The New Beginnings program assists low income parents of young children with obtaining a high school diploma and improving parenting skills, and guides them to achieving economic self-sufficiency. Each year the Grand Haven Women’s Club takes up a collection for the New Beginnings program in the form of books, clothes, and money. This year the Grand Haven Women’s Club has donated three large bins of books, a $20 Barnes and Noble gift card, approximately 12 outfits, and a total of $600 in monetary

donations. With these donations, New Beginnings holds an an-nual Santa visit, with our very own Santa who hands out wrapped gifts of books and clothes to each New Beginnings child. The chil-dren take a photo with Santa and everyone enjoys a light snack. Donations are also used to purchase materials and supplies for New Beginnings classes to help support this worthwhile program. New Beginning’s would like to give a big Thank You to the Grand Haven Women’s Club for your kind donations.

Folk & line - American FavoritesAlthough line dancing is associated with country-western music and dance, it also has many similari-ties to folk dancing. Many folk dances are danced in unison with dancers arranged in one or more rows and often connected with the dancers next to them; while these rows are described as “lines,” they may curve, corner, or otherwise be nonlinear in the geo-metric sense. So if you don’t have a partner come join Suzie’s class.

how to Write a Book in 30 daysTo begin, we will discuss what defines a book and a little background on print and eBook formats. The class will learn how to finalize a topic, idea, working title and subtitle for their book. Then the class will learn how to line out chapters (non fiction) or scenes (fiction) for their book as the beginning of an out-line. We will work on developing a minimum of 10 chapters/scenes. Once the chapters/scenes are lined out with simple bullet point phrases, the class will learn how to break down the information into bullet point subheads which will be the backbone of their book. Once the outline is fleshed out, the instructor will use his experience in writing seven books as well as having published 17 books by various authors. He will be encouraging class attendees to make a mock-up of a cover for their book, as well, to help keep their motivation level up. The finished product will be an unedited, first-draft manuscript.

Kundalini yoga as taught by Fred Welter consists of a combination of these four practices. Eighteen months ago, I arrived at Belle Terre Swim & Racquet Club with my oxygen tank in tow. Over-weight, and ashamed I struggled to walk. On ar-rival I was greeted with Deen’s warm smile and a look of concern. Showing me patiently how to use the exercise machines, he outlined a simple fitness program to meet my needs (easy to say now). So my new journey into a healthier life began. I hardly noticed anyone else in the gym although there were many voices.

Unaware as yet of any real motivation to improve my health, I continued to go every day. Slowly my energy level improved. I began to lose weight. Despite feeling weak, depressed and embarrassed I progressed to the treadmill and to increase the weights. After six months, I required emergency surgery for additional health issues. I returned to the gym a few weeks later now fearful of sliding back into depression and ill health. My new life had just begun.

Eight months now without any oxygen! I wear a size six (down from a 2X)! I feel great! All it took for me was the smallest degree of willingness to ask for help, follow direction and simply show up. People from all walks of life, many parts of this country and the world, of various ages have found each other at BTSRC. I am honored to be among them. I had learned many things in the past 25 years being in re-covery from many things. I applied these tools of living to my physical health. Did I believe I could do this? No! Others believed in me until I could believe in myself.

My body, mind, and spirit have been renewed. I have a new sense of meaning and purpose. Going to the gym, seeing all my friends, and being able to live my life to the fullest is a joy. I am truly grateful. Thank you all for loving me back to health. I am grateful.

Synchronized swimming is not only beautiful but is a great way for your child to make friends, tone their entire body, and learn fun dance moves in the water. The Synchro Belles Team is a nationally ranked synchronized swimming team and 6 time State Champions. The only pre-requisite for the beginners level is to possess the ability to float on their backs and swim one length of the pool - above or under water. It is also helpful if the child has any dance, gymnastic, tumbling or swimming background, but these are not mandatory. Swim-mers not only learn to set and achieve athletic goals but also focus on maintaining high academic stan-dards. The Synchro Belles welcome your child to be a part of this growing sport.

North East Florida Dance

Academy

The Art of DanceIntroducing your child to the art of dance at a young age sets the scene for a future that includes creative movement, flexibility, physical fitness, performance skills, and cul-tural appreciation. With classes for children as young as two years old through teens and adults, the North East Florida Dance Academy (NEFDA), through the Flagler County Schools’ Adult and Community Edu-cation Department, offers a wide variety of dance genres to interest students of all ag-es. NEFDA is dedicated to providing classi-cal dance training with instructors who hold Bachelor’s Degrees in Education, teaching certificates from Dance Masters of America and Dance Educators of America, and who conduct classes with the utmost professionalism. Daily classes are offered year round in ballet, tap, and acrobatics at progressive levels. Children ages 2 to 3 ½ also have fun with Creative Dance, those ages 4 to 5 ½ may participate in a special Pre-School Dance class. As children get older they may join classes in jazz, musical theatre, lyrical, and hip hop styles of dance. Children 12 and older may advance to Bal-let on Pointe. Class fees are very reasonable and discounts are offered for multiple and combination classes.

Students enjoy the excitement of perform-ing at the annual end of year recital, and other dance performance experiences. En-courage your children in the arts and let them experience the joy of dance and performance.
