Buffalo Soldiers
of the 9th

Fort Duchesne to
the railroad
through the city
of price.
• 1,000 rock art sites in the canyon with
more than 10,000 individual
petroglyphs
• Petroglyphs are carvings or
inscriptions on a rock• Hundreds of pit-houses, rock

The Fremont was present in
Nine Mile Canyon possibly as
early as 300 AD to 1250 AD
Fremont is actually a catch-all
term used to describe scattered
groups of hunters and farmers.
They practiced agriculture, growing corn, and

Current Issues and Dangers Important deposits of minerals
and other geographical
resources have been
discovered complicating
issues..
Natural Gas exploration creates
high levels of industrial truck traffic
producing clouds of dust that settles
on the rock art obscuring it from
view.
