Who should apply: People who are or have been UnionAID supporters or donors are welcomed to apply as are people within the union movement or those with a strong interest in worker rights and development issues. There is an expectation that participants will be activists for UnionAID upon return; helping to raise awareness and supporting fundraising. UnionAID will select participants based on these criteria.

UnionAID has been supporting workers and communities in Myanmar for more than five years and this study tour is an opportunity for donors and supporters to visit the projects and meet the people involved.

You will learn about the struggle to establish labour rights for workers under the military rule, the sacrifices made by activists in the union movement and their recent successes.

Participants will meet leaders and activists in Myanmar’s democracy movement and learn about what’s ahead for the country after last year’s elections. There will be time to talk to alumni of our Myanmar Young Leaders Programme, to hear examples of the important work they are doing to promote democracy and development in their communities.
