Joint School 5-11
Term dates 12
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we draw to the end of another busy and exciting school year, it is
time to reflect in a final newsletter on the hard work and success of
everyone at Fairfield and Colneis.
We hope you have enjoyed reading the children’s reports and have had
the opportunity to attend one of the Open Evenings to celebrate your
child’s progress. As always we are very proud of every child’s
achievements and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for
all the support you give by helping them at home and in attending school
events.
We have just enjoyed a wonderful Year 6 Leaver’s Assembly and are
looking forward to the Year 2 Assembly on Tuesday. These assemblies
round off a busy calendar of events that staff organise and I am sure
that like us, you would want to extend your thanks to all the staff who
work tirelessly to support your children in every way possible with their
learning.
As you will see later on in the newsletter, we have a number of staff
leaving (some temporary and some permanent) and a number of new
joiners too. We extend our thanks and best wishes to all the people we
are saying goodbye (or au revoir) to, and we look forward to working
with our new colleagues.
Mrs Reed is naturally disappointed that she has missed this exciting
part of the term, but wanted to pass on her good wishes to you all. She
is regularly in touch with us and loves to hear how well all the children
are doing. Her treatment is progressing well and she hopes to be back
in school following October half term as planned.
We’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of our Year 6 children (and
any other children moving to pastures new) very good luck for their
next steps in education and we look forward to hearing of all of their
future successes. So it just remains for us to wish all parents and
children a very happy Summer holiday and we look forward to welcoming
you back in September.
Kind regards
Mr Keith Rimmer and Mrs Anne Marks, Acting Co-Headteachers

One Life Suffolk Oscars
On Thursday 7th July, three groups of
children from Year Six were invited to
attend the One Life Suffolk Oscars at
Endeavour House. Each group had
entered their anti-smoking film,
produced as part of their PSHE lessons.
They were all recognised for
successfully promoting the risks
associated with smoking. Along with
groups from a range of other primary
and secondary schools from Suffolk, the
children were treated to a 'red carpet'
experience, including receiving three
awards for the school and individual
trophies. Congratulations to everybody
who participated!
A Day Out at Wimbledon
Members of the Colneis Tennis club
joined Mrs Livingstone and Mrs Harvey
for a day at Wimbledon on Sunday 10th
July. The eight pupils had an amazing
day out absorbing the atmosphere and
had seats in Court 1. They watched the
Boys Final and were able to meet the
winner and had their giant tennis balls
signed! An amazing day out was had by
all.
Y6 Leavers Assembly
Well done to all in Y6 for participating in
their Leavers Assembly. We wish you all
the very best as you leave Colneis and
move on to high school.

JOINT SCHOOL INFORMATION
Information on the school website
www.fairfieldinfant.co.uk www.colneisjunior.co.uk
We would encourage you to log on to the school website to find helpful ways to assist your child and to keep up-to-date with the school calendar.
The Federation of Fairfield and Colneis—Governor News
We are at the end of yet another busy and successful school year. Governors would like to thank
all the staff for their hard work during the year. We are very fortunate in having a group of
teachers and support staff who work so well together to provide all the children with the best
education possible.
At our governing body meeting at the beginning of July, governors shared their experiences of
the many visits they had made to school this term. We enjoyed seeing the exciting and
imaginative activities on the open afternoons, where the children were busily engaged and
enjoying their learning. It was good to see so many parents sharing their children’s learning with
them and to hear all the positive comments about the schools that you told us afterwards over a
cup of tea. Governors have also been involved in Learning Walks with members of staff and in
Pupil Perception interviews where we talked to children about their lessons. We have a report
each term from staff about all aspects of school life and it is good to see at first-hand what they
are telling us.
Now we are saying ‘goodbye’ to Year 6 and we give them our best wishes for their future in High
School. It is a big step for them but we are sure that their time at Fairfield and Colneis has
prepared them well for the next stage of their education.
Have a good summer break. Celia Davies Chair of Governors

Pigs Gone Wild
Several pupils and members of staff have enjoyed tracking down the pigs on the Pigs Gone Wild
trail. Mrs Winton snapped Phelix, our pig who is positioned in the Ipswich Town Hall. If you
haven’t already had a chance to go, you can download the Pigs Gone Wild trail maps to make sure
you know where to find all 69 of the pigs. Please log on to http://www.pigsgonewild.co.uk/trail.
The sticker books are also now available to buy in all local East of England Co-op stores.
An app is downloadable from both Apple and Android stores.
Felixstowe Fuchsia Art Competition Winners
Congratulations to Ellie-Rose, Ruby and Eve from Colneis and Saoirse, Ella and
Mathilda from Fairfield for winning prizes in the Felixstowe Fuchsia Art
Competition.
Poetry Recital
Daisy (Y2) and Abigail (Y3) represented our schools brilliantly on
June 30th at a Poetry Recital held at Trimley St Mary school and
supported by The Rotary Club of Felixstowe Landguard.
Daisy performed 'The Cupboard' by Walter de la Mare and Abigail
recited Archibald the Spider by Paul Rogers. The audience were
very appreciative of all the children's efforts and everyone
deservedly received a huge round of applause.
Well done girls and look after those certificates!

Wonder Pig Book Launch
Last week we were delighted to hold the book launch of our latest book ‘Wonder Pig’. The
families of the Colneis and Fairfield pupils involved in writing and illustrating the book celebrated
the launch with a slice of the Wonder Pig cake kindly made by Mrs Lingley.
Books are available to purchase from the school office at a cost of £7.00 each (cash only
please). All proceeds go to ‘The Steve Ransom Bursary Fund,’ that Mrs Ransom has set up in
memory of her husband. The Bursary will be awarded to fund an Access student on the Access to
Higher Education course at Suffolk New College; allowing them to continue their education. The
fund is a marvellous testament to Mr Ransom, as he inspired so many young people to fall in love
with reading and writing.

Enjoyment and Enrichment Workshops
The Felixstowe Family of Schools programme of enrichment courses take place once every half
term on a Saturday morning at one of the Felixstowe schools. We were delighted to host our
event on Saturday 9th July for over 60 children from all of our local schools. Workshops
included art, poetry, sports, movie making, creative writing and robotics. The children behaved
beautifully and really enjoyed all that was on offer. A big thank you also to all the staff,
coaches and STEM ambassadors from BT who gave up their time on a Saturday morning and
made it such a success.

Safety Parking and Crossing
Hardly a month goes by without either a parent or a member of the public contacting us to
report a ‘near miss’ accident or parking hazard.
Can we please remind Fairfield parents that you have not been given permission to park at the
petrol station. A member of staff has contacted us to stress their concern as they regularly
see children run across the forecourt in the path of cars.
Could we also remind you to be considerate when parking in residential areas. Again, we have
received calls from members in the community advising that driveways have been blocked by
parents dropping/collecting.
Please do all you can to ensure every member of the Fairfield and Colneis families stays safe.
