A broad term, navicular disease causes radiographic changes in the navicular bone of a horse, causing chronic, severe, progressive caudal heel pain in the forelimbs. The
cause of these issues is still being researched, but genetics does play a significant role (Hilla, D. et al, 2014).
Clinical Symptoms
-Short, choppy gait & stumbling-Toe-first landing-Increased digital pulse-Pain that is more severe with work-Contracted hooves-Intermittent lameness
