Welcome to the Spring Term at Uppingham Music and to our new Diary of Events

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – the man with the ‘inexhaustible gift’. We begin the new term of events at Uppingham with two concerts celebrating the visionary young composer, including Symphony Orchestra’s realisation of his penultimate symphony, the “Great G minor”, No. 40.

Our Sunday masterclass series continues, with three exceptional visiting artists coaching Uppingham students in open and free-to-attend sessions throughout the term. We are also thrilled to herald the return of two favourite Spring Term events – our Jazz Orchestra: Cocktails, Canapés and Cabaret evening, and an A Cappella Extravaganza, featuring the winners of BBC 2’s The Choir : Gareth’s Best in Britain, Semi-Toned; a twelve-piece close harmony group fresh from a five-star hit show at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Be it Wolfgang, or an evening of wit and wondrous harmonies, I hope to welcome you soon to one of our music events.

Michael Phillips Music Events and Publicity Manager

Lunchtime concerts take place in Uppingham Parish Church at 1.20pm every Wednesday during term time. Free admission to all lunchtime concerts.

Admission to evening concerts is free unless otherwise stated.

Fauré Masques et Bergamasques

Bruch Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26

Mozart Symphony No. 40 in G minor

Anson Poon ViolinAndrew Webster Conductor

The ever-versatile Uppingham School Symphony Orchestra showcase three uniquely colourful works from across three centuries. Beginning with the eighteenth-century musings of a

twentieth-century composer, Fauré’s Masques et Bergamasques suite is a vibrant homage to the world of the fête galante. Upper Sixth Music Scholar, and winner of Uppingham’s Recital

Competition Anson Poon will then perform Max Bruch’s most famous composition, his first Violin Concerto in G minor – a work vivid with technicolour fireworks.

The incomparable Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart brings the evening to a close, with his Great G minor Symphony, No. 40. One of a handful of Mozart’s works to capture the romantic

imagination, the force of its tragic power and emotional complexity inspired some of the greatest art through the nineteenth century.
