Wring Number
Let’s Bridge The Gap Performance Fred Reid, much loved for many years by schools all over Australia for his one man show and the Maluerindi Clan
workshops, is back! Fred comes from the Dainga:e tribe of North Western NSW. Fred was separated from his
family in the mid 1960’s. His mission is to bring about a be=er understanding of Aboriginal people and their
culture. Fred with the help of one or more of his children, delivers his message in a fun, posi.ve way. His deep
respect and knowledge of culture, along with his gentle, humorous rapport with students, make for a very
enriching experience.
The performance is tailored to the age group of the audience and par.cipa.on is greatly encouraged in all
programmes. All sessions begin with an acknowledgement and welcome dance and conclude with ques.on .me.
Department of Educa*on Assessment
The presenta.on of Aboriginal culture by Fred Reid is excellent value. He varies his presenta.on for different age
groups. He covers music and musical instruments, male and female artefacts, stories of the Dream.me, pain.ng
and body art. Aspects of tradi.onal culture are woven throughout - clans, sacred rituals and laws governing male
and female roles. An impressive show.

NEWSLETTER
Dear Parents and Friends,
It gives me immense pleasure to provide you with
a brief snapshot of results from our Discipline
Audit, conducted last week. The state wide audit
process has been rolling out across schools for
over twelve months now. The audit measures
schools across five broad areas including
Leadership, Parent and Community Engagement,
Data Informed Decision Making, Clear Consistent
Expecta.ons for Behaviour, and Explicit Teaching
of Appropriate Behaviour to all Students.
Our results sit predominantly in the ‘HIGH’ range
with some areas reaching ‘OUTSTANDING’ level.
(Mount Morgan Central received no ‘Medium’ or
‘Low’ ra.ngs). To be recognised in this manner is
most encouraging and is reward for the
excep.onal work of our school staff in
partnership with parents over many, many years.
A copy of the five page profile will be available on
the school’s website shortly.
Congratula.ons to students who received awards
at last week’s NAIDOC School celebra.ons. The
occasion was a wonderful opportunity to
recognise and celebrate indigenous culture
throughout the school. Student awards were
based upon strict criteria which included
consistent a=endance and Responsible, Safe and
RespecIul school behaviours.
Finally, we wish our Netball and Rugby League
Teams all the best for upcoming semi-finals and
finals.
Have a great fortnight.

Sports Report
Rugby League
The Senior League Team played their major semi-final
against Rocky Grammar on Friday. Unfortunately they
were too strong on the day and beat us 28 - 12. Brayden
Wilkes-Hayden and Montell Oram were named our
players of the match. We now play the minor semi on
Friday and a win will see us progress to the grand final.
Soccer
On Friday 1st August both the Seniors and the Juniors
played St Paul’s Gracemere on their home ground. The
Juniors once again played a hard game but unfortunately
we were unable to come away with the win. Our man of
the match with some outstanding defence was Sam
Pridemore and the encouragement award went to Josh
Masters. Our Juniors then ran on to support our Seniors
and helped them to a great win with the score line 3 - 2.
Man of the match was Ronan Holohan and the
encouragement award went to Charlene Creamer for her
great defence.
On Friday 8th August our Juniors and Seniors both played
Mt Archer at Pilbeam Park. Mt Archer proved too strong
for our Juniors with the score line 2 - 1. The team played
so well that the man of the match and the
encouragement award went to all players. Once again
our .red Juniors ran on to assist the Seniors in their
game but courageous as they were, Mt Archer scored
the winning goal in the dying stages of the match. Once
again the man of the match and the encouragement
award had to go to the whole team. Well done to all
players throughout our soccer season and a special
thankyou to Mr Callaghan for his support each week.
Netball
On Friday Midgets Red played Berserker
Green. Unfortunately we didn’t come away with a win,
however the team played well and are improving.
3 points went to Raelene Alley, 2 points went to Storm
Simpson & 1 point went to Claire Noonan.
On Friday Midgets Black played Gracemere Blue.
It was a tough game against a good team and
we were unable to take the win.
3 points went to Ruby Royes, 2 points went to Miriam
Kemp & 1 point went to Delta Polizzi.

Every Day Counts Please ensure your child is here at school every day. Our
goal is to have all students a=ending 95% of the .me! Even
occasional days off will have a nega.ve impact upon learn-
ing and achievement. Educa.on Queensland’s Every Day
Counts policy promotes four key points:
• All children should be enrolled at school and a=end
on every school day.
• Schools should monitor, communicate and imple-
ment strategies to improve regular a=endance.
• Truan.ng can place a student in unsafe situa.ons
and impact on their future employability and life
choices.
• A=endance at school is the responsibility of every-
one in the community.
We are very glad that our school community understands
the importance of these messages.
Have you read
with your child today????
They’re Back… Head lice are common in children and are the most
adaptable of creatures. They have survived living solely on
human heads for 10,000 years.
Some of the reasons they have survived for as long as they
have are:
The six legs of a louse end in a claw, allowing them to grip
the hair.
They detect vibra.on and can hide - (condi.oner will help
fix this problem)
Head lice can ‘hold’ their breath for 20 mins – looking like
they are dead.
The eggs are a=ached to the hair with a ‘glue’ like
substance. Studies conducted on 45 different products to
dissolve the ‘glue’ showed nothing would dissolve it.
The good news…
We know where they live and we know how to find them.
If you follow these steps, once a week, the control of head
lice in your home will be greatly improved.
Step1 Comb inexpensive hair condi.oner on to dry,
brushed (detangled) hair. This makes it difficult for lice to
grip the hair or run around;
Step 2 Wipe the condi.oner from the comb onto a paper
towel or .ssue;
Step 3 Look on the .ssue and on the comb for lice and
eggs;
Step 4 If lice or eggs are found, the child should be treated;
Step 5 If the child has been treated recently and only
hatched eggs are found, you may not have to treat since
the eggs could be from the old infec.on.
If your child has head lice – tell anyone who has had head
to head contact with them and ask them to check their
family for head lice.

MMCSS prepara*on for possible online NAPLAN
tes*ng. MMCSS is par.cipa.ng in a research ac.vity into online
assessment for NAPLAN. Students from Year 3, 5 and 7
will be trialling a NAPLAN style test in reading and nu-
meracy next week. These tests, which will be via com-
puters, will be administered by a specially trained super-
visor. Individual student’s results will not be available to
the school but this process will give us valuable infor-
ma.on about managing online tests.
