The Leaders Guild (TLG) is a leadership development programme under the Centre for Leadership and Management (CLM), Tangaza University College, founded with support from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and DePaul University, Chicago USA.

TLG develops competent and holistic servant leaders and managers, including Catholic Religious Sisters, who lead self, others, and organizations to maximize their potential. We offer services and programmes for members and non-members.

TLG seeks to be “the go to place” for leadership development within Kenya and beyond.

An alumni meeting held at St Patricks’ in Karen was the first activity this year.

TLG officials, Alumni, together with TLG Chicago Liaison Dr. Kenya Grooms and TLG Kenya Liaison Sr. Alice engaged in discussions that focused on improving and enhancing TLG Alumni engagement and services.

TLG second event was on 2nd February. It was a follow up workshop from Leading with Integrity Conference. This was held in partnership with, Executive Leadership Network (ELNET) at Tangaza University College. Dr. Tim Kiruhi, International Leadership Foundation Director

and ELNET Coordinator facilitated the workshop with team members.

A key take out and summary of the workshop, is a quote by Delanyo Adadevoh. “A society cannot rise above the character of its

leaders” hence the need to elect ethical leaders who uphold integrity.

TLG held several product development meetings in January and February facilitated by Stanley Gichobi of WYLDE International. This encompassed many learning

and insightful moments that has been vital in the roll out of coaching program and improvement of our services.

In partnership with Transformational Leadership, TLG held a 3 day Transformational Leadership Seminar. The opportunity increased TLG’s network and impact as leaders from different sectors in the society gathered together to learn and reflect on becoming transformational leaders and their legacy as a result.

TLG awarded 6 of the proposal writing competition winners, a total sum of 1.4 Million Kenya Shillings for their projects courtesy of Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and an anonymous donor.

TLG new website designed by Claire Epperly was also launched on the same day.

Both the events were graced by DePaul University: Chicago SNL former Dean, Dr. Marisa Alicea and Associate Vice President of Advancement at DePaul University Chicago: Abena Apea.

TEAM RETREAT

EXPERIENCE COACHING15th-21 st May 2017

The TLG team participated in International Coach Federation-Kenya Chapter “Experience Coaching Week”. TLG helped in creating awareness of coaching services and the benefits through social media and by participating in a few organizations events. Some of TLG clients also shared their coaching experience on social media and expressed their gratitude to TLG for the positive impact they have experienced as a result of our coaching services.

TLG held the first TLG team retreat exercise at Resurrection exercise facilitated by Mr. Joram Mwinamo Managing Partner and Director of WYLDE International. It was a great opportunity to engage in TLG team health exercises and consult/review strategic plan. We are grateful to Mr. Mwinamo for the continued support as consultant and partner.

His contribution has been helpful to The Leaders Guild growth and progress.

Four TLG team members were part of Coach Development Institute Africa 2017 graduates. The ceremony was held at Intercontinental Hotel. It was a notable event and the graduate’s accomplishments were recognized by being published in Daily Nation. TLG team was under ICF Certified Organizational Effectiveness Coaches category.

TLG attended Future First Launch of Association of Alumni Communities in Kenya. This was held on 29th May at Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development, officiated by the Cabinet Secretary for Education Dr. Fred Matiangi. TLG was also requested to help develop Tangaza University Alumni Association. We are committed to making a valuable contribution in partnership with other stakeholders in 2018 and beyond.

The second workshop, Leadership Coaching: A tool for effective communication was held on 27th June. Mr. Duncan Juma facilitated the session and engaged participants on the importance of believing in people and their potential.

Leading Change: The Challenge, TLG’s second annual conference was held on 14th July at Tangaza University College. It was a relevant engagement, as speakers, panelists and a diverse group of participants engaged in discussions/learning on how to become and help create the change we need in society, especially in Kenya. Grateful to the conference committee members, sponsors, partners and volunteers who contributed greatly to the day’s success.

TLG team facilitated Summit Seminar session for Tangaza University College-Center for Leadership and Management BA students at St Patrick’s in Karen in preparation for their upcoming graduation and explained why TLG and the benefits. It helped create a cohesive team relationship between the students and TLG.

TLG team had the opportunity to give a presentation on coaching during Tangaza University College Faculty Workshop College. This helped to create awareness on TLG coaching services to the staff.

Workplace Coaching to Enhance Organizational Performance workshop was held in collaboration with ICF Certified Coaches: Mr. Kimunya Mugo and Michael Oyier: ICF Kenya Chapter-Public Relations & Marketing Board Member. This included experiential practical coaching sessions in teams on the second day. Tangaza University College Vice Chancellor Designate: Rev: Prof Stephen N. Mbugua awarded certificates of participation and reiterated commitment Tangaza’s commitment in establishing coaching.

We held our 1st Partner Breakfast meeting at Roussel House, Donum Dei Missinory Sisters in Karen on 31st October. It was a very insightful meeting and a great privilege to join hands with likeminded organizations and enhance our impact in society and also express TLG’s gratitude for the continued partnership and support.

Our last event of the year was Alumni Reunion; which took place on 3rd December at Mamba Village. Mr. Duncan Juma engaged Alumni in team building and coaching activities as we celebrated the new Alumni who recently graduated, from the Center for Leadership and Management.

TLG held a workshop and launched Integrity Movement at Tangaza University College in Partnership with Tangaza Students Association (TANSA) and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) Rose Ego and Michael Ochula from EACC facilitated the workshop. TLG is committed to working together and assisting TANSA to establish the movement and also plant trees to commemorate the event.

The highlighted are some of the 2017 highlights. There were many other activities behind the scenes as TLG participated in several like-minded organizations events i.e. Fearless Leadership Summit in June, Executive Leadership Network Breakfast Meetings, Ashoka International Meetings, Transparency International in partnership with SIMAMA debates and Africa Young Leaders Foundation Coaching Speaking Engagement to mention a few.

It has been a fulfilling experience for TLG team to visit some of the Alumni and Associates proposal awardee projects for monitoring and evaluation during the second half of the year in various parts of the country.

The amazing impact in society within their sphere of influence is an inspiration.

As we look forward to officially celebrating TLG’s 3 years in existence, in February 2018. Our hearts are full of gratitude to God and each one of you for believing in us, giving us the opportunity to serve and partnering with us in this lifelong learning journey of leadership development.

We take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all our partners; especially DePaul University, Chicago, Tangaza University College and the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation for sponsoring The Leaders Guild.

TLG looks forward to maximizing our impact as “We seek to be the go to place for leadership development in Kenya and beyond.”
