love and forgiveness.

I know that many of our families are in the process of plan-

ning which Christmas Mass you will be celebrating this year.

Let me give you a couple thoughts that hopefully can influ-

ence your decision. By far the most popular is the 4:00 Mass

on Christmas Eve that is celebrated both in the church and the

MPR. This Mass is planned with children in mind and is at a

very popular time, but the crowds are overwhelming in both

places, and it is often very hard to find a place to sit, a place

to park, and an atmosphere to really pray and worship God. It

is beautiful, but if at all possible, I would sincerely encourage

you to consider coming to a different Mass where it is not so

overcrowded. The 8:00 Mass on Christmas Eve, the Midnight

Mass, preceded by Christmas caroling led by our beautiful

choir, as well as any of the Masses on Christmas Day are ex-

cellent choices to come and prayerfully celebrate the Lord’s

birth. I have noticed over the last few years that more have

been coming on Christmas Day and have commented on how

nice it is to actually celebrate Christmas on the day itself.

Masses are well attended on Christmas day but not over-

crowded. There is not a 5:00 evening Mass on Christmas day.

It may take a change in some of our routines, but may be an

easier and more meaningful way to celebrate this special day.

Whatever Mass you come to, and this certainly extends to all

our visitors, guests, and those “coming home”, we welcome

you and hope that all our faithful will show them great hospi-

tality both in church and in the parking lot. The experience of

coming to church on Christmas could have an effect for some

on coming back again before Easter. Think about what will

be best spiritually for your family and not just conveniently.

Christmas will be here before we know it.

I know that the holidays could be anything but joyful and

may be very difficult for people dealing with separation and

divorce in their lives. Our Lake/Geauga District Ministry to

the divorced and separated offers a special four week series

entitled, Holiday Helps for the Divorced and Separated,

which takes place at St. Noel’s and has already begun. There

are three more sessions on Tuesday evenings, December 13th,

and January 3rd and 10th at 7:00 pm. You need not attend all

the sessions. Do whatever can be helpful to you and invite

someone you know that could benefit from this. Call Karen

Jubeck (352-8282) for more information. This could be the

“bridge over troubled waters” for some people.

Have a joyous third week of Advent. Go out of your way to

bring joy to others, and you will find joy for yourself. Give

your best and the Lord will give you more. Peace and bless-

ings.

In God’s love,

My Sisters and Brothers,

REJOICE! This third Sunday of Advent we call “Gaudete

Sunday” (which means rejoice), and we light the rose colored

candle on our Advent wreath. As we continue to prepare and

to get closer to our celebration of the Lord’s birth, hopefully

our lives grow in joy and we are instruments in bringing joy

into the lives of others. In the Gospel today we once again

look to John the Baptist as our role model for doing what all

of us are called to do, and that is, prepare the way of the Lord.

He taught people to share what they have generously with

those who have so little, to be fair and just in all their dealings,

and to be satisfied with what we have. It is those who give so

much of themselves, their time, talent and treasure, who end

up feeling a sense of meaningfulness, fulfillment and joy.

Each of us can determine for ourselves how we will end up

feeling at the end of this Christmas season, and most im-

portantly, when our lives here on earth are finished. Will it all

end in the fullness of JOY? It will if we are true givers like

Jesus. There is so much JOY in true giving. REJOICE!

There should be so much JOY in the hearts of our people for

all the giving that you are doing this month. This weekend we

take the collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious.

These wonderful religious sisters, brothers and priests are typ-

ically people of such great joy, even in their elderly years and

sufferings, because they spent their lives giving themselves to

the Church and to us. It is only right that we should do our

best to try to help them with their eldercare needs. Thank you

for your great generosity. The amount of gifts that have been

pouring in for our Share-a-Christmas program has been

overwhelming. I am sure we could never measure or even

begin to know the amount of joy these gifts bring to those

who have so little. Thank you again. These are just two of the

ways you give so much. I pray that God will reward you with

overflowing joy. Could I be bold enough to ask you to consid-

er being extra generous to our parish this Christmas, especial-

ly since Christmas falls on a Sunday this year and each Sun-

day is a part of what we budget for the year. Our expenses are

up, but our collections are not. The Christmas collection can

really help us meet some of the pressing needs that we have to

maintain and operate our facilities and to do the work of the

Lord. God bless you.

This Monday, December 12th, we celebrate as a community

the Sacrament of Reconciliation at 7:00 pm in the church.

Sacraments are meant to be celebrated communally, and there

is always such great power and joy as we share in the gift of

God’s forgiveness, mercy and unconditional love. We will

have a large number of priests available to help us to cele-

brate, so it should go rather quickly. Please take advantage of

this opportunity as you continue to prepare the way of the

Lord during this Advent time. There are just a couple more

times before Christmas, but please don’t wait until the last

minute when there will be just the three of us priests. Now is

the time. Let us come together and find true JOY in God’s

Helping the dog – Charlie W.

The budget detail is expanded to clarify the major com-

ponents of our Parish budget.

o Personnel costs (salaries, taxes, benefits) for staff/

custodial is 67% of the budget.

o Remainder of budget goes to facilities (upkeep and

utilities) and formation programs

o One of the parish missions is to have a strong Catho-

lic grade school. The Tuition Financial Aid budget helps

us to continue this mission.

o Capital budget is for major expenditures i.e. replac-

ing aging HVAC units, school interior projects not cov-

ered by tuition, etc. Some of these can be planned and

timed according to funds availability, however, some-

times a HVAC unit will go down and it will cost thou-

sands of dollars to repair or replace it.

o The parish experiences tremendous generosity from

our faithful parishioners, which enables the parish to

continue to move forward with our mission to bring the

light of Christ to all. The entire parish is very grateful for

this generosity.

o We trust that God will give us the plans and blue-

prints to continue His work in a fiscally sound manner.

Finance Council will be reviewing the budget and

prayerfully making the appropriate adjustments as

deemed necessary. We ask for your continued support,

humbly ask, if at all possible, increase your contribu-

tion, and more importantly we ask for your prayers. If

we all do a little more, it can make a BIG difference!

May God bless you for your generosity.

What if God called you every day... and you

could actually speak to Him? Advent is a wonderful time

for reconnecting with God!

What if this Advent was the best Advent ever?

With the Examen it will become a time where you can

share your day with God and take time for gratitude. You

can personally ask God for his help in any given situa-

tion.

Let Him give you direction and help you to choose the

best path for your day.

Experience His forgiveness and love for anything that

you may have done wrong and make a resolution for the

rest of your day.

How different would your life be if you did this every

day? How different would your Advent be?

ALWAYS CONNECTED TO GOD IN ALL WAYS

The Hope Chest … The Hope Chest will be closed for the Holidays from December 21, 2016-January 2, 2017. We will re-open on Jan 3, 2017. Our immediate needs will be blankets/comforters/sheets, towels, warm clothing in all sizes, adult gloves, and small housewares/appliances. Hope Chest’s hours are 9am-1pm Mon-Thursday, and our address is One Victoria Place, Rm 321, Painesville, OH 44077. Checks may be sent to this address any time.

We have a packing request for donations. Please use “tall kitchen-size bags” and “computer paper-size boxes” rather than large black “leaf-size bags”. Remember, many of our volunteers are retirees; if the bag is heavy for you, it's prob-ably too heavy for many volunteers. The suggested bags and boxes are more convenient for our volunteers to handle, and they fit inside the Hope Chest bin on the loading dock (on South St. Clair St.) Don’t leave anything outside that bin; if the bag gets wet it gets tossed.

ADVENT COMMUNAL PENANCE Celebrating the sacraments defines who we are as

Catholic Christians. Through our Baptism, we are

invited to partake in the sacramental life of the

Church, especially through the celebration of the

Eucharist. In addition to the Eucharist, we have a

powerful aide to our spiritual life in celebrating the

Sacrament of Reconciliation. The sacrament,

through the ministry of the priest, is an encounter

with the loving, merciful and forgiving Savior, Jesus

Christ. Through His cross, our sins have been for-

given. The Church offers us this sacrament, that hav-

ing acknowledged our sinfulness, we come together

as a community to celebrate the mystery of the love

of Jesus Christ. The Season of Advent is a time of

joyful expectation, a time to prepare our hearts for

the celebration of the Incarnation. We offer an

Advent Communal Reconciliation Celebration this

Monday, December 12th at 7:00pm. The setting in

the Church is very peaceful and we have many

priests available to celebrate God’s mercy and love

with you. If you have been away from this sacra-

ment for a while, now is the time to come experience

the graces you can receive from the Lord. Come,

joyfully celebrate unconditional love and for-

giveness of the One who shed His blood on the cross

for our sins. Come, deepen that relationship with

Jesus and experience deep joy and peace.

The Third Sunday of Advent - when the presider wears

rose-colored vestments - marks the halfway point of this

time of preparation. The readings continue to call to

mind Jesus' herald, John the Baptist. John sends his dis-

ciples to Jesus to ask if he is the Messiah. Jesus simply

tells them to report all they have seen - the blind see, the

deaf hear, the lame walk. The Lord is coming. Be ready.

Be patient. "Patience people, til the Lord is come." From
