular breakfast and lunch clubs, provided delicious desserts for Yea Rotary dinners and cooked amazing pasta dishes for our school sleepover. She even made her first pretzels with students for German Day last year. Nothing was too much to ask of this talented lady. One of our golden ticket rewards as part of our School Wide Positive Behaviour Strategy was to have lunch with Kerry. This was a most coveted reward by for many students. I greatly appreciated her conversations and insightful reflections on the needs of our school community. I know her role as chaplain of our school has been a rewarding experience and a time she will treasure. We wish her all the best with her future endeavours. She will be greatly missed. A new Chaplain will be employed to commence in by the start of 2022. -Sandra Horwood
