New building bringsstores of space
Due to high demand for storage and quick
retrieval of raw materials for production
ASECO has completed the construction of
a new stores building.
The new site has well planned pallet
racking and rack supported mezzanine
systems, including pigeon holes. Each of
these pigeon holes will be equipped with
plastic bins to make sure all the items are
clearly marked.
The new stores building incorporates a
Receipt Area, Inspection Area, Rejection
Area, Red tag Area and Empty Bins Area to
avoid confusion.
As space was at a premium ASECO
decided to utilise the height of the build-
ing for added storage space.
Also in the steel yard ASECO has
ordered a Gantry Crane which has a 32
ton-capacity, with a span of 30 metres.
and length of travel 130 metres. The
height under the hook will be 8.5 metres,
which will help in storing steel items in a
proper systematic way.
The new stores building willprove vital for improved production facilities.
Value engineeringEven inspite of price hikes in
the market for steel we have
always tried to maintain the
price for our customers by
introducing new welding, cut-
ting & fabrication technolo-
gies in our company for e.g –
usage of costly Hardox plates
in rock tipper was cut down
by having a better & efficient
plate layout in the plate pro-
cessing section" an idea
inspired and implemented by
S.P.Velmurugan, thereby
reducing labour hours, simpli-
fied material handling, elimi-
nated shearing & heating and
minimized welding process.
Congratulations to SPV for his
valuable contribution.

ASECO World talks to Assistant SafetyManager G.V. Bharath Kumar
The first Quarter of this calendar year has been
dedicated to three re-certification Audits. These
were for ISO, American Society of Mechanical
Engineers (ASME) and Schlumberger.
The focus of ISO 9001, 14001 & 18001 is on
the compliance of a Quality Management
System for the environment, OHSAS health,
safety, quality policy and procedures.
ASME tests ASECO on design calculations,
material certifications, traceability, testing and
records for oilfield pressure vessels.
ASECO client Schlumberger checks the capa-
bility in terms of organisation, functions and
systems for existing as well as future process
requirements.
Audit teams were impressed by ASECO for
its efforts in Lean Manufacturing
Implementation with the use of tools like ERP,
teamwork, 5S,waste elimination, layouts, visu-
al management, tact time, TPM, built in quali-
ty, short lead time, new production launches
and quality Circles.
ASECO also thanked the Auditors for their
valuable suggestions to improve work instruc-
tions, facilities and capabilities, including
Stainless Steel, Alloy Steels and Aluminium.
These recommendations will go a long way in
stretching ASECO to meet increasingly strin-
gent global requirements.
ASECO was successfully re-certified for all
the above requirements. This is a fine example
of teamwork amongst all the functions and for
all of at ASECO to be proud.
The audit work was successfully handled by
P.Kumanan, Nasir Patel,
S.M.Rajan, Kalyan Shelke,
Rajeev Sharma, Alpesh
Desai and G.V. Bharath
Kumar.
Quality hat-trick for ASECO Nasir’s workreaps bigrewards
Nasir Patel, Assistant Manager
Production, has developed a computer
programme in Visual Basic to help with
Material Requirement Data.
And the programme has proved so
successful it is now being used at
ASECO.
On entering or updating a required
delivery date for a job, target dates for
components and processes to be com-
pleted at various locations are auto-
matically generated.
The same can be done on revising
the actual receipt date for a particular
process. In this case the system pro-
vides the revised job delivery schedule.
This initiative is improving job plan-
ning and schedules achievement as
well as team work between various
functions. It is also reducing unneces-
sary inventory time and space.

Star performers we are proud of you
The ASECO Premier League cricket series has been played in very friendly and
sportsman-like conditions, allowing staff and workmen to mingle amongst all
Cricket enthusiasts. And, it will also provide much needed practice for the
tournaments when the new season starts.
The 16-overs-a-side matches take place between the workmen and mem-
bers of staff from ASECO. The whole competition is organised by Mansoor Ali,
with the workmen’s team led by Shanker, and the Staff team led by Nasir.
