The Aim of the Training Programme
Our Target
• We want to help 20 people through the programme by April 2012
To help people with Disabilities understand:-• The many ways of living and how to access them• Housing rules & responsibilities• Housing, support & care costs and find help• The importance of making friends & connecting
with the community• Feel able to let others know when your not happy• Understand the skills needed to live happily &
safely

Session Areas:-1. Introduction & the many ways of living2. Housing rules, responsibilities & applying for a

Some Rules for the Programme1. You need to try to come to all the sessions
2. If you are under 18 you need to bring a family member or supporter with you
3. If you live with your family you need to bring a family member with you
4. If you need a support worker to help you please bring them with you

• Introduction to each other & the Housing Training programme
• Explore the many ways of living• Hear people’s stories of ways of living• Talk about what’s available here & now• Think about creating our own solutions• Think about trying things out
Housing rules, responsibilities & applying for a home
SESSION 2 – 4th Oct 2011
Session 2 – will cover….
• Tenancy types & rules• Ways of buying a home & rules• Responsibilities of landlords & tenants• Responsibilities of home owners• Who can help us find a home?• How to apply for a home to rent• Understanding Choice based lettings• Finding a private home (buy or rent)• Applying for other sorts of home
Understanding Our Needs
• Housing needs & desires,
• Care / support needs and desires
SESSION 3 – 18th Oct 2011
Session 3 – will cover….
• What are your housing needs & desires• What are your support and care needs • How to get help with care / support
• Building a big picture of housing need• how to work with Council’s & housing
providers to make housing we want
The Cost of housing & and help available
•Help with paying the rent
•Help with paying the mortgage
•Help to claim housing benefit
SESSION 4 – 1st Nov 2011
Session 4 – will cover….• The cost of various sorts of housing• Getting help to pay for housing• Housing benefit & Local Housing Allowance
– How to apply
• Mortgage help• Help from families or trusts• Raising or accessing money – discretionary
trusts
The Cost of care / support & help available
•Self Directed Support &•Individual Budgets•Housing related support•Assisted technology
SESSION 5 – 15th Nov 2011
Session 5 – will cover….
• What care and support may cost• Getting help to pay for care or support
– Individual budgets & personalisation• Other ways of getting help with support or
care– Housing related support– Local support groups like ‘keyring networks’– How we can help each other– How timebanking can help
