GARDEN to KITCHEN

This week in our garden-to-kitchen program the student in the senior class were looking at the effect of yeast and they used some yeast to

make dough and baked 3 scrumptious loaves of bread. While the bread was baking the students used some freshly picked rhubarb to make rhubarb jam.

I must say I really enjoyed eating a warm slice of bread with jam.

TAKING PRIDE IN OUR SCHOOL:

Thank you to this team of school leaders, who showed initiative to helping beautify our school grounds by clearing and tidying the garden beds near our assembly area. Well done Allyson, Sienna, Katie, Kae-

sha & Charly. I am very proud of you and appreciate your hard

work.

CHILD SAFETY

Darraweit Guim Primary School is committed to safety and wellbeing of all children and young people. This will be the primary focus of our care and decision-making.

Darraweit Guim Primary School has zero tolerance for child abuse.

Darraweit Guim Primary School is committed to providing a child safe environment where children and young people are safe and feel safe, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives. Particular attention will be paid to the cultural safety of Aboriginal children and children from culturally and/or linguisti-cally diverse backgrounds, as well as the safety of children with a disability.

Every person involved in Darraweit Guim Primary School has a re-sponsibility to understand the important and specific role he/she plays individually and collectively to ensure that the wellbeing and safety of all children and young people is at the forefront of all they do and every decision they make.

JUNIOR CLASS

In English, we have been looking at using all our decoding skills to read new

words. We have also been making some silly sentences! The classes favourite was

“his slimy principal frowns in the dining room”.

In maths this week we have been looking at measuring weights.

We have been experimenting with hefting and using our bodies as scales to compare the weights of two objects.

STEM

In STEM this week we looked at making paper plate snakes. All students had

the opportunity to design their own snake and then cut it out in a swirl to see

how long we could make our snakes.

CLASSROOM NEWS

SCHOOL COUNCIL: FUNDRAISING

Christmas Raffle— We are starting early this year!

Donations for our end of year raffle are

now being requested. If you can help

out with donations towards our prizes

that would be great.

MIDDLE CLASS:

This week the students in the Middle class have been exploring different types of poetry in their reading

and writing programs. They have explored alliteration and similes and have begun to create their own al-

literation poems. In maths, students have been exploring long division, which can be a bit tricky, but they

are doing so well! Well done Middle class for all of the hard work that they have done this week!

Senior Class

Welcome to the end of week 6! All students are now back into the swing

of school, after a few continual weeks at school. The senior class enjoyed

making potatoes for our potato Olympics and wrote some interesting ath-

lete profiles about their potatoes.

Students have also been trying to make our school a ResourceSmart

school. Students are making sure that the power and heating is turned off

when not in use. They have made posters that they have stuck around the

school to remind students to pick up their rubbish and don’t waste water!

BOOK CLUB

Brochures have been distributed via the classrooms. Orders are to be online by 3rd September.
