WESTERN REGIONAL JOINT SUMMER MEETING

What is the WRJSM?• An annual meeting bringing together western region

land grant universities:

Academic Program Directors Administrative Heads Section Council for Ag Research, Extension, & Teaching (CARET) Experiment Station Directors Extension Directors

What is the purpose of this year’s WRJSM?• Establish a western agenda that builds strength and

unity on five broad issues important to western states• Improve the ability of the land grant university system

to address these issues• Advocate with one voice for funds to enhance land

grant universities’ (LGU’s) capacity to fulfill their roles in research, education, and extension related to western priorities, and to better inform public policy.

The most developed of 5 key issues is: Natural Resources Management (NRM)

and under this issue the most important topics identified thus far are:

the agenda for the western LGU’s capacity to address key issues important to western states

What would you be doing at the WRJSM?• Attend/participate in plenary sessions

NACo is invited to deliver plenary presentation on their perspective on land-grant priorities

• Contribute to breakout sessions by priorities• Contribute to breakout session by mission

(teaching, research, & extension)• Contribute to strategy discussions on how to

pursue agenda (with Cornerstone) as it is formulated

What can you expect to take home?• Information on western LGU’s capacity and priorities• Establish a line of communication

How LGU’s can address issues critical to NACo-WIR NACo to better inform the future direction of western LGU priorities
