The Ashes By Michael Pinchbeck

Friday 2 – Saturday 17 September Tickets: £7.50 – £26.50. Bargain Seats and Previews £10. Groups (10+) £16. Matinees £7.50 – £12

“Vote for change!” Sick of the two established parties, one man promises a third option: to champion the people and remake politics.Ibsen’s political farce has long been praised for its sparkling wit and cynical humour. But The League of Youth is uncanny in the mirror it holds up to present-day Britain, where every promise leads to compromise in the rush to snatch a share of the power. A brand new adaptation by Andy Barrett (Garage Band, The Day That Kevin Came) finds fresh satire in this rarely-seen comic gem. Cast includes: Sam Callis, Phillip Betherton, Robin Kingsland, Mark Jardine, David Acton and Chris NayakDirector: Giles Croft Designer: Dawn Allsopp Lighting Designer: Alexandra Stafford Composer/Sound Designer: Matthew Bugg

In 1930s Chicago local crime boss Arturo Ui has the town in his hands. With a winning smile, a machine gun and an army of hoods he offers protection – but it comes at a very high price. Brecht’s farce about the rise of a fascist dictator has all too many modern parallels. Originally written in 1941, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui is a highly satirical, no-holds-barred allegory of the rise of Hitler in Nazi Germany.Director: Walter Meierjohann
