The newly developed YBB Type 2 series comprises a complete range of 30 mm resolu-tion hand protection devices for all your Type 2, PL c, SIL 1 applications.

The rugged aluminum housing and PMMA screen are suitable for applications in almost any kind of industrial environment. Quick and simple installation is achieved by 5-pin M12 connector, integrated alignment aids, and the mounting brackets also included.

− Robust housing− Simple wiring and installation− Protective heights from 150 mm to 1827 mm− Operating distance up to 12 m

Laser cutters with fast moving tables holding the working pieces represent a risk to ma-chine operators. A safety light curtain can be considered to prevent people from reaching into or entering the ongoing process. In case of intrusion during a potentially dangerous phase, table movement can be stopped promptly.

If the result of the risk assessment allows the use of a Type 2 / PL c / SIL 1 safety light curtain, the protection is very effective. In addition, a direct view onto the working process is possible with no physical barriers that complicate access to the machine or finished parts.

− Protective heights available from 150 mm to 1827 mm− Quick response time allows installation close to the working process− Mirror columns available for multi-side protection

Many pick and place tasks are performed with the help of small robots, which represent a relatively modest hazard to staff. If the result of the risk assessment allows the use of a Type 2 / PL c / SIL 1 safety light curtain, the robot arm movements can simply be stopped if an operator reaches into the process during operation. This then protects very effectively both the operator and the machinery.

− Cost-effective and safe solution− Robust mechanical design− Operating distance up to 12 m

pICk-And-plACe RoBotS

For the operators of fully automated product labeling machines, the hazard involved is mostly slight.

If the result of the risk assessment allows the use of a Type 2 / PL c / SIL 1 safety light curtain, a protected machine opening can be used to interrupt the conveyor or material feeding as well as the labeling process itself as soon as an operator reaches into the protective field of the light curtain. Furthermore, the same instal-lation can be used to detect a material jam or products that have tipped over.

− Simple wiring with standard M12 connectors− Ingress protection degree IP 65 + IP 67− Easy-to-use mounting brackets included

Page 28: NEWS Catalog Winter 2013-14 E

IO-Link is the first worldwide standardized IO technology (IEC 61131-9) to allow communi-cation with sensors and actuators. Devices are identified, parameterized and diagnosed. Cyclic information about device status is also obtained through “process data”. IO-Link is not a fieldbus. It deals with point-to-point communication between a master and a de-vice. The IO-Link master, usually in conjunction with a PLC, represents the gateway to fieldbuses like Profibus, ProfiNet, EtherCAT, etc.

Data monitoring:

Switching state is monitored continuously. This not only monitors the signal itself, but also the state at 80% of the switching distance. One can therefore ensure that the sensor is not working at the limit of its specifications.

Diagnosis:

The operating state of the sensor is checked. In case of wire break, under-voltage, LC oscillator break or installation of the wrong sensor, information is provided directly through IO-Link to enable fast repair, maintenance and replacement.

nO/nC selection:

The output switching mode can be selected as NO or NC. A single sensor type is configurable for the various needs of an application. This helps reduce the number of different sensor types required in stock.

Switching timer:

The timing of output switching can be configured. Depending on the needs of an application, output switching can be delayed or the duration stretched through programming.

Detection counter:

Events are counted. By registering the number of switch events, it is possible to calculate the speed or number of parts. The counter can be reset simply by means of a unique IO-Link message.

Temperature:

The internal temperature of the sensor is measured continuously, which provides an indication about the ambient temperature in the application. Moreover, the maximum temperature measured will be saved. This is used to support diagnosis and preventive maintenance.

iNtervieW With klaus böhmerNeW seNior executive officerMr. Böhmer, looking back on your first six months with Contrinex, what have been the most important developments?

Contrinex sensors have an outstanding technical platform, based on highly complex ASICs that are developed in-house. With three new generations, all our main inductive and photoelectric sensor series are currently equipped for higher functionality. At the same time we are systematically expanding the product families. Our goal is to bring new sen-sors onto international markets every three months. We began doing this in September

2013, and are continuing the pace. It will allow our sales network to tackle significantly more applications with existing and new customers.

In this News Catalog, Contrinex presents sen-sor integration with the IO-Link communications protocol. What are the benefits of IO-Link for customers? What future developments does Contrinex expect with regard to IO-Link?

By its very nature, a sensor is located precisely where events take place. So actually, it’s a shame ‘only’ to query the switching state, be-cause much more data could be acquired from this exposed location. IO-Link allows additional information to be transmitted directly to the controller, for example the current temperature or highest historic temperature, the number

of state changes within a certain time, or a «health» diagnosis. Contrinex provides the customer with this increased functionality at no extra price. Our customers decide whether they want to use an individual sensor either conventionally or in IO-Link mode. So, with Contrinex, they’ve chosen a future-proof path, because even if IO-Link is used later, no changes will be required to the parts list or technical specifications.

IO-Link will gain in importance as IO-Link master prices fall on the controller side. With Contrinex, our customers are already making the right choice today.

What are the main goals for the next 10 years and how are they to be achieved?

Above all, we want to remain a leader in technology, with highly integrated ASICs at the core. Success achieved with inductive sensors will be transferred to photoelectric sensor series. These two cornerstones will be further strengthened by expanding our product range in the area of workplace safety and through intensive marketing of the already very complete RFID family. With the tags in particular, we have a clear advantage over most competitors and will exploit this. A major focus is our international distribution chan-nels. The key to success is knowing the markets and applications, being close to customers and having excellent worldwide logistics. Today, our inside is bigger than our outside. Tomorrow, we want the outside to match today’s inside.

On 26th April 2013, Contrinex officially inaugurated its new, high-tech produc-tion site in Budapest, Hungary. Mrs. Annette Heimlicher, CEO of the Contrinex Group, welcomed many international guests and distinguished speakers to this celebration, notably the Ambassador of Switzerland, Mr. Jean-François Paroz, and the Mayor of Újpest, Mr. Zsolt Wintermantel.

The founder and President of the Contrinex Group, Mr. Peter Heimlicher, em-phasized in his address the strategic importance of production in Hungary. Contrinex manufactures there for the global market according to strict Swiss quality standards. Expanded production capacities in Hungary therefore play a crucial role in the ongoing growth strategy of the Contrinex Group.

During a subsequent guided factory tour, guests expressed a keen interest in the plant’s state-of-the-art production and testing facilities.

Contrinex set up production activities in Hungary 18 years ago. The first factory – in just 40 m2 of rented space – provided employment for 5 people. The new production site comprises manufacturing and office space with a total area of 3000 m2 and employs over 150 staff.
