The Royal Edinburgh Hospital Patients Council was grateful toreceive funding for one year to enable it to extend its work withincollective advocacy in the Care of Older Adults and Children &Adolescent Mental Health Services. Patients, carers and staffhave seen the benets that collective advocacy can bring by:

empowering patients to express their views; increasing patientslevels of condence and engagement; nipping problems in the

bud; improving patients experience on wards; assisting staff toget things done to improve the ward environment; identifyingcommon themes and passing these on to management.

We really appreciate the comments we have received from

patients and carers about the value they place on our work. They have told us:

Members of staff also value the work we do:

Lets give the last word to our volunteers, themselves serviceusers, who bring a unique perspective to our work:

We hope that funding for this part of out work will be found toallow us to continue this work, building on our good relationshipswith patients, carers and staff, and the new ways of working wehave developed.

ThE sONG OF WaNDErING aENGusby William Butler Yeats

I went out to the hazel wood,Because a re was in my head,

And cut and peeled a hazel wand,And hooked a berry to a thread; And when white moths were on the wing,And moth-like stars were ickering out,

I dropped the berry in a streamAnd caught a little silver trout. When I had laid it on the oor

I went to blow the re aame,

But something rustled on the oor,

And someone called me by my name:It had become a glimmering girlWith apple blossom in her hairWho called me by my name and ranAnd faded through the brightening air.Though I am old with wanderingThrough hollow lands and hilly lands,I will nd out where she has gone,

And kiss her lips and take her hands; And walk among long dappled grass,And pluck till time and times are doneThe silver apples of the moon,The golden apples of the sun.
