Recipes Worth Sharing Cranberry, Apple, and Blue Cheese Salad with Cranberry-Apple Cider Dressing ============================================================= Yield: serves 2 to 4, recipe doubles, triples, etc. easily Salad Ingredients: 4 cups butter lettuce (romaine or your favorite blend of greens may be substituted) 1 cup honeycrisp apples, diced (1 medium apple; Fuji, Gala, Braeburn, may be substituted) 3/4 cup orange-flavored dried cranberries (regular dried cranberries may be substituted) 3/4 cup candied Fisher pecans (use this recipe to make the candied nuts; other candied nuts or your favorite nuts may be substituted) 3/4 cup blue cheese crumbles (gorgonzola or feta cheese may be substituted) Dressing Ingredients: 1/2 cup orange-flavored dried cranberries (regular dried cranberries may be substituted) 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar 2 to 4 tablespoons honey 2 to 4 tablespoons olive oil 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste 1/2 teaspoon pepper, or to taste Directions: Salad – To a large bowl, add the lettuce, and top with apples, cranberries, pecans, and cheese. All amounts are flexible, add more or less of each topping based on personal preferences. Set aside. Dressing -To the canister of a blender, add all ingredients, and blend on high power for about 30 seconds, or until combined. The cranberries won't break down completely and having some texture retained is okay. The amount of honey needed will vary based on how sweet or tart the cranberries are and on personal preference. I prefer less oil rather than more, but add to taste. Taste dressing and make any necessary flavor adjustments (more salt, pepper, etc.). Drizzle over salad and serve immediately. Extra dressing will keep airtight in the fridge for up to 1 week. Yvonne Detweiler

Thank you! Words cannot express the enormous feeling of gratitude for everyone at Zion. Your financial gifts to the Bean Bag Food Program for the September POM collection were outstanding. Your giving will keep the program running for over 2 months. On behalf of all the students and their families we say THANK YOU!

The first Bean Bags for the 2018-2019 school year were delivered on Thursday, October 4. There are currently 103 students participating and we anticipate that number will grow as the year goes on.

My Thankfulness Journal In November we plan ahead for Thanksgiving meals with family and friends. We plan menus, table décor and dust off the good china. One year my parents incorporated a Thanksgiving ritual into our holiday, which challenged us to take 3 kernels of candy corn and share one thing we were grateful for for every kernel, before we said our prayer and enjoyed a family meal.

Some years it was easy to find things I was grateful for, other years - true confession! I struggled to feel grateful.

As I think about the year in which we now live, I am grateful for God’s providence through sun and extreme rains. I am grateful for church family who pull together to help one another in times of need. I am grateful for the lively questions of our nursery school students as they learn about praising God together with voices, hands and even big musical instruments like our Fisk organ!

I hope you can find many things you are grateful for as you gather to celebrate Thanksgiving this month!

Table of Plenty Talk

Table of Plenty has enjoyed a surge in patrons lately and we are thankful that they are finding a place to enjoy a delicious meal and dynamic company. I am so grateful that our church represents a safe, nourishing place for them. There are many volunteer slots open for November and December. While our volunteers are enthusiastic and dedicated, there has been an unfortunate string of health issues making it difficult for several of them to attend. If you are interested in helping to carry on this vital ministry of the church and community, please contact Katie Musselman ([email protected]). Help is needed on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The time commitment is brief - volunteers arrive at 10am and leave right around noon. Tasks are simple and there are plenty of seasoned volunteers to help guide you through the job. If you are interested, I encourage you to sign up and give it a try! Just a few hours of your day can make a world of difference to those in need of food and fellowship!

Nursery School News The busy holidays are approaching and the students are buzzing with excitement. This year our four year old class and the Pre - K will be hosting a grandparent’s day. This will be a fun time to sing some songs and to share some special time with their grandparents.

While preparing for the Nursery School Feast and the Christmas programs, they will also be getting ready for the Annual Souderton Parade on Saturday, December 1. If you are able, we are asking for donations of Mini Candy Canes to hand out. They can be dropped off in the church office.

Thank you for supporting our school, so we can do such great things.
