Dear Colleagues,

The Mumbai branch of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (MBIAP) is pleased to host PEDICON 2019 – The 56th Annual Conference of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics at MMRDA Exhibition Grounds from the 6th-10th February 2019. The city of Mumbai, synonymous with industry, innovation, grit and glamour has served as the ocial secretariat of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics since inception. After hosting successful PEDICONs in 2003 and 2007, we are gearing up to host yet another memorable PEDICON in 2019.

MMRDA Exhibition Grounds is the most sought-after venue in the city. Located at the heart of the new business hub, Bandra Kurla Complex, it is easily accessible from various parts of the city. Rooms across various hotel categories have been blocked at competitive rates for the convenience of participating delegates. The event arena itself is spread over 6 lakh square feet. The entire arena is covered, sound insulated and air conditioned with well-appointed zones and ample parking facilities.

The event is expected to surpass all earlier PEDICONs in terms of registration, scientic content and industry participation. Our early-bird campaign has attracted over 4,000 registrations and we expect to register 10,000 delegates by the end of this year. Our theme for 2019 is 'Illness to Wellness' and with this in mind, we have programmed the scientic sessions of the conference. We start PEDICON 2019 on the 6th of February, 2019 with 25 focused pre-conference workshops at various institutes across Mumbai. 7th of February, 2019 will be dedicated to CME and the conference will be on 8th, 9th and 10th February, 2019. Over the four days, we have 600 faculty members presenting simultaneously across 8 scientic halls. Great care has been taken to design the program in a way that interests everyone from a post-graduate student to the seasoned consultant. Interaction and discussion has been given greater priority over didactic lectures. We also expect to have over 1500 academic submissions for free papers and e-posters.

Apart from the rich scientic program, we plan to introduce a novel concept 'PEDIFEST' that is designed to provide value engagement for the accompanying delegates through the day. In addition to this we will be hosting two star-studded banquets on the 8th and 9th of February, 2019. All conference details are available on the ocial website www.pedicon2019.in and the conference mobile application is available on the Android and Apple app stores.

With great programming, a world-class venue, delicious meals and enthralling entertainment, we are condent that PEDICON 2019 will be an avenue for you to learn, share, network and get inspired. We whole-heartedly welcome you to join us for PEDICON 2019 in 'आमची मंबुई' ... (Amchi Mumbai)

Remembering Dr Anand Shandilya - A Tribute.

07

Dr. Anand Kameshwardeva Shandilya : 21st July 1962 - 1st January 2019.

We deeply mourn the sudden demise of an integral member of IAP Mumbai. Dr Shandilya was an astute physician and an excellent teacher. A GSMC graduate of the batch of 1981 and completed his MD from Wadia Children's hospital in 1990. He went on to become the torchbearer for the PALS course in India and was the National Convenor for the same in 2007. He had facilitated over a 100 PALS courses all over the country.

Emergency medicine was his area of interest. He was a faculty for many PEMC courses and subsequently, was instrumental in the conception and propogation of the Goldenhour Emergency Management ( GEM ) course by the IAP. He was the National Convenor for the GEM course in 2005.

He was an excellent orator and was invited as faculty at numerous State, National and International conferences. Besides this, he was faculty for various IAP modules. He was also associated with AWESOME (a movement about conferences without pharma involvement) and STEER a very popular module for routine office practice. He was also an active member of the RCPCH program in India. He was an examiner for the MRCPCH exams in Mumbai and a faculty for the training program as well.

He had various publications to his credit and was a contributor to many books in various capacities. A very tech savvy person and an avid reader, he was responsible for taking the Thursday clinics at Sion online to reach out to many pediatricians all over the world.

He was a gem of a person, extremely good at heart, always jovial, with an excellent sense of humor. He lived life by enjoying it everyday, because he believed and understood that life is to be valued. He was a fitness freak, walked 8 km everyday and meditated regularly.

He was instrumental in giving scientific inputs to EMBICON 2017 and EMBICON 2018 and making them a huge success. He was awarded the Dr. S. M. Merchant Oration at EMBICON 2018. His oration on " Simplying the Princples of Pediatric practice for Practising Pediatricians" is a highly cherished talk and appreciated even by non pediatricians.

Dr. Anand was an important Organising member of the PEDICON 2019 team and his presence will be sorely missed at the Conference.

IAP Mumbai mourns this garangutan loss and offers it's homages to a great Academician and great human being.

"The 5th annual conference of ISPGHAN (Indian Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition) and 28th annual meeting of the Pediatric Gastroenterology chapter of the IAP was held on the 27th and 28th of October at Hyatt Regency, Mumbai with a pre-conference meeting of case scenarios on genetic liver problems on the 26th of October which was telecast live to Pediatricians all over the country.

The meeting which was organised by Children's Liver Foundation and IAP, Mumbai had more than 500 registered delegates and a learned and enthusiastic faculty from India and abroad. This was a joint effort of the two societies which have been organising the popular "Hepaticon" every year The pre-conference meeting had case scenarios with a genetics background being presented and discussed with a very interactive audience comprising of PG students, Pediatric Gastroenterologists, Pediatricians, Gastroenterologists, Geneticists and dieticians.

The two days of the conference had few didactic talks interspersed with panel discussions on a wide variety of topics which would be of interest to both the generalists and specialists including a panel discussion on the same theme which was moderated by Dr YK Amdekar, the Organising Chairperson of the meeting.

The inauguration moved away from the conventional lamp lighting to an eco-friendly planting trees online in the Sunderbans forests in the name of ISPGHAN 2018. The meeting was formally inaugurated by Dr Armida Fernandes, senior Pediatrician and founder of the NGO - SNEHA that works on projects of health, nutrition and violence in women and children across the slums of Mumbai. Dr Aabha Nagral - Organising secretary and Managing trustee of Children's Liver foundation, Dr Bela Verma, president IAP, Mumbai, Dr Malathi Sathiyasekaran - President ISPGHAN, Dr Anshu Srrivastava- Secretary ISPGHAN shared their views in the inauguration.

The highlight of the meeting was the eposter session which was the first for an ISPGHAN meeting and was a big success with more than a 100 abstracts received for the conference. The meeting truly reflected the coming of age of the specialty of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology. The proceedings of the meeting are available on "www.childrenliverindia.org
