00:00-00:06 IntroPL says, “Raise your hand if you have used any sort of social media in the last 30 minutes. Put your hands down. Today we will be exploring various social media postings. We will be doing a choose your own adventure type system, where after each station you will be given options that will lead you to the next room. For your first station, think about which social media platform you use the most: Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, or Twitter. In each corner of the room is a group leader who will lead you to your first location. Note, pay attention to how many people are in each group and try and keep them even. For example, if you go to instagram and there are a lot of people, please choose another option because you won’t be there long.”

GLs will say their social media and where they are going.

00:06-00:08 TransitionFacebook group to New Beit AmphitheaterInstagram to New beitSnapchat to MircazTwitter to Library

00:08-00:15 Rotation 1 (Social Medias)

1. Facebook:PPs will go around rapid fire and each say their name.

GL will say, “If you are currently sitting in this group that means your primary, or one of your primary, social media platforms is Facebook.”

GLs will ask,1. How often do you use Facebook?

a. I check it about 3 times a day2. Typically what activities do you do on Facebook?

a. Posting pictures, looking at memes, or commenting on my friends posts3. Although there are many positives to Facebook, what are some negatives?

a. The Facebook hackings, people posting really annoying things, political posts.

GL will say, “Thank you all so much. You will now be given your next option. You are now to post a picture, would you be more likely to post a picture of you with a significant other, or a political meme? Remember this is just a simulation so your relationship status or political affiliation does not matter. If you are going to Political meme head to NEW BEIT STAGE, if you are going to picture of significant other head to NEW BEIT.”

2. Instagram:PPs will go around rapid fire and each say their name.

GL will say, “If you are sitting in this group, that means your primary social media platform is Instagram.

GLs will ask,

1. How often do you use Instagram?a. I probably check about once an hour.

2. What do you typically do when you are on Instagram?a. Scroll through other people's posts and look at memes.

3. What are some positive things and negative things you see on Instagram, and how do you feel when you see them?

a. Some positive things I’ve seen are posts trying to raise awareness for a cause, some negative things I’ve seen are people bullying another in comments.

GL will say, “Thank you all so much. You will now be given your next option. You are now to post a picture, would you be more likely to post a picture of you with a selfie, party picture, or bathing suit picture? Remember this is just a simulation so have fun with your choices while also being honest with yourself. If you are going to Selfie head to MIRCAZ, if you are going to Party Picture head to MIRCAZ PAGODA , and if you are going to bathing suit picture head to NEW BEIT AMPHATHEATER.”

3. Snapchat: (choice of either of these) PPs will go around rapid fire and each say their name.

GL will say, “If you are sitting in this group that means your primary source of social media is Snapchat.

a. Many times throughout the day.2. What do you typically do when you are on Snapchat?

a. I talk to my friends and look at various news outlets.3. What are some positive and negative things that can come out of the app?

a. Since I live far from a lot of my friends, I like to use Snapchat to keep in touch, but I know Snapchat makes it very easy to send inappropriate pictures.

GL will say, “Thank you all so much. You will now be given your next option. You are now to post a picture, a picture of you and your friends at a party, or a video of your friends? Remember this is just a simulation so have fun with your choices while also being honest with yourself. If you are going to Party Picture head to MIRCAZ PAGODA, and if you are going to friends video head to SIFRIAH.”

4. Twitter: (choice of either of these) PPs will go around rapid fire and each say their name.

GL will say, “If you are in this group that means your primary outlet of social media is Twitter.”

GL will ask,1. How often do you use Twitter?

a. I check it 3-4 times a day.2. What do you typically do on Twitter?

a. I read through people at my schools and politicians tweets?3. What are some positives and negatives that can come out of Twitter?

a. Some positives is that it's a really good way to get information from my school, but it can also be negative because I see people from my school bullying one another or saying mean things.

GL will ask,1. How do you feel that you didn’t get the job because of posts you had posted years ago?

a. It is a very bad feeling I don’t like to be judged from things I posted as a teenager. I understand why it was done, but it upsets me because I wasn’t aware of these consequences as a child.

2. Why do you think more and more employers are conducting extensive background checks on social medias?

a. Because it allows them to get to know the person they are hiring better then just an interview and resumes.

3. Do you think it is a good thing that employers are looking deeper into their hirees past? Why or why not?a. I think it is bad because what someone posted a long time ago might not represent who they are

now. This should not have an impact on them.4. Moving forward what are steps you can take to be more mindful about what you are posting?

GL will ask,1. How do you feel that you didn’t get the job because of posts you had posted years ago?

a. It is a very bad feeling I don’t like to be judged from things I posted as a stupid teenager.

00:52-00:60 Wrap Up PL says “Raise your hand if you received the job at the end of the simulation.”

PL will ask,1. What feelings were you having during the simulation?

a. I was very frustrated because my posts kept on being conveyed in a manner that I didn’t mean them to be

2. Do you think as a society we are becoming more or less conscience about what we are sharing on social media, how so?

a. Less conscience, people at my school often post extremely inappropriate pages.3. We are all created in the image of God, B'tzelem Elohim, so how is it your job to make your media post

represent this?a. Not just to post when we are on vacation or have our hair and makeup done, but post normal/casual

photos too.

Raise your hand if you are planning on applying for a job at a URJ program (including CIT) at some point in the next 5 years. Going through the staff application camps takes into account your past posts on sites such as Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter and it greatly impacts your chances of getting hired. The lessons taught in this program are not just concepts that will affect you later in life, but they will affect you now and it is important to keep that in mind while having fun on social media. For example, hitting close to home, NFTY and some camps have a meeting before hiring staff members to go over past actions that have taken place in both communities in person and online.

PL says, “Thank you all so much for participating in this social media simulation! I hope you all realized that your choices on social media can have consequences when being reviewed for a job or internship in the real world. As it might be difficult to believe and trust that it is true that people do search your social media before hiring you, it is true and you should all be extremely careful of what to post for the world to see. Remember although this was a simulation and was somewhat cheesy at times, the overall lessons taught within this program are so important and could affect your lives sooner than you think. I hope this was fun for you guys as well as informative about this scary system of being hired. Closely monitor and consciously think about what is best for your future and remember, whatever you post can be seen by anyone at any time even if you think you “deleted” it.
