NRVVCC ANNUAL RALLY August 2017
Friday – 18th The afternoon tea at the home of Meryl & Robert Lovell was very enjoyable except for the wind which kept
us under shelter for most of the afternoon. Unfortunately we have no control over the weather. Robert had the
doors open to display their vehicles which included the 1907 Di Dion, his recently beautifully restored 1920’s
Vauxhaul, the 1922 Fiat Roadster and 1970 Mini Cooper S. Also on display were the nicely restored motor
cycles and custom built caravan which can be converted from living quarters to transporting vehicles in a
matter of minutes. Meryl also conducted a tour of their beautiful home which was also designed by Robert &
Meryl. Also enjoyed by the visitors was a display of tassel’s beading and embroidery by Joy Mitchell. The
afternoon tea was delightful and a big Thank you to members who provided the great array of niceties which
included those created by Meryl.
Friday Night – A welcoming dinner for the visitors was held at the Lismore Workers
Club.
Saturday –19th
– An early start for the day was to display our vehicles at the Farmer’s Markets held at the
Lismore showground. After receiving our run sheets we made our way to Wollongbar and onto Sneath’s road,
past Tintenbar and on toward Byron Bay. We then, after being breathalysed by a very polite Police Officer,
continued on to Lennox Head. After a brief stopover at Lake Ainsworth, we continued on to Ballina then
back along the highway to the Alstonville showground for lunch. The sixty two vintage cars lined up on the
showground were quite spectacular and attracted quite a lot of attention from the public while we were
having lunch. After lunch we made our way to our respective abodes to rest up in preparation for the dinner
dance that night.
Saturday Night – It was our fault. We didn’t read the theme for the western style dress. I arrived in my
dinner jacket and stood out like a thistle in a bed of carnations, or vice versa. Nancy came out wearing a
poncho style wrap and I told her she looked like Clint Eastwood, and as it turned out, would have looked
quite appropriate. Throughout the night I saw a few hillbilly sodbusters breasting up at the bar chewing the
fat over a few drinks and others boot scootin’ and hoofin’ it out on the dance floor to a few old long forgotten
tunes. Then the guy controlling the chuck wagon gave us the “come & get it” sign and I must say that the
‘grub’ was delightful Throughout the night there were winners of the lucky spots on the dance floor but
they dodged around us “dog gone it” However I’m sure that everyone would have enjoyed the night
immensely. It was getting late so we ‘hi-tailed it’ out of there to wrap up in our blankets and rest up ready for
tomorrows drive.
SUNDAY –20TH
– We assembled in the South Lismore Bowling Club at around 9am and after receiving our
run sheets headed off in the direction of Bentley. We then turned onto the Manifold Road and made our way
through the country side to Casino. After driving down the main street we turned into the Coraki /Woodburn
road and arriving at Coraki in the Memorial park by the river for morning tea. After morning tea we made our
way back to Lismore driving up High St. to the Lismore Heights Bowling Club for lunch. Once again the
lunch was enjoyable during which the Johnston Bros. handed out prizes for the various vehicle categories and
the winners of raffles. After lunch Allan Johnston thanked the visiting clubs for coming and hoped to see
them again next year. Some of the visitors thanked us for a very enjoyable weekend and looked forward to
doing it all again next year.
We express our appreciation to our Activities Director, the Events Committee and club members who
helped in making the 2017 Annual Rally the success that it was.

COUNTRY FAIR Tintenbar School
We arrived at the school grounds to find that seven of our members were already lined up on
display on a mostly concreted area. The day was mostly cloud covered with a mild
temperature which made ideal conditions for our members as well as for the event which was
well represented by the public. There was a wide variety of stalls which seemed to have
something for everyone attracting the attention of our club members as well as the public.
The school staff members were well prepared for us and had laminated ‘DON’T TOUCH’ signs
made for our vehicles and also tickets for a free lunch. We remained there for some time after
lunch and then called it a day.

60th Wedding Anniversary
On Saturday the 5th August club members Kath & Norm Clapham celebrated their
60th Wedding Anniversary. We arrived to find the back yard of their home attended by
family, friends and car club members to wish them well and continued happiness for
the future. A great array of cake’s, slices & sandwiches assured that no one went
hungry on the day. After the cutting of the cake the anniversary cards were read
which included cards from the Premier of NSW and a card from Queen Elizabeth,
which was signed Elizabeth.
During the afternoon Terry Wells entertained us with his assortment of country
music.
Best Wishes to Kath & Norm and we wish you both continued Happiness &Good
Times for the future.

Passing of Patricia Studdy Clift
Patricia was the wife of Jim Clift, mother & Mother in law of Dave & Rhonda Clift. Pat lived a very full life who loved her music, water skiing and writer of books. Her interest was mainly the history of the period and didn’t want that history to be lost over time. Patricia obtained a lot of this history by talking to people who could remember events from their youth. Pat commented that one of her books “The Lady Bushranger” may be made into a movie one day but probably not in her time.”

TH BIRTHDAY PARTY
His shed came alive with a BIG surprise
Bob sauntered out after showering in his home away from home that we all know as
Bob’s Shed and he was genuinely surprised to find a huge contingent of NRVVCC club
members gathered around to join him in celebrating his 80th
birthday. It was a bit of a
trial trying to keep everyone quiet and at the same time preparing a table with enough
cakes and slices to satisfy a small army. Rob Lovell wished Bob best wishes on his
special day on behalf of the club and Bob reciprocated and spoke of his younger days
and some of the antics that young people engaged in, in those times. Bob said that his
father commented that he would be surprised if he lived to be twenty one. However,
there he was, hail & hearty, and still looking half his age.
Best Wishes for your 80th

The Intelligence Test
One day an Irishman’s son came home and said. ‘Dad I went and applied for a job today.’
‘Good son, did you get it? No I have to have an IQ test Dad, so what’s an IQ test?’
His father replied, ‘It is a test of intelligence. If you get 1000 you’re a genius, if you get 500
You’re average and if you get 30, you couldn’t even tie your own shoelaces.’
‘Is that why Australians wear Thongs?’ asked the son.
