A great way to love Kohala!

ANNUAL REPORT January 2015

Aloha,

This past year was record breaking for NKCRC. We raised over $385,000 in grants and donations for our sponsored projects. We couldn’t achieve these results without our donors and friends. YOU made it possible for us to keep the Center hum-ming with energy and success.

Your donations made it possible for• 27 local youth to attend a five day over-

night camp for free this past summer• The Coqui Coalition to keep Kohala Coqui-

free• Our KHS Seniors to celebrate their gradua-

tion in a safe, drug-free environment, and• Many more meaningful projects that touch

everyone across the community

Currently we sponsor 92 projects including two new broad based community efforts: North Kohala Radio and the Bond Library Restoration project. These projects are great examples of many volunteers coming together and working hard to make these efforts successful for all in North Kohala to enjoy and utilize.

We bid farewell to our 2014 president, Maile Lincoln, who stepped down due to the demands of her professional life. Our new President this year is Gino Amar, a founding Director. We are welcoming two new Directors, Chris Brown and Chizuko Westrum, to our Board – both bring a deep love for Kohala and a commitment to our mission. We thank all our Directors for their commitment to NKCRC, furthering our mission to in-crease the number of successful community improvement projects in North Kohala.

As I begin my second decade as Executive Director, I am continually amazed at the number of peo-ple who step up to make our com-munity a better place to live. It is indeed my honor to serve the com-munity of North Kohala and I look forward to another great year of work-ing with our dedi-cated project orga-nizers.

Volunteer Spotlight: Mike Eaton

Mike joined the team of Volunteer Welcome Center Guides in 2012 and we haven’t stopped laughing since. His wonderful sense of humor and true love of the history of Kohala brings a smile to every visitor he meets. Mike is the famed founder of Eaton Surfboards and every once in awhile an old salt that has paddled with him wanders into the Welcome Center and re-discovers an old friend. Always willing to fill in when we need coverage, we appreciate and love Mike dearly.
