The 2016 Board of Trustee elections are to be held in June this year. Campbells

Bay School will be looking for five parent representatives and one staff

representative for a new three year term.

We would like to encourage our school community to participate in this election.

Information is available on the role of a trustee and what skills are involved on

the following website - www.trustee-election.co.nz/becoming-a-trustee/what-is-

a-trustee.

Further information will be available in the coming weeks. Please make sure

that the office has your current address details as all nomination and voting

papers will be posted to the home address we have on file.

Kind regards

Karen McNair - Returning Officer

1987: The Olden Days

Last year in term one we started publishing a series of eleven articles I wrote

entitled ‘1974’. The significance of 1974 was this was my first year of teaching

when I was let loose on the unsuspecting children of a school in a seaside

suburb north of Wellington. I compared teaching back in those ‘olden days’ with

the experiences children have in their classrooms today. My conclusion was

that children today get a better deal in the classroom compared to when I was a

classroom teacher and not just because I am no longer a classroom teacher!

I thought it might be useful to go back once more

to reflect on the trends that are apparent today in

comparison to when I first became a principal

back in 1987; yes, quite some time ago. The

point is not to be indulgent and to wallow in the

past but, rather, to use the past to reflect on

where we are today.

So, what are the trends that are apparent today? It is very difficult to rank them

so I won’t. Hence, please regard the short articles as being all pretty much ‘first

among equals’ as much time could be consumed by tinkering with rankings for

no real benefit. The first of three articles: Next week ‘The Brain’.

School Camp Dates

Year 6

11 – 14 April 2016 at Carey Park,

Henderson

Year 5

4 – 6 May 2016 in Rotorua

Year 4

15 April 2016 at Carey Park,

Henderson (Not overnight)

Reminder that the deadline for

payments of Year 4 Camp is

Friday 1 April, Year 6 Camp

Wednesday 6 April and Year 5

Camp Friday 8 April.

Payments can be made

through the school’s online

payment portal.

Vehicles in School

Grounds

A reminder that aside from

vehicles transporting children

with the official disabled pass,

non staff/contractor vehicles are

not to use the school parking

areas.

Parking is at a premium for staff.

Hence, please do not use the

school car parking areas.

The gate from the bus bay to the

car parks will be locked in the

afternoons from approximately

2.30 until 3.30pm daily. This will

reduce vehicle movement across

the small pedestrian crossing,

thereby improving the safety for

our children.

After School

No children are to be on the

school grounds after 3:15pm

without a caregiver or suitable

supervisor.

Communication

We ask that if you have a mobile phone, you down load the school’s app - see

below.

We use this as the first method of contact when messages need to go to more

than one person and it is important those people get the message in a timely

manner.

The app is free! It is easy to download; the proof being that I managed it! While

we also use the school’s newsletter for ‘breaking news’ the app is the best way

to receive urgent and or important information from the school.

If you have any problems downloading the app I am happy to show you how :)

Reminders

This is a ‘hat term.’ Please ensure your child has their named school hat at

school every day.

For the sake of safety we ask that you inform us ahead of time if your child is

not going to be at school. Please use either the designated telephone number

(410 9551) or the absence option on the tiqbiz school app.

Haven’t downloaded the app yet? Please see below how to do this.

The app is an important communication tool.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO CHANGE YOUR CHILD’S CLASSROOM IF YOU

HAVE ALREADY DOWNLOADED THE APP.

Park safely and keep our children safe

This year our school is participating in Auckland Transport’s ‘Safety at the

School Gate’ programme. Drivers who stop in the wrong place to drop off

passengers put the safety of children at risk. Parking officers will be on patrol

outside the school this year and will be issuing tickets to drivers who park

illegally.

The agreed approach is ‘zero tolerance’ – There will be no warnings issued, you

will receive a ticket if you are double parked, parked on yellow lines, or over

someone’s driveway – or for any other vehicle safety offence.

Please park legally to keep our children safe and to avoid being ticketed.

School Photos

Reminder to return your red photo

order envelopes to the school

office by Friday 1 April.
