Profile News

They will design, manufacture and install for just about any metal manufacturing requirements, including site welding and fabrication. Sable Engineering are an innovative business that offers customer solutions that are “outside the box”.

Sable Engineering is owned by Richard Campbell, an engineer with over 40 years experience. Originally from South Africa, Richard set up Sable Engineering in 2006 in Silverdale, Auckland. They specialise in all welding and fabrication type work, including aluminium. With many other large projects to his name, Richard has just completed his second aluminium shoring (pictured) for March Cato, an Auckland based civil engineering construction company. Shoring is used in trenches to provide a safe working environment for the workers.

Aluminium was chosen for this particular shoring as it is a lot lighter than steel, meaning the shoring length has been extended from 6 metres to just over 12 metres, but the overall weight at 5 tonnes stays similar to the shorter steel version.

is still around quarter four this year. We are all looking forward to utilising the extra space to its full potential. Watch this space as to how we fill it up!

Our Routers are again flat out with machining time at a premium. The Team are running extended hours to keep up with expected delivery times. Talk to your local Account Manager if you are looking for a complete “in house” machining solution.

T&G’s 60 Year CelebrationTo help put Transport and General Engineering Ltd (T&G) into perspective, they’ve been around since the Alcan days and as of 2015 that makes 60 years for them. To commemorate this 60 years milestone Coralie Savill and her husband were invited to the black tie Jubilee Celebration.

T&G’s ‘Mission Statement’ helps provide an understanding and ultimately sums up what they’re all about; “To invest in key people and develop innovation through research, ensure a dedicated approach to fostering strong relationships with Customers and supply partners, and to contribute to the ongoing improvement of the transport trailer product and our industry as a whole.”

NALCO supplies a substantial amount of aluminium to T&G each month and has done so for a number of years. T&G is a very valuable customer of NALCO and is a very

Welcome to NALCO Profile News. It’s mid winter 2015. It’s hard to believe we are closer to Christmas 2015-16 than the one just

gone. Someone just told me it’s only 20 week’s until Christmas! That means 30 have already been and gone. Looking back on the year so far it’s fair to say that it has been a game of two halves. The first quarter was extremely busy with the second quarter being a little flat. The good news is that the third quarter is shaping up well perhaps with the exception of the dairy sector for the reasons we hear a lot about in the press. The falling dollar is a bonus for our exporters even though it pushes prices up for imported rolled products. This has been offset to some degree by the falling

respectable organisation, having been around for 60 years it is clear that they are extremely good at what they do and they portray themselves at a very high and professional level. T&G conducts their manufacturing in the Waikato region but maintains a presence throughout New Zealand with service providers spread throughout, from Auckland to Canterbury whilst also covering areas such as Hawke’s Bay and Nelson. Having these numerous service providers allows them to offer a nationwide service.

commodity price of aluminium on the world market (LME). The net effect in New Zealand is an increased cost of these imported products which doesn’t do any favours to the local economy. The Economists are guessing where it will end up, however indications are that interest rates may drop again later in the year.

As we go to press, it’s good news that the Aluminium Smelter at Tiwai Point is to continue until at least 2030. With our aluminium billet all coming from Tiwai we are pleased not only for the supply chain, but also the Southland economy. Many people will be relieved that their jobs are secure and they can get on with growing their future.

Those of you who have been past our Hamilton Mill site will have noticed much progress on the building extension project. The construction is only a little behind schedule however completion of the project

NALCO Update

Page 3: NALCO.CO.NZ Shoring, a Sure Thing · however completion of the project NALCO Update. Cube Innovations provides portable buildings to the commercial and industrial sectors, their cubes

Cube Innovations provides portable buildings to the commercial and industrial sectors, their cubes have proved invaluable for the NALCO Hamilton Mill during its monumental facility revamp.

Their framing of portable cubes was, in the past, steel. They have since changed a lot of their framing to aluminium, which provides a reduction in the buildings weight and increases their manufacturing efficiencies. High strength components are used at all extremities of the Cube, they are extremely damage resistant. This is a big plus with the regular craning and relocation of temporary facilities and importantly corrosion is virtually eliminated, there is also no welded or painted steel. This all provides logistical advantages for

transportation.

Cube Innovations offer a variety of sizes, with a maximum width of 12m. The Dreamcube range offers the new on trend design “Funkie”, the “Dreamcube Stacker” which reduces footprint on confined sites allowing for two story configuration, then the “Dreamcube sidebyside” modules of 3.1m deep can be placed alongside each other to create open plan space of 200, 300, 400m2 or more providing real flexibility to their clients.

Cube Innovations have had their cubes used throughout the country by various organisations, demonstrating their diverse ability to withstand New Zealand’s various weather conditions.

NALCO were part of the Variety Bash in support of Aluminium Artistry Ltd. Working together to help out less fortunate children.

NALCO is a proud sponsor of the Waikato Institute of Technology’s (Wintec) competition that was held during the middle of April. The event saw over 100 competitors across seven nations all competing.

WorldSkills is an international competition for talented young people and an opportunity to prove themselves as one of the best in their relevant skill areas against a number of other very talented candidates. The opportunity grants them the ability to win titles in their area of interest, their countries, and, of course, for themselves. The skill areas can range from; plumbing and heating, to web design and welding.

NALCO, Proudly Supporting Variety Bash

The New Zealand team managed to obtain a total of 18 medals; 2x Bronze, 8x Silver, and an oustanding 8x Gold’s at April’s competition

NALCO sponsored the supply of aluminium for the event and one of the Gold Medal receivers is an employee of one of NALCO’s customers. Congratulations to Michael Benson on his Gold Medal for Sheet Metal Technology.

WorldSkills had this to say:

“..a big THANK YOU to all the Organisations which provided materials and equipment, and gave their time to ensure we had the infrastructure in place to run the competition.”

WorldSkills Oceania 2015

“Each year Variety - The Children’s Charity connects with more than 10,000 Kiwi Kids, their families and communities. Since 1989 Variety has given over $12 million to help sick, disabled and disadvantaged children. From much-needed medical equipment, to life-changing mobility needs, to innovative educational initiatives...”

“At the heart of Variety’s fundraising is the unique Variety Bash - a quirky car rally which travels hundreds of kilometres during one week each year fundraising for Kiwi kids, distributing grants, entertaining children and telling the Variety story. It’s a mad-cap adventure full of eccentric vehicles, larger-than-life characters and heart-felt philanthropy.”
