Our Parish Vision Notre Dame of Mount Carmel is a Roman Catholic

community of faith called to be missionary disciples of Jesus Christ, for the purpose of bringing about the

Kingdom.

Our Parish Mission Formed by the Word, fed at the Table, and inspired by the Holy Spirit, we INVITE, WELCOME and GUIDE each

other into relationship with Christ, to GO OUT and MAKE missionary disciples.

BELIEVING IN JESUS CHRIST

Throughout the Easter season, all three of the Sunday readings are taken from the New Testament‐‐the Chris an scriptures. Together they explore what it means to believe in Jesus as the Christ, the One who fulfilled the prophecies of the Jewish scriptures.

Today's selec ons refer to our human weakness, yet they emphasize the forgiveness and peace that are available to those who put their faith in "Jesus Christ the righteous one" (1 John 2:2). In the Acts of the Apostles Peter invites everyone to "repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be wiped away" (Acts 3:19). The First Le er of John calls Jesus Christ "expia on for our sins" (1 John 2:2). Finally, in the Gospel Jesus greets the disciples with "Peace" and urges them to preach "repentance, for the forgiveness of sins" (Luke 24:47).

Prayer for Parish Renewal

God of love,

source of mercy and compassion, weave your dream for

Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel into the fabric of our lives.

Give us a renewed commitment to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, our Savior,

to our families, our neighbors, and those on the margins of life.

Help us to be you, Jesus, in welcoming and caring for all.

Holy Spirit, surround us with your love, fill us with your grace,

and strengthen us for service in Jesus’ name.

Make us your missionary disciples!

We ask this through the intercession of Mary, our Mother and Patroness.

Amen.

O ur parish family (and even some outside our walls) were blessed this Lenten season by a five‐week journey of bereavement support, guided by parishioners Lu Ann Dolan and Grant Salmon.  Gatherings included socializing, viewing a video segment from the series, “Grieving with Great Hope,” and sharing insights and personal experience related to various topics concerning the loss of a loved one.

No feedback is more important than personal tes monial, so here we share some of the comments offered by both par cipants and facilitators:

“I was thankful and humbled to have had the chance to meet everyone and journey with them for 5 weeks. The experience

did much for me personally.”

“What I valued most were the friendly people, the caring comments and the openness of everyone in the group.”

“The sharing on the part of the facilitators and participants was what I found most

valuable and helpful.”

“Thank you so much for this. The journey was very helpful in my healing process.”

“The honesty, openness and spirituality of this experience meant the most to me.”

“I thought this experience was excellent. Loss and love go hand-in-hand.”

“I loved this experience. The facilitators were very inspiring

and did an excellent job”

“Journeying through this series, I learned a great deal from everyone. It also made me

realize that it is a process and there is definitely no time line

to it.”

Facilitator Grant Salmon was so moved by the experience that he wrote a beau ful

poem (below), “A New Day For Us, Of Light,” and dedicated it to his deceased son, Bre , and to the group with whom he journeyed.

BEREAVEMENT: GRIEVING WITH GREAT HOPE

Missionary Discipleship...

Deep night, driving lights,

A moon sliver, low, Occupies a heart sunk space--

I still hate you had to go.

For all I am and all before And all I'd give to you;

To see a flash, a rising dawn, Your sun kissed face anew.

I held you in my arms but once-- Some discount emblazoned souls

Whose radios blast heart beat hertz For those they cannot hold.

But I know true as life is short Our frequencies collide

With songs that play from angel strings,

Hymnals we sing, we cry.

Sometimes at night, before the dawn, When the light of heart find rest, I'll think of you and contemplate

How I've become so blessed:

(On my knees, full moon now high, Silent tears of joy)

As I mourn my baby boy?

Of day and day and night and night Time never seems to cease,

This lonely march of faith goes on Until we meet again in peace.

And when that day becomes this day And soul embarks in flight,

The darkness fades, trumpets play, A new day for us, of Light.

Someone you know could be experiencing a mental illness or crisis. You can help them!

Our Parish Nurses invite you to attend a MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING

Offered by the Mental Health Association of Essex and Morris SATURDAY, APRIL 28, 2018, 8 AM – 4 PM

Here at Notre Dame in Room 201

You are more likely to encounter someone — friend, family member, coworker, neighbor, or member of the community — in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack. Mental Health First Aid teaches a 5-step action plan to offer initial help to

people with the signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social, or self-help care.

Anyone can take the First Aid course — first responders, students, teachers, leaders of

faith communities, human resources professionals, and caring citizens.

Cost: $35 (includes workshop and materials) – please make check payable to MHAEM.
