Making a differenceannual results consistently place the OakvilleTerry Fox Run among the top 20 revenue runsin Ontario.

Those present also heard from cancer survi-vor David Visschedyk who credited Robinsonand people like him with keeping Fox’s memoryalive by making sure children and new Canadiansknow who Fox was and what he did.

Visschedyk also noted the Terry Fox Runfunds cancer research, the importance of whichcan never be overstated.

“When I was 8 years old I lost my leg to can-cer, actually the same type of cancer Terry Foxhad. When Terry had his cancer about 50 percent of people with that type cancer survived. Ihad my cancer not that long after, less than 10years later, and at that time 75 per cent of thepeople with that cancer survived. Now it’s over90 per cent,” said Fishdike.

“It’s because of people who raise money forthe Terry Fox Run that these great strides havehappened.”

Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn brought with himthe recognition and well wishes of the premierfor Robinson’s work, which was followed up byOakville Mayor Rob Burton who issued an offi-cial proclamation of appreciation and recogni-tion to Robinson.

“I am pleased to pay tribute to an outstand-ing humanitarian,” said Burton.

“Ralph Robinson is the longest continuously

serving member of council in Oakville and has also been chair of the Oakville Terry Fox Run for 25 year. They say it only takes one person to make a difference. Terry Fox made a difference to his community and so has Ralph Robinson.”

Robinson received more than one standing ovation during the presentation, all of which he took in stride.

“I am honoured to have been involved with both the Town of Oakville and the Oakville Terry Fox Run for so many years,” said Robinson in a press release.

“I truly enjoy serving my community and giving back to worthwhile causes like the Terry Fox Run.”
