‘AUBURN NORTH NEWS’ VOL. 2 TERM 1 2015 19th February, 2015

Dear Parents, During Term 4 last year our school learning community developed a ‘2015-2016 VISION/MISSION

STATEMENT.’ The purpose of our vision/mission statement is to clearly describe what our school learning community WILL BE and what it will LOOK LIKE by the end of next year and HOW we will

achieve our vision. The Statement is published below:

2015-2016

If our multi-award-winning school learning community continues to be a united, cohesive and harmonious dynamic learning community this year and in 2016, as I know it will, then by December 2016 we will

achieve our Vision/Mission. What an achievement that will be.

OUR 2015 SCHOOL SAYING

Each year our school develops a ‘SCHOOL SAYING’ that provides additional focus to that year’s teaching, learning and parenting. Our 2015 Saying is:

“In 2014 we did exceed.

Now the ‘6Cs’ are what we need.”

Our wonderful 2015 saying was developed from ideas suggested by Ranaa Rashtia in Year 5 and Ms Tavakol and is closely linked to our vision/mission statement.

Our saying states very clearly that if our students are going to succeed and exceed their full potential academically, socially, emotionally, physically, creatively and technologically this year then as well as

continuing to develop their basic skills they must also learn the ‘6Cs of 21st Century Learning.’ The ‘6Cs’ are:

1. Citizenship

2. Collaboration 3. Communication 4. Creativity and Imagination

5. Critical Thinking 6. Character Education

OUTSTANDING 2015 K- 6 TEACHERS

My most important role as the principal of Auburn North Public School has always been to work with our leaders to ensure that each one of our K-6 students is taught by an excellent teacher. I believe that

every year from 2000 to 2014 our students were taught by excellent teachers. However, I believe this year we have assembled the most outstanding TEAM of teachers I have seen in any primary school

or high school in the five countries in which I have taught.

Please find below the names of our 2015 classroom teachers and specialist support teachers who will be working with YOU to facilitate your children to exceed their potential in the basic skills and in the 6Cs:

EATING WELL by MRS MOODLEY

Eating well is an important skill to develop. When we eat healthy food we not only feed our bodies but we also nourish our minds. Healthy eating begins in our kitchens with our families. Great family time can

be spent together creating delicious food and starting good eating habits.

I have included a recipe for an ‘Oat Slice’ in our newsletter. It is a yummy school treat. For more inspirational, healthy, delicious recipes please visit our school website and click on the ‘ Caring for

students’ tab, then ‘Be Smart, Eat Smart.’ “Take care of your body it’s the only place you have to live.” Mrs Moodley

Deputy Principal’s Message

All Auburn North Public School students have made a fantastic start to their learning in 2015. This year

students will be acknowledged for their effort and dedication to their learning as well as their academic,

social, emotional, physical, creative and technological development and achievements. In addition to being

acknowledged by their teachers and peers within the classroom, students may also earn awards through

the following programs:

Gold Badge Program Principal’s Awards Tiered Award System

These programs are explained in detail below.

Gold Badge Program

The Gold Badge is our most special award. We would like 2015 to be the first year that all students at

Auburn North earn a Gold Badge, and all parents have the opportunity to be invited to a Gold Badge

assembly to proudly pin their child’s Gold Badge on their uniform. To be eligible for a Gold Badge,

students must achieve all of the following criteria

for 5 consecutive weeks:

Students have two opportunities each term to be

selected to receive a Gold Badge by their classroom

teacher, Community Language teacher, specialist

support teacher or a member of the executive

team. At the end of each term all students who

have received a Gold Badge will participate in a

special Gold Badge Reward at school. At the end of

the year, all students who have earned a Gold Badge

throughout the year will celebrate their

achievement on a very special excursion to Reading

Cinemas, where they will watch a new release

children’s movie!

I encourage all families to talk to one another about

the Gold Badge criteria at home to help students

further understand what they need to do to earn a

Gold Badge this year. If students are unsure about

what they need to do to earn a Gold Badge this

year, they are encouraged to ask their teachers as

soon as possible.

Principal’s Awards

Each week teachers nominate one student per class to receive a Principal’s

Award at a morning assembly. Students may be selected to receive a

Principal’s Award for their academic, social, emotional, physical, creative

and technological development and achievements.

Tiered Award System

The awards from our Tiered Award System can be achieved by earning commendations. Commendations

are earned when students demonstrate the school values.

Our school values are: Students collect commendations throughout

the year and earn the following tiered awards:

1. Respect

2. Honesty

3. Fairness

4. Friendship

5. Responsibility

6. Kindness

We are excited to announce that we are currently designing new commendations which will also

encompass 21st Century Learner Qualities. We anticipate these will be ready for use later this term.

We encourage all students to consider setting a goal which will assist them to achieve all of the

wonderful awards that our school offers. Students may find these steps helpful in assisting them to

achieve their goal:

1. Set a goal

2. Make a plan 3. Ask for help if you need it

4. Stay focused 5. Reflect regularly and honestly on your progress

If students follow these steps, they will be closer than ever before to exceeding their potential by the

end of 2015.
