WHAT IS A HAIRPIECE?Whether they are called hair systems, toupees, wigs, or strand - by - strand insertionsystems, all hair prostheses are constructed in a similar fashion using similar materials.All wigs and hair systems are machine sewn or hand tied. Occasionally, some may use acombination of both. Cost and appearance of a hairpiece will vary based on the materialsand craftsmanship used in their creation. Machine-made prostheses are sewn with thehair arranged in even rows; when the hair is blown or parted, the sewn hair tracks arevisible. With hand-tied prostheses, the knots can change direction allowing them tomove more like real hair when brushed or blown.

The highest quality wigs and hairpieces are constructed from human hair. Human hair iseasily matched to the client’s own hair for color, texture, and all levels of curl, wave, orstraightness. The best quality hair is European hair which is used in the most expensivehairpieces. Human hair wigs and hairpieces can be washed, blown dry, or set and curledjust as you would your own growing hair. Remi hair (from India) is a popular, slightly lessexpensive alternative to European hair. Inexpensive hairpieces are made from low qualityhuman hair, animal hair, artificial fibers, or a combination of all three. These hairpiecesoften “fuzz” quickly and need to be replaced more frequently. The least expensive wigsand hairpieces, which are made of synthetic fibers, can be washed and placed on a wigstand to dry. They will return to their natural shape when dry.They can only be restyled by a salon professional.

Semi-Permanent: The hair piece is affixed to the scalpusing liquid adhesives. A hairpiece attached in this manneris designed to be removed only by a hair technician, usuallyonce every three to six weeks. This process is also known asperimeter bonding or grafting.

Temporary Adhesive: This method uses double sided tapeto secure your hairpiece. It can be used in combination withmetal clips to allow you to remove and re-apply your hairpieceas desired.

Metal Clip Attachments: Small but powerful metal clips,that clip into your own hair, are sewn into the underside ofyour hairpiece. The clips are very secure and easy to remove.

PLEASE NOTE...Service Contracts are essentialfor clients wishing to wear moredelicate hairpieces needingrebonding every 3-6 weeks.

These contracts protect both theclient and salon by clearly definingthe type(s) of service and productto be delivered!

The existing hair on the top of your head cannot be integrated into a perimeterbonded or grafted hair system. In order to affix this system properly, your personalconsultant will shave your remaining hair, or a thin track around the perimeter ofyour existing hair.

Just like real hair, your hairpiece will need attention and regular maintenance if youwant it to always look its best. When considering purchasing a semi-permanentattached hairpiece, plan on purchasing a second unit. This will allow your personalconsultant to refresh one hairpiece while you wear the other. Expect to spend from$60-$300 a month for proper maintenance.
