Allan Community Newsletter Allan, Bradwell, Elstow and Zelma Communities November 1, 2016 Issue 114, Volume 1 Hello to you all, WOW! What a busy month October was. Lots to be Thankful for. It started off fast & furious for me with the rest of our programs getting underway; taekwondo, mini moves and gymnastics. There was the appreciation BBQ for the museum volunteers, and a quick kitchen spruce up at the Communiplex; just in time for two weddings and a fall supper. I hope many of you were able to make it out to our annual fall supper and take in the festivities. It s been quite a treat, hosting Rawlco Radio, the past couple of years. We must be doing a good job as they keep coming back. Well done fall supper committee! With the Communiplex kitchen spruce up and the hard work from the rest of our Communiplex committee, the ice will soon be ready to hit. The Communiplex calendar is already filling up with lots of tournaments and events so keep your eye on the Facebook page for opportunities to take in the Senior Allan Flames games or enter a team into a bonspiel. A reminder that we are always looking for volunteers to work in the rink kitchen. It might not initially sound that fun, but I promise once youre there the time flies, the energy in the building is palpable and at the end of the day your act of service is meaningful and SOOOOO appreciated. So if you think youd be up to add your name to a volunteer list please give me a call (306-257-7799), stop by (Town Office 94:30pm) or e-mail me ([email protected]). The more volunteers we have, the more people from our community youll get to meet, and the more feedback I can get to keep improving one of our major recreation facilities in town. So sign up and help me out, enjoy your November! Each time a person works a 4 hour shift in the rink kitchen this year, they will have their names entered into a draw (prize yet to be determined)!! Allan Community Heritage Society & Museum

The weather for our October 5th Volunteer Apprecia-tion BBQ was definitely not co-operative but thank you

to the 52 people who braved the snow and came to enjoy the hamburg-ers and fellowship. Thank you again to everyone who helped with the museum, our fundraising and all of our programming including the Chil-dren's Hour at the Museum and Culture Day in 2016.

Congratulations to Bev Sommerfeld the winner of the wooden toy box. Thank you to everyone that purchased tickets and a special thank you to Mitch and Ashley Carrobourg for making and donating the toy box. Congratulations to our 2016 Scavenger Hunt winners Ava Hol-torf and Jessica Swenson. We received 58 entries in the under 12 cat-egory and 31 entries in the over 12 category for a total of 89 entries this year. Wow!

The Collections Committee is again busy packing up the museum for the 2016 season. We have been waiting for the snow to melt and warmer weather and will be returning all of your loaned items in the next week. Thank you to everyone that loaned and/or donated items to the museum this year. The museum hosted 706 visitors this summer. Thanks every-one for your support.

The Museum Board wishes to thank again the 53 volunteers who helped make the Allan 2016 Culture Day such a success. The total number of guests signing the book was 372. We had the Saskatchwander Neil Fisher attend, Access Communication was videotaping our event and Dean Kush from SaskCulture attended. (Some of you may have seen our Culture Day video promotion which we won from SaskCulture this year.) Thank you to the Allan School teachers and students for their enthusi-asm about our event. This year the students made 75 hankie dolls for charity. Good for you! The children that will receive them will treasure those little dolls. If you have ideas for hands-on activities you would like to suggest for next year's Culture Day please contact Clara (257-3634) or Shirley (257-3511).

Our next monthly Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 29th at 7:00pm in the Council Chambers. It will be followed by the AGM at 8:00pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. We appreciate your feed-back and your support. Without our volunteers the Town of Allan could not have a museum. The Museum Board knows we can count on you for next year to not only be our ambassadors but also to assist us with our museum displays and the programming we do. Thank you everyone for being there with us these past eleven years.
