Dear Parents/Carers Year 11 have finished their mock examinations and we are all now waiting until ‘Mock Results’ Day’ on 4 th December to see how they got on! The students are to be congratulated on the way they conducted themselves throughout the examination period, clearly taking the occasion very seriously and behaving in a mature manner. Maria Miller MP came into school this week, with a representative from Sport England, to look at ways they can support us in funding a much needed new roof for the swimming pool. It is certainly going to be a challenge to achieve this but we remain optimistic that we will find a satisfactory solution to the problems presented. The theme of our Inset day on Friday 14 th November is “Excellence and Challenge for All”. It provides an invaluable opportunity for us to work with our primary colleagues on how we provide this for all students in our schools, ensuring the best possible transition process. Working together has allowed us to put on a variety of workshops, looking at developing excellence and challenge in a number of different areas such as Writing, Literature, Art, RE, Computing Science and many more! We hope that by sharing our expertise all staff will be able to leave with some practical ideas to use in their classroom. This Remembrance Sunday was particularly poignant, for it is the 100th Anniversary of the start of World War I. We remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today. We pause to reflect on the sacrifices made by our brave service men and women. Please consider those who have gone before us, for all who have died in conflict and hope for peace and justice in our world. For our tomorrow, they gave their today. Given that some students have had to endure three examinations in one day I have yet to hear anybody complain. This demonstrates great maturity and a responsible attitude to learning. Year 11’s Progress Manager, Mrs Absalom, has expressed her delight regarding the students’ attitude as follows: “I’ve been really impressed with the maturity and positive attitude shown by my year group – well done!”. By the time you read this the examinations will be over and students will be keenly awaiting mock results day which will take place in early December. I look forward to sharing the experience of mock results with the students; hopefully it will be a positive experience that will identify areas to strengthen before the real examinations this summer. HAMPSHIRE COUNTY CUP The U14 Girls football team had a Hampshire County Cup game on Wednesday 21st

October against All Hallows school. With 12 players (including three Year 7 girls) and good

effort shown at training, the girls were nervous but extremely excited to get going. With a

few absences (including the GK), some of the girls played out of position which All Hallows

took advantage of and took an early lead in the game. CBEC had some good possession

which led to a few good goal scoring opportunities but we didn’t manage to find the back of

the net. A quick turnaround led to a couple of goals conceded which led to All Hallows

extending their lead. The girls fought extremely hard throughout the game and their effort

was fantastic but unfortunately we couldn’t overcome an experienced All Hallows team.

Well done to Libby, Poi, Chloe, Caitlin, Rebecca, Wassila, Sema, Adrianna, Kristine, Paige,

Lilly-Mae and Grace.

TRY SOMETHING NEW WEEK Monday 10th November started this term’s Try Something New Week, the first of three this

year. This term’s theme was related to feedback, the teachers using it and students

responding to it. Teachers continuously use feedback to gauge students’ understanding

and to plan for future lessons. We are busy using the green and purple pens but also

wanted to have the opportunity to use different feedback strategies and find out what the

students thought about them and if it helped with their learning. Students are currently

being asked for their feedback about the week, so look out for their comments in the next

edition of CCU!

Science club is now well underway and so far students

have been looking at fireworks and DNA. Everyone

involved seems to be very excited and well engaged in

the science behind the activities.

A fun club for all - students and staff alike!
