Several months ago, one of the Elementary Sunday School teachers approached me with a wonderful, but seemingly impossible, idea. For weeks, she and I had been noticing an uptick in the amount of scripture our students were learning. Even difficult verses – verses like 2 Timothy 3:16 and Romans 10:9 and Isaiah 9:6 – were now easily retained in the hearts of our students. Numerous parents were approaching me with similar reports; kids throughout the FUMCSP Childrenʼs Ministry were memorizing verse after verse at alarming rates. It was as if the fourth floor water fountain had been spiked with Ginkgo biloba! We both knew the real reason behind the change, though. The answer was Jumpstart3: a surprisingly current band that chants Bible verses over throbbing club beats and uses repetition to plant their catchy anthems in listenersʼ subconsciouses. It really works, too! Even after my first brush with their music, I could already recite most of the lyrics. Kids, unsurprisingly, fare even better in this department; many of our newest and youngest students are already in command of an array of pivotal passages. But how could we ensure their continued progress while still maintaining a high level of interest and enthusiasm? How could we share this teaching tool with other childrenʼs ministries? How could we partner with this important band and support what God is doing through their work? Enter that awesome teacher and her wonderful idea: to bring Jumpstart3 to FUMC (from California) and invite other area churches to a FREE family concert! And so began a jarringly generous labor of love by a big-hearted volunteer and the team behind Service Fest. Not only have they prayed over and planned this event, but they have footed the bill too – just because they care about the spiritual growth of your children. How cool is that?! So I am asking you to attend. Please be there. Not only will your family/friends love it, but your presence will serve to encourage selfless and creative events in the future! The S.S.UPDATEBringing you up-to-the-minute Sunday School info!

This week, weʼre discovering: We kick off the month by taking a closer look at our memory verse for the month: 1 Thessalonians 5:18.

We want to help kids understand why God wants us to give thanks in all circumstances. We believe something will happen in the heart of a child when they learn to take a TIME OUT, think about this verse, and remember to show gratitude.

Our Bottom Line is: You always have something to be thankful for.

Take-Away Concept: No matter what our situation looks like, thereʼs always something to thank God for. There are many times when we donʼt want to give thanks, but our hope in Jesus and His love for us allows us to be thankful regardless of our circumstances.

Key Points: • God is at work in our lives even

though we may not understand.• Our response of gratitude shows that

we trust God in all circumstances

Thursdays 6:00-9:30pm

Key Verse: ”The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for all.” Mark 10:45

Theme: God loves you – and sometimes He shows us how much He loves us through others. How has the kindness and selflessness of others affected your life?

Ask a kid: What’s something you can be thankful for, even on bad days?

Ask a parent: Would you rather spend time with someone who is complaining or choosing an attitude of gratitude?
