Open Sew 2020 Bring your machine and projects and join us for Open Sew at the Adel Library. This is a free event. Come for one day or both. The room is secured overnight. Ironing and cutting stations are provided. Hours are 10 am until the last stitch is made each day. Generally the 2nd weekend of the month, the dates can vary due to availability of the library space. Please note these dates: January 23 and 24 July 16 and 17 February 13 and 14 August 20 and 21 March 12 and 13 September 17 and 18 April 16 and 17 October 1t and 16 May 14 and 15 November 19 and 20 June 18 and 19 December 17 and 18

Classes We are just finishing up renovations to expand for more classroom space at the shop. We are making plans now to host sit and stitch where we can gather to practice English Paper Piecing or maybe work on Hand Applique’ as we kick off our new applique BOM. Watch for more. Our first class in the new area will be of this new bag designed by Flo Welch and featuring Half Hexies. Watch for this date.

Sisters of the Cloth

This quilt-history class meets 3 Saturday mornings each year at the Adel Library. Here are the 2020 dates.

Saturday, July 18, 10 am to noon Saturday, Sept 19, 10 am to noon

Saturday, November 21,10 am to noon Quilters and friends gather to learn and listen.

Hand sewing projects are provided. Guests may also choose to bring their own hand work or to just enjoy the company, show and share, and listen to the program.

Each meeting will include discussion on the history of women, their lives and their quilts, that settled the prairie for us.

$50 for series or $20 for any one class.

June 1 – 30 - All Iowa Shop Hop – This year, shops will have small blocks, personally designed with a fun quilt slogan. Here is ours. The hash marks allow you to trim it to 4 1/4” or 5”.

May to August – Row x Row has had lots of refreshing and is now called Quilter’s Trek. The dates are earlier in the year. It will feature color rather than theme and blocks rather than rows. Also, shops will have collectible pre-printed squares hidden in their kits. The 2020 color is Blue and White.

Central Iowa Free Quilt Society January 11, March 14 and May 9

This group meets every other month at the Adel Library to share ideas on making Free Quilts.

By definition, a Free Quilt is a quilt you make using what you have - - - leftover blocks or block parts, stash fabrics, extra charm squares or jelly roll strips leftover from another project, excess pieces of binding or border strips - - - - . Free quilts are not necessarily scrappy. They are about liberating space in our sewing rooms by using up what we have.

Meetings begin at 9 am for those that want to bring their machine and sit and stitch together. Or, come at 1 pm when we regroup for our sharing meeting, - - - sharing ideas, patterns and especially our show and tell.

And always plan to contribute to or take away from the Sharing Table where unwanted fabrics go to become wanted again. Join the Central Iowa Free Quilt Society Group on Facebook to follow all the activity of this fun society.
