FROM THE PRINCIPAL CLASS TEAM Recently the Education Committee of School Council was held in Ash Van Hattum’s classroom where Ash, the ICT leader in the school, demonstrated some of the new technology that we have purchased. This incorporated an LCD television, iPads, and a visualiser. He showed how the school’s interactive Interwrite technology and the iPads can be used with the TV to further enhance the teaching and learning programs. We are currently working on developing a prototype trolley for the TV’s to be attached to before purchasing more of them for classrooms. The visualisers can be used to project written materials and objects on to the TV or through the projectors on to the class screens without having to be scanned first. The iPads are becoming well used within literacy and numeracy sessions and also within specialist areas and it is obvious that they are a popular tool with the children. Last Friday morning the P-2 area of the school held a wonderful multicultural parade that linked with their integrated unit of inquiry for the term. As always the children were simply gorgeous and loved showing off their costumes and explaining where they were from. Enrolments for 2013 If you have a child beginning school for the first time in 2013 we need you to enrol them before the end of term (there are only three weeks left!!). Our School Discovery sessions begin the second week back next term and this program is only open to children whose enrolment forms are in at the office. We would ask that you don’t wait until the first School Discovery session to hand in your forms as the transition team need to know numbers in order to plan for the sessions. Beanie Kids Fundraiser LAST CHANCE!

Orders must be in– Thursday 14th

is the ABSOLUTE LATEST

If we don’t send in our orders in this week we will not get the orders back in time before the school holidays..so if you still have an order sitting at home please bring in for your LAST CHANCE this Thursday 14th June!

Beanie Kids are a cute, cuddly, and popular 21cm bean-filled plush bear that are fun to collect and make great gifts – just think of any birthdays coming up or even as Christmas gifts for family and friends.

For every bear sold at $11.99, $4.99 will be donated to our school. This is a great fun way of raising money for our classrooms.

There are also some great prizes on offer this year!

• Every participant will receive a cool Beanie Kids environmental bag! • Buy 3 Beanie Kids – receive a FREE Beanie Kids Bag Tag! • Buy 6 Beanie Kids – receive a FREE VIP Beanie Master Bear!

PLUS…For each Beanie Kid purchased receive one entry into a raffle to win a 40cm VIP Beanie Master Cuddly Kid!!

Sue Truscott is doing a wonderful job organising this event and if you have any queries please contact Sue on 0402 276 209.

Trivia Night – 11th August at the Box Hill Town Hall Dana BP and her team have our fabulous and famous Trivia Night booked in for the 11

th of August at the Box Hill

Town Hall. Your invitation will be on its way home in your children’s school bag between the 18th and 22

nd of June.

Start thinking about your tables - 10 people per table maximum.

Start gathering up your gold coins for the games and start reading up on Trivia.

For all our new parents to the school…we will give you a heads up…when the Roberts McCubbin Trivia Night has a theme, don’t get caught out - everybody dresses up in some way - from a small accessory to a full blown costume. You can be creative, interpretative, simplistic or clever – it’s all part of the fun of the night.

OK…ok…ok…you will find out the theme soon…we cannot give out hints with this one – it will just give the whole thing away…don’t worry, you will have time to get your costumes/outfits ready.

Can you help with our Raffle and Games Prizes? Trivia Night is predominantly social event but we do have a fundraising element with our Raffle and Fundraising Games such as four corners, coin toss, true and false etc. Do you have a business, product/service that you would like to advertise to our school community, or know someone who does? The Roberts McCubbin Trivia Night has approximately over 200 parents and friends attending. We are gathering raffle and games prizes and are asking the school community if you are able to help with a discount or donations of services or products or perhaps sponsor the winning prize for a Fundraising Game.

Please let Dana 0408 424 842 or myself at [email protected] know if you can help with our fundraising raffle and games. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Next Trivia Night Meeting: Monday 18th

June at 7.30pm in the school staffroom (next to the office). We would appreciate your involvement and support. It is a lot of fun getting the theme happening and help to get things organised is always appreciated. So, if you can come along Dana and the PFA would love to have you as part of our trivia team of helpers!

Forest Hill Chase School Rewards

Does your family do all their shopping at Forest Hill Chase? If so that’s great if not maybe now is the time to start!

Every time you, your friends, or family shop at Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre, you simply place your receipts in the Roberts McCubbin boxes located near the Body Shop and Best and Less stores. If you need your receipts, you can take them to the Customer Service Desk at Forest Hill Chase and they will record the “kilometres” and stamp the receipt so that it has been counted so you can keep your receipt.

Each dollar spent in the centre helps our school earn “kilometres”. The more you spend the closer our school gets to winning a share of the prizes, including weekly encouragement prizes. Visit www.runaroundaustralia.com.au for more details.

PLUS there are double kilometre stores; AMF Bowling, Hoyts, Kearney Shoes, Jamaica Blue Coffee, JB HiFi, Escape Travel, Kay and Cole, Nandos, Rebel Sports and OPSM.

Also if you register at the service desk or online as a Forest Hill Chase VIP Member the school earns 200 kilometres.

So tell your friends, family, and neighbours to place their Forest Hill Chase receipts in the Roberts McCubbin boxes at Forest Hill all receipts count and some count for double points! Also, don’t forget there is a box (the small green one) in the school office foyer for your receipts.

The Forest Hill School Rewards program ends on the 22nd

June so keep on grabbing those receipts and placing them in the Roberts McCubbin Boxes.

Woolworths Earn and Learn We can earn some valuable learning resources from Modern Teaching Aids in the areas of mathematics, english resources, science equipment, or arts and craft materials etc thanks to Woolworths Earn and Learn program.

When you shop at Woolworths, you can collect stickers from the checkout operator and stick them on the Woolworths Earn and Learn Sticker Cards. There will be one sticker for every $10 spent (excludes liquor, tobacco, and gift cards). These stickers earn us the points towards purchasing some of the learning resources from MTA.

Place your completed Earn and Learn Sticker Card in the big Woolworths Box in the School Office foyer. There are extra sticker cards available in the office foyer and at Woolworths and don’t forget to ask the for your stickers at the cash register when you pay for your shopping! For more information visit www.woolworths.com.au/earnandlearn.com.au .

Earn DOUBLE Stickers! From Monday this week until Tuesday 19th June, if you buy specially marked products you

will be eligible for double stickers on your total shop. As long as you spend more than $10 and include a product from one of the following eight big brands Continental, Dove Beauty, Lipton, Proactive, Magnum, Omo, Rexona, Tresseme and Flora, you will earn twice as many stickers for our school!

More great news: the program has been extended to the 12th August 2012.

Thank you for your support with these programs, the children and our school have a chance to benefit greatly.

Biggest Morning Tea If you would like to contribute over the next few weeks to the Cancer Councils fundraising efforts, you still can – the Biggest Morning Tea collection box is on the counter at the school office. Pop in and place a donation if you wish or if you are having a class morning tea catch up perhaps a collection can be made? It is a worthwhile cause and thank you so much for your support.
