Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Psalm 37: KJV God’s never ending grace be with all of the members of Zion and their families on this month of giving thanks. The month of October has been one we can all be grateful for. The apple and pumpkin socials were a great success as well as the “tricky tray” raffle. Yesterday was our annual Trunk or Treat, which brought nearly 200 children enjoying Halloween costumes, decorations and candy in a very safe and well-lit environment. Please look for the pictures on our website they are wonderful. Many thanks to all who decorated their cars and gave out candy to the children. We even had “Bigfoot” in attendance. Look for a photo op of your pastor and the hairy creature on our website!! Psalm 37 begs the question…what are the desires of our hearts as a congregation?? I can tell you that our outreach committee is one of the very best I have ever witnessed!! Zion is known in the community for its many outreach offerings. WE do have much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving here at Zion. We now have a diaper distribution program called the “Diaper Depot” that we have available to people within the Tamaqua school district. We can delight in the Lord, because we continue to reach out and serve God’s people. Our Sunday school is growing, we are receiving new members and most of the new members are involved in a ministry here. I have learned to ask people what ministry they would like to be involved in when they join Zion. This question assumes that this is an expectation we have of our new members. It is definitely and expectation that the pastor has for all of the members. We benefit from things that we put our energies into. We benefit in far greater ways than we might ever imagine. I pray for all of the members of Zion church daily. I take special time to do this going through all of the names on our roster. If all of the people we have on our roster would come to church, it would be a joy to behold. If you haven’t attended church in a while, Please come to Saturday night service at 5:30 or Sunday morning service at 9:00 to reacquaint yourself with Our Lord of abundant love. Ask the people that attend here regularly, what coming to church does for them. I am very thankful to be serving as Pastor here at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. I am thankful for all of you and your hard work for the Lord. Please come and get involved in the service of the Lord. God misses you!!! God’s richest blessings to you all, over this beautiful and colorful season.

Sincerely, Pastor Cindy

Have you heard change is good? Well your change can be good

and make a difference for Zion. I found an article how our change

(coins) can have an impact and help with funding for the Capital

Campaign. It is the small things we each can do that will make it

happen. It is as simple as taking a two liter soda bottle and fill it

with dimes that you get as change. Fill the bottle and you may be

surprised to find you have $ 700.00. Remember there is no growth

without change.

HOAGIE SALE

The Culinary Crew will be selling Italian Hoagies for $5.00 each. Must be Pre-Ordered Deadline is

Help wanted for Diaper Depot at Zion

Diaper Depot, a family ministry to provide diapers to families in need, is currently being developed

here at Zion. The program hopes to kick-off in October. We will provide diapers once a month—the third

Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Requests for diapers will be made online and by phone prior to the

distribution day. Each family also makes an appointment for distribution day. We will contact each family

making a request to verify appointment time and diaper information. The night before distribution day, a

team will assemble request packages and have them ready for each family as they arrive according to their

appointment time. We would like to have at least four people to work with this program. If you are not

currently serving with a Zion ministry, perhaps this is the one you have been waiting for. We are currently

working as a distribution partner of the Philadelphia Diaper Bank.

If you feel called to this ministry, please contact Pastor Cindy White (570-668-2180), Judy Brennan

(570-668-1197) or George Taylor (570-668-4451). You can also visit the church website at

www.ziontamaqua.com to become a team member.

online or with a credit or debit card. So we have decided to offer

this service as a convenience to you - you can stop writing checks or having to remember to bring cash

every Sunday. Simply log in to myEoffering and set up your offering. More information is found in the

Gathering Room or on the website www.ziontamaqua.com

Zion’s third annual Trunk or Treat

event for the community held

Sunday, October 28 was another

successful Outreach happening.

Nine cars decorated and loaded

with treats for the children lined

Mauch Chunk Street. Pastor Cindy

greeted approximately 200 children,

dressed in the currently most popular

themes.

A special surprise for all was the

appearance of Bigfoot, a very

imposing 8-foot creature who

entertained all and made sure traffic knew which direction to go.

Thanks go out to the participants: Ann Connely, Beth Marcavage, Melody and Dave

Gensure, Dillon Epler and friends, Abby

and Rich Pecha, Paul Fegley, Gail and

Bob Jones, Bonnie Painter, Trudy

Maue, Irene and Paul Pecha, and

George and Mary Ruth Taylor.

Thanks to Zion members who came

and supported the trunkers: Gerry

Ziegler, Sharon Haldeman, Marilyn

Leipold, Laura and Dennis Christman.

Thanks to all who donated candy or

brought their children for the fun.

All Saints Sunday 2018

The greatest hope we have, as people of God, is the hope of resurrection; the promise that the powers of death can and will not keep us from God's eternal embrace.

Since last "All Saints' Day" a number of Zion Church's family and friends have died and share with all the saints in that promise of salvation. On All Saints Sunday, November 4, 2018 we will remember each of them at the 9:00 am Liturgy. During the Liturgy a votive candle will be lit as each name is read. We are remembering the following:

Robert Nunemacher Jane A. Springer

James A. Valentine Margaret I. Stahler

McKayla A. Wall Lewis H. Erbe

Sharon M. Melesky John F. Haldeman

Fern M. Woodring Earl L. Klein

June E. Stapleton Lorene A. Hope

Other Zion family and friends

"For I am sure that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." The purpose of this brief commemoration is not to remind you of the sorrow nor add to the burden of grief. Instead, our purpose is to focus on the message of the Gospel:

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life."

Have a Blessed

Thanksgiving from the staff at Zion!
