CROSSFIT MONCTON November 2014 As fun and addictive as CrossFit is, we all run into slumps from time to time. But what do you do about it? Quit? Abso-freaking-lutely not! Reinvigorate your CrossFit practice and get motivated again. Go. Just go. Get your butt to the gym, even if you’re just there to do the motions. Not every session will be mind-blowing amazing. But if you at least go, you’re likely to draw some strength and motivation during your workout. Even if you don’t get motivated during, you’re sure doing a lot more than staying home and sitting on the couch. Motivation enough. Shake your routine up! Are you doing your WODs on your own? If so, get to your nearest CrossFit gym for a workout instead. The energy and camaraderie of other CrossFitters can be infectious! Feed off their energy and meet your inner athlete again. Maybe you’re already at the gym? Take it outdoors then! The beauty of CrossFit is the flexibility. Take your WODs to the park, to the zoo, wherever! Just get moving and go somewhere different. Find a CrossFit buddy !With CrossFit’s ever-growing popularity, it’s not hard to find someone else who’s already doing it, or is interested in starting up. Put your salesman hat on and get them to buddy up with you! Having someone hold you accountable for just showing up is sometimes the kick in the pants that you’ll need. !!!

Take a break !Seriously ask yourself this question, are you burnt out? If the answer is a resounding yes, then take a break. You need it. Let your mind, body, and spirit recharge. Sometimes, you just need to refocus and it’s ok. But this is NOT a cop-out for being lazy! !Directions:

Add oil to a pan on medium heat and then sauté onions and garlic.

After a few minutes, add the ground beef and brown the meat.

In a crockpot, add all of the ingredients, including the beef mixture.

Set it on low and cook on low for 4-5 hours.

Serve with crumbled bacon on top.

HABANERO CHILI

• 2 cans Organic Diced Tomatoes

• 1 tbs Chili Powder

• 2 tsp Oregano

• 1 ½ tsp Cumin Powder

• 1 tsp Fine Sea Salt, adjust to taste

• 1 tsp Paprika

• bacon, crumbled

Ingredients:

• 1 lb ground beef

• 1 tbs olive oil

• 1 onion, chopped

• 4-5 cloves of garlic, minced (used my garlic press)

• 1 bell pepper, chopped

• 5 medium carrots, chopped

• 3 stalks celery, chopped

• 1-2 habaneros, chopped (caution: Habaneros are HOT!)

When did you join CFM? Had you been involved in other gyms or fitness programs before? !I joined in April 2011, I had been a member at the Y for a few months back in 2005 (?..) but wasn't getting anywhere. Besides that I had a weight bench and a few free weights in my basement, I only really began being consistent after my 2nd son was born in 2009, I was looking to lose some baby weight and get into shape. !Do you have an athletic background? !Not really, I never played on any sports teams in school. I did gym class, that’s about it, and I noticed I was pretty good at it, strong for my size. My mom was a gym owner, so I was exposed to a healthy lifestyle at an early age. !What made you decide to join CFM?

I joined in April 2011, this sounds cliche but I had a dream that I had joined CrossFit after seeing all these posts and videos on Facebook and I had a few friends who were members, you may know them (Amanda and Patrick.) I approached Amanda at work the following day "So, tell me about CrossFit?”...well you can guess what happened next.

I did the drop-in a few weeks later and I remember the feeling right after - I

was hooked! I still love that post-WOD feeling; it hasn't changed over the years!

Do you remember your first workout?

Yes it was 4min of rowing for calories followed by 3 min of thrusters! Gross! My first Fran cough.

W h a t a r e y o u r f i t n e s s o r s k i l l goals? Have you accomplished any of them? !I had a few recently I reached, a 200lb deadlift and a 95# OHS, and to get my Level 1 which I did last summer and becoming a trainer at our gym. I'm still working on mastering DUs.

Describe the atmosphere at CFM. !Motivating, family, it's my 2nd home! !Give us a few words of advice for someone in their first month of CrossFit.

Don't be shy, ask questions, and remember we were all new at one time. Give it your best each day and the rest will follow.

What would you tell someone who is hesitant to try CrossFit?

Forget what you've heard, try it for yourself, you've got nothing to lose!

What is your best/worst WOD memory?

Wow! Worst WOD memory was the CrossFit Games Open WOD 13.3 I think? It was 150 wall balls followed by DUs (I'm very happy Kevin makes us do wall balls at 10 feet!).

Best WOD memory was my first Atlantic Hopper in 2011.

What is your favourite lift? Favourite WOD (or type of WOD)?

OHS is my favourite lift. Favourite WODs are couplets, usually with burpees.

Any other comments?

I really believe we have the best gym with the best people!
