Guy talks about using lead ball on slider. Can't get down to really deep Kokanee.
The fish will come up after your lure. While jigging on Odell Lake in crystal clear
water I had Kokanee come up out of nowhere and hit the jig.

Recreation Report
09/05/2018 01:52 PM PDT
Highlights from this week’s Recreation Report:
Hunting season off to a dry start Hot, dry conditions have challenged early-season hunters. In addition to finding animals and approaching them successfully,
hunters also need to keep an eye on potential fire dangers. Be sure to check for road closures and other land use restrictions before heading out. You can find
links to the latest fire information on the MyODFW website - https://myodfw.com/articles/hunting-and-fire-danger-oregon
Take a friend hunting, and win a prize
For veteran hunters who want to pass on their passion for the outdoors, this is the year to take a friend hunting—and enter to win a prize for your efforts. ODFW
is hosting the 2018 Take a Friend Hunting Contest to encourage friends and family members to enjoy time together in the outdoors this year. See the rules,
eligibility requirements, and the list of prizes.
Shine up the binoculars and spotting scopes
Lots of animals are on the move in the late summer/early fall, making this a great time to watch wildlife. Check out the Oregon Wildlife Viewing Map for places to
go. In the meantime, here are just a couple of highlights from this week’s Recreation Report:
• The fall migration of shorebirds, waterfowl, songbirds, and ever-popular sandhill cranes is underway in Harney, Klamath and other counties.
• The elk rut in underway at Jewell Meadow Wildlife Area, and the bugling bulls offer a rare opportunity for wildlife “listening.”
• At the higher elevation lakes of the Cascades, thousands of newly metamorphosed western toads and other amphibians are hanging around the
shorelines eating bugs. In some cases, the numbers of these small creatures can be quite impressive, so tread carefully!
Best bets for weekend fishing
• Fall Chinook in the Columbia and Rogue rivers.
• Smallmouth bass and walleye on the upper Columbia.
• Sea-run cutthroat trout on the north coast.
• Trout fishing in Diamond Lake and Detroit Reservoir.
• Summer steelhead on the fly on the Clackamas and lower Deschutes rivers.
• And much more…. Check out this week’s reports.
Cody Herman did daily reports while fishing Buoy 10. He has been doing that
for a number of years. He gives tips on what worked and what didn’t work.
End of the season Cody did a video on what he has done transitioning from
Buoy 10 to up river below Bonneville Dam using Pro-Troll and Spinner and
other lures. Also, he is using Pro-Cure Fish Nip and adding some oil scents to
the Fish Nip to make it more pliable when adding it to Super baits. He said it
lasts way longer than canned Tuna in Oil.
Check out Cody’s YouTube reports and the one from Sept 6, 2018. He will be
releasing another report which will be his break down of the Buoy 10 season.
For many it was not good. Others that found fish did OK but it was tough for
all I believe. See what Cody has to say in his Sept 7 report.

Dwindling winter steelhead are on their own again at Willamette Falls - Bill Monroe Reports from ODFW keep saying 25% of the run is being ate by Sea Lions. I think that estimate is way under what is actually being ate. Cody Herman while Co-host of Outdoor GPS did a count of Sea Lions, how many Spring Chinook are eating per day, number of days per Sea Lion, estimated run size and came up with 40%. That was a number of years ago and now there are 17 Sea Lions that never leave the Willamette Falls area. Another thing the wild Winter Steelhead are the only fish going through the fish ladder this time of year. So, you know what the resident Sea Lions are eating. http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/bill_monroe/index.ssf/2017/12/dwindling_winter_steelhead_are.html -Great Video for people getting gear ready for Winter Steelhead!
