(Observations from Philp Yancey, in his book “Vanishing grace”) Our College moo is Excel with Grace. But what is Gods grace? My simplified definion is: God’s grace is God’s undeserved love for me. God invites each of us to experience His love and, in response, share that with others. When Jesus was asked what is the most important thing His answer was, “love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind and love your neighbor as you love yourself”. (Mahew 22:37-39) In the bible, the book of Hebrews (chapter 12 verse 15) gives direcon to those who have responded to Gods love to “see that no one misses the grace of God”. Gods mission to His people is to dispense grace to a world thirsty for it. “It strikes me as genuinely good news that we are creations of a loving God who wants us to thrive, not random byproducts of a meaningless universe. Though God entered our world and demonstrated in person that nothing – not even death- can separate us from God’s love. That the story of Jesus has this main theme: “For God so loved the world that he gave …” That human existence will not end with the imminent warming of our atmosphere or the gradual cooling of our sun, and my particular destiny will not end with death. That God will balance the scales of human history not by karma but by grace, in such a way that no one will be able to accuse God of unfairness.” (Philip Yancey) There was a survey completed in the United States asking, what words would you most like to hear?I think if a similar survey was held in our community, the answers would be very similar to their results. The first choice was: I love you’, the second was I forgive you’. However, the third choice took the researcher by surprise, - Suppers ready!Philip Yancey makes the same observaon as the survey author did – that these responses provide a neat summary of the gospel story – the good news about Gods love. The good news is: we are loved by God, forgiven by God, and invited to God’s banquet table. His table is a place of sufficiency, strength and supply. There is opportunity for all of us to enjoy Gods benefits now and there will be even more for us in heaven. I enjoy the present and cant wait for the future. I pray that this is also your experience. (Observations from Philp Yancey in his book ldquoVanishing gracerdquo)

Our College motto is Excel with Grace But what is Godrsquos grace My simplified definition is

Godrsquos grace is Godrsquos undeserved love for me

God invites each of us to experience His love and in response share that with others When Jesus was asked what

is the most important thing His answer was ldquolove the Lord your God with all your heart soul and mind and love your neighbor as you love yourselfrdquo (Matthew 2237-39)

In the bible the book of Hebrews (chapter 12 verse 15) gives

direction to those who have responded to Gods love to ldquosee that no one misses the grace of Godrdquo Godrsquos

mission to His people is to dispense grace to a world thirsty for it

ldquoIt strikes me as genuinely good news that we are

creations of a loving God who wants us to thrive

not random byproducts of a meaningless universe

Though God entered our world and demonstrated

in person that nothing ndash not even death- can

separate us from Godrsquos love That the story of Jesus

has this main theme ldquoFor God so loved the world that he gave helliprdquo That human existence will

not end with the imminent warming of our

atmosphere or the gradual cooling of our sun and

my particular destiny will not end with death That

God will balance the scales of human history not by

karma but by grace in such a way that no one will

be able to accuse God of unfairnessrdquo (Philip Yancey)

There was a survey completed in the United States asking ldquowhat words would you most like to hearrdquo I think if a similar survey was held in our community the answers would be very similar to their results

The first choice was lsquoI love yoursquo the second was lsquoI forgive yoursquo However the third choice took the researcher by surprise - lsquoSupperrsquos readyrsquo

Philip Yancey makes the same observation as the survey author did ndash that these responses provide a neat summary of the gospel story ndash the good news about Godrsquos love

The good news is

we are loved by God

forgiven by God and

invited to Godrsquos banquet table His

table is a place of sufficiency

strength and supply

There is opportunity for all of us to enjoy Godrsquos benefits now and there will be even more for us in heaven I enjoy the present and canrsquot wait for the future I pray that this is also your experience

Hello everyone

Just an update of what has been happening with

the girls in term 3 with the Chappy

We have commenced a Shine programme which is a

unique personal development mentoring tool that

uses an inspirational practical and experiential ap-

proach to learning It is based on the fact that

every life counts and makes the girls aware of this

belief with knowledge and skills to become effective

global citizens for the future They will discover

who they are and the person they want to be-

come As many young people in our communities do

not know or believe that they are valuable and

unique individuals and most struggle to find ac-

ceptance amongst their peers and genuine meaning

for their lifehellipthe programme helps them with keys

to navigate these areas SHINEGIRL normally goes

for 9 weeks but our weekly sessions are scaled

down for introductory purposes to 5 weeks I am

sure SHINEGIRL will develop further as time goes on

The core characteristics that we are touching on

this term are Value Worth Strength Choice and

Purpose So far the groups have been good and as

we all work together parents teachers and welfare

staff we will be building attributes that will help our

girls through school life and into their future to be-

come strong and have courage within themselves to

make healthy choices in life and rise to their full

potential

Happy Learning

Great news - we have been awarded a 2 year federally funded opportunity as a Community Hub This is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our great community The Hub will not just be for the benefit of SMC families but is open to all people from the local area

A Community Hub has the following characteristics

The Community hub is to be a safe and welcoming place

The intent of the Hub is to develop a strong inclusive community for parents especially mums with children aged 0-5

Refugee and migrant families are the key beneficiaries of the opportunities ndash it is designed to help those families assimilate into their lsquonewrsquo country

The program is to primarily benefit the young children AND their mothers

Through Hubs the clear intent is young children will become engaged in learning and that early needs are identified We expect intakes into our Kindy

Hubs are likely to be a referral point to a range of community services eg counselling therapy support financial advice

Each Hub may offer different programs As a minimum Hubs will offer

English classes

Language development opportunities

Playgroups

What next - career advice and support for mothers once their children are all at school

So that Mums can fully participate free child minding is expected with programs offered (Volunteers and community funding are therefore needed to help make this service possible )

The federal money will enable us to employ a person to coordinate the programs The Coordinator will be a link between the college and the community Relational skills are essential as well as having an understanding of the range of cultures that we connect with and will additionally connect with

If you know someone who could fill this role please invite them to make prompt contact with the college Ii is my hope that we can soon announce the appointment of a paid Hub Coordinator

Thank you for praying about and working towards a great community hub

Photography and Drawing Competition Achievement Awards (IMPACT)

For the third year in a row in week 1 of Term 3 Staines Memorial College Year 12 students were able to bless the Warwick Christian College by doing service activities around the school grounds Our first trip to the college as Grade 10 students in 2015 was met with caution by the Warwick community thinking our students were just out for a holiday We soon proved that our students were prepared to work hard as well as have fun Since 2015 they have welcomed us back each year with great enthusiasm and appreciation for the work we have done for the college This year 14 Year 12rsquos made the trip to Warwick in the middle of Winter Two students even braved the cold by swimming (briefly) in the schools unheated 25 metre pool Students were able to contribute to the effective running of the college by weeding gardens painting steps with the regulation yellow safety strip removing and dismantling of unwanted furniture and lots of mowing We also cut up and burnt a large gum tree Great bonfire material

As the Year 12 Co-ordinator it has been a real blessing to see this service project become a reality from its inception in 2015 It stemmed from the Cooktown outreach the previous year which saw a small number of students travel to the CCM school in Cooktown to bless that community with service projects The idea of travelling to Warwick to do the same thing but with a very much cheaper cost to students came from this outreach Warwick Christian College was ideally suited to these projects having well equipped dormitories and a commercial kitchen with a very experienced on-site cook who is also the Property Service Manager Being a new school on a very large campus this seemed to be the perfect way of blessing The Warwick Christian College As the Year 12 group finish at the end of the year hopefully blessed by their Warwick experiences I am hopeful that the

legacy of helping other schools who are not as well-resourced as Staines will be something that continues into the future I

believe it was a win for the students who had fun while learning to serve others I enjoyed the experience as the co-ordinator

although I was exhausted at the end of the 4 days Warwick Christian College staff were very blessed by the support we have

been able to offer them over the 3 years this program has been run

Mr Sands Principal
