Global Convention on Business Excellence organized at Burj Al Arab on May 01 & 2, 2013

Dubai, May 05, 2013 Global Convention on Business Excellence was organized by Institute of Directors-India in association with Dubai Quality Group at Burj Al Arab on MAY 01 &2, 2013 with a theme – Business Excellence – Key to Achieving World Class Performance

H.H.Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan , UAE Minister of Culture , Youth and Community Development emphasized that Businesses must be innovative and entrepreneurial about people and their communities just as they are about profits. “ I am imagining biggest social entrepreneur as a hugely exciting and promising element of a truly successful business “ He also appreciated the role being played by Dubai Quality Group and IOD for their efforts .

The opening address at the Global Convention was made by DQG Vice Chairman , Dr Abdul Rahman Al Muaini thanked DQG patron H.H.Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum , President of Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman & CEO of Emirates Airline and conveyed the greetings from DQG Chairman Dr Yousef Al Akraf and all other DQG Board members and highlighted strong relationship of DQG and IOD India as Global Partners since 2011 . He also shared with global delegates that UAE has been hailed as most Innovation driven Arab country as per Global Competitiveness Report issued by World Economic Forum.

The Global Convention on Business Excellence was inaugurated by Mr. Ajit Singh , Minister of Civil Aviation , Govt of India and Mr. Lokesh M Kapanaiah , India’s ambassador to UAE , Mr. Hani R.Al Hamli , Secretary General of Dubai Economic Council, Lt Gen J.S.Ahluwalia, President of IOD and DQG Vice Chairman, Dr Abdul Rahman Al Muaini.


The Day 1 proceedings included presentations from a galaxy of speakers and global specialists from UAE , UK , India and Mauritius among others. H.E. Mr Sanjay Verma , Consul General of India in Dubai chaired the first session alongwith Mr Sunil Misser , Prof Colin Coulson Thomas and Mr Ramanan.

The next session was chaired by Mr Mohammed Yusuf from Pakistan and addressed by Mr Mohammed Ali Al Kamali , Director at Dubai Export Market Development , Dubai Economic Department ,Mr Ajay Poddar , Mr S.C.Mohanty and Mr Pankaj Phatarphod.


The Plenary session 4 discussed Business Excellence Models in UAE and was chaired by Dr Kanak Madrecha , an eminent Jury member of Dubai Quality & Other Awards , Ms Samira Shaloh from Security World . Mr. Sunil Bahri , Secretary General of Dubai Quality Group made a presentation titled – Global Competitiveness and Business Excellence …UAE Model and was appreciated by all present as it essayed the journey of UAE from 1994 and how UAE has achieved Global Rank no 24 as compared to no 32 in 2006 with the help of Business Excellence model.

The highlight of this session was release of a Book – Localising the GCC Workforce by Dr Jasim Al Ali by the President of IOD. Best Practices – Global Business Excellence – By Golden Peacock Award winners 2013 The Plenary Session 5 was chaired by Mr Pradeep Chaturvedi , Vice President of Institute of Directors and included case studies presentation by various companies from India , Oman , Singapore and UAE.


Mr. Saleh Janeeh, Past Chairman, Dubai Quality Group chaired the plenary session 6 on second day addressed by Arvind Jadhav, IAS, Mr. Rohit Adya and Dr Gopinathan.

The second session of the Day 2 was chaired by Mr. Anand Bardhan , IAS , Counseller Community Affairs in Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi , Dr Zeyad Mohammed Al Kahlout , DGEP, Govt of Dubai , Mr. SPS Bakshi , EPI , Dr Ajit Nagpal , Amity University , Mr BG Shenoy , FES , Singapore

The third session on the May 02, 2013 was addressed by Mr Sanjay Anand, Chairman, GRC Institute – USA, Mr Mahesh Krishnamurti, Mr Vivek Mohan and Mr Jon Long, ICC – Dubai.


GOLDEN PEACOCK AWARDS CEREMONY On Second day of the Global Convention the famed Golden Peacock Awards were declared by IOD Council, India and were distributed by H.E. Hon.Cader Sayed-Hossen, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Products, Republic of Mauritius. The opening address for the Awards ceremony was delivered by Mr G.R.Mehta, Chairman of IOD – Middle East & Africa Chapter newly established and he welcomed the Chief Guest and announced the formation of the chapter and introduced Mr Sunil Bahri as Hony Secretary General of IOD- Middle East & Africa Chapter.

It is a matter of great pride that IOD Distinguished Fellowship Awards were conferred by H.E. Hon.Cader Sayed-Hossen, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Consumer Products, Republic of Mauritius and ONGC Chairman – Sudhir Vasudeva and IOD President – Lt Gen J.S.Ahluwalia on Leading Dubai Businessmen namely :

A. Mr. Abdulla J M Kalban , President & Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Aluminum , DQG’s Investor Partner for his contribution to transform DUBAL to a Global Giant and an organization to be benchmarked with all over the world .

B. Mr. Mishal Kanoo , Deputy Chairman of The Kanoo Group , DQG ‘s Investor Partner for his

contribution to making The Kanoo Group , one of the largest independent , family owned group of


companies in the Gulf Region. The award was received by Mr. Fahd Kanoo , Director on behalf of Mr. Mishal Kanoo .

C. Mr. Mohan G . Valrani , Sr Vice Chairman & MD , Al Shirawi Group , UAE , Dubai

Quality Group’s Corporate Partner for his contribution in making Al Shirawi Group as one of the most diversified group of companies in Dubai , UAE. The award was received by Mr. Sunder Ramchandani , Technical Director , Al Shirawi Group.

D. Mr. Hussain Abdulla Al Shafar , Chairman of Al Shafar Holding a diversified and respectable diversified group in Dubai . Mr. Shafar was elected as a Federal National Council ( FNC )member in 2007 and is currently a Judge of Dubai Rent Committee . Al Shafar Holding has agreed to become a member of Dubai Quality Group .


The Golden Peacock Awards were distributed for Business Excellence in various sectors on companies from India , QBG Services – UAE & GES –Singapore .

The Global Convention on Business Excellence 2013 was attended by 150+ delegates from all over the world and covered extensively in global press. The Awards concluded with an inspiring address by H.E. Hon.Cader Sayed-Hossen , Minister of Industry , Commerce and Consumer Products , Republic of Mauritius .


One of the major highlight of the Dubai Global Convention was the participation of a strong delegation from Oman & Mauritius and Insha Allah the next program may be held in Mauritius.
