GILL NETTING PSA 2016 - This is a CCA video post

Most know about all of this but it is a good thing to look at it and share with everyone you know. The

Commercial Gillnetters and others involved in keeping gillnets on the Columbia River target people that

have no idea what is going on. People that don't know the damage need to be educated on what is really

going on. It isn't a move to no commercial harvest it is a move to harvest responsibly and selective

harvest.

This was commented on while listening to Outdoor GPS

recently.

Question if I'm trolling with a dropper how do I figure

out how much line to let out on my line counter reel.

This is based on a 45 degree angle and is accurate

within a foot or so. It is also affected by speeding up

etc. but if you can maintain a 45 degree angle your

close.

Multiple the depth by 1.41

Example: Want to run 25’:

25 X 1.41 = 35.25

You usually want to be inline with the fish or above

them. Supposedly fish won’t go down after a lure.

In a stern letter delivered Monday to the governor and commission, the coalition

threatens to withdraw support from the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife if a

revision to the Columbia River Plan is adopted.

It was signed by representatives of the Northwest Sportfishing Industry Association,

Association of Northwest Steelheaders, Coastal Conservation Association and the

Northwest Guides and Anglers Association.

It also reminds Brown anglers are the agency's major financial supporters and warns her

none of the suggestions from an unrelated legislative task force to improve the

department's funding will get traction if the Columbia plan is altered.

*From what I have read if accurate that funding by anglers is 60% of what ODFW receives.

Commercial Gillnetters, who get most of the representation, contribute 2%. A real

imbalance of fair representation for sure.

Bob Rees, executive director of the Association of Northwest Steelheaders, said "It's kind

of kindergarten mentality for sure...But we have to underscore we don't feel we're being

heard."

Headlines

Bob Rees will have information to discuss at the meeting. From what has been

sent out and heard ODFW and the Commission have decided to put off the

Columbia River Reform for another year.

Also what is interesting is Washington has apparently not been involved with this

decision. So how does Oregon decide for both states. If Washington stands their

ground and wants to continue with the plan as intended with no gillnets on the

Columbia River as of 2017 then what??

Oregon Considers Not Implementing Full Planned Columbia Fall Salmon

Reallocation In 2017

Planned Lower Columbia fall Chinook allocation reformations next year could be

put on hold and that’s raising alarm bells in the Sportfishing community.

Oregon fish managers are proposing not moving to an 80:20 recreational:

commercial split in 2017, as WDFW and ODFW had agreed to several years ago, and

instead want to continue with recent years’ split as well as continue gillnetting in

fall above the Lewis River.
