An artist knows theyve entered the ranks of superstardom when theyre recognized only by their first

name. Our humble valley hosts such an entity. Speakthe word Fenton and its doubtful theres a person in the

United States who doesnt recognize the moniker.

In the quiet, sleepy town of Williamstown, Fenton grewfrom a small, family-owned business to a worldwide

powerhouse in the art glass arena. Today, Fenton is

collected, hoarded and prized by many.

Norwood Antique Mall is proud to announce ourMarch 2013 Vendor of the Month. We like to call himour Fenton Guy. His shop is located beside the check-

out counter. It is filled with every color and design of

Fenton imaginablecranberry, ruby, milk glass, emerald green, amber and many more. Youll find

everything from slippers to lamps and candlesticks torose bowls. Any Fenton collector will swoon when

they see the gorgeous illuminated cases filled withglassware.

Stop by soon to check out this fabulous collection of

    glassware.

Store your porcelain out of direct

sunlight in a display case or dust-free

    cabinet

Use a hair dryer on its coolest setting or

canned air to dust each piece.

If excessively dusty use a clean, soft

    paintbrush or lint-free cloth.

Immerse only fully glazed pieces in adeep sink filled with warm, soapy water.

Be sure to line the sink with a towel

before placing the piece into the water.

soap is gone and dry with a lint-free

    cloth.

The Ides of March beckon St. Patricks Day and its fanciful Wearin O tGreen. One of our favorite holidays lends an ear to Ireland and its time

honored traditions of excellence in workmanship. One product fromIreland is Belleek porcelain. Belleek porcelain is extremely light andeggshell thin therefore quite fragile. Many pieces have not survived ov

    the years.

The hard parianware of Belleek became very well known due to itssurface which displayed an iridescence likeness to mother of pearl. ThBelleek Pottery Co. was established in Ireland in the late in 1857, by

    Robert William Armstrong.

Belleek porcelain is well collected, and can still be found today. Altho

it is becoming harder to find a real antique piece of Belleek, it is possibto locate perfect pieces. Some of the most sought after items are paint

medallions and freestanding figures of characters from Shakespeare'sMidsummer Night's Dream.

A word to the wisebe careful when buying pieces on-line, without thebenefit of seeing the actual piece. Unfortunately, Belleek is one of the m

popular counterfeited porcelains. It is also wise to know your dealers,or off line. Happy collecting!

    Collecting Belleek Porcelain

    Hot Collectible Trends

Our friends at Antique Roadshow have

issued the forecast for collectible trends for2013. Some of the items theyre listing are:

    Asian Art meaning specifically vintage

Chinese art. Let me say there are lesserquality pieces in abundance here in the

states. I would encourage you to freshen upon what makes a quality piece versus the

    mass produced items.

Fine Art beauty is in the eye of the beholder

when it comes to art. Thank goodnesstheres a wide variety from which to choose.

Precious Metals & Jewels this category caninclude an elegant sterling necklace or a

copper doubloona stunning diamondbrooch or a modern lapis lazuli pendant.

Watches the Roadshow feels this trend isspecifically geared to men, but I think we

ladies enjoy a fine timepiece as well.

Quality Items these items can be defined asclassic pieces that have stood the test of time. These might include a handmade antique

quilt, a fine cherry secretary, grandmothers

silver service and Aunt Margarets bonechina.

Militaria as with any specialized avenue of

interest, military collectors are very specificin what they want. Also, note theyre willing

to pay the going price for it, too.

I believe these trends encourage the

educated collector to select items that are ofquality craftsmanship. Timeless and classic

pieces are always in style. Youll be happy toknow both Norwood and Nostalgia offer

many of the items listed above. Stop by to

    see us soon.

If you are interested in becoming a vendor at Norwood Antique Mall or Nostalgia, please let us know.

We, occasionally, have available shops. Monthly rental pricing depends upon the size of the shop.
