Monday 10th September 2018 Term 3 Week 8

From the Principal’s Desk

Our Year 4 students returned from Victor Harbor on Friday after three fun filled days. No doubt there are many, many stories to be told. Our Year 5 students have arrived safely in Narrabeen and are enjoying their first full day of activities. It won’t be too long until our Year 3 and Year 6 excursions head off in the final

week of this term.

Next Monday evening we have our second P&C Meeting for the term. At this meeting we will outline the selection processes for the 2019 School Captain. Following this meeting the

processes will be sent home.

We have had two students accepted into the Aurora Virtual Opportunity Class - Eva Vigar and Esther Wenham. Both girls will commence some taster online lessons with the peers next term in preparation for the main focus in 2018. The focus will be on STEM lessons that

extend their current learning. A wonderful opportunity for our two students.

I continue to be amazed at the high standard of quality learning that students come to show me, it fills me with a great sense of pride. I know from my chats with the students that they are also very proud of their learning and only too happy to explain what they did and why it is

important .

Have a wonderful week of learning!

This week’s Assembly

will be held on Friday at

2.15pm and hosted by 2S

This Saturday is “World Cleanup Day”.

On Friday we are going to spend 10 or so

minutes cleaning different parts of the

school…...so it would be awesome if the

kids could please bring some gloves.

Thank you

On Wednesday 5th September,

Year 4 embarked on an 8 hour bus

trip to Victor Harbor for their

excursion. They saw penguins on

Granite Island, went on a horse

drawn tram, learnt about whales

and visited the Urimbirra Wildlife

Park.

On Friday we returned home,

exhausted after a jam packed, fun

filled couple of days.

2S and 1D – Project-based learning

We started by investigating the

amount of fruit scraps going to waste

every day in our own classes.

Then we asked the rest of the school

as well.

We discovered that at MSPS we have

SO many fruit scraps!

We then used

gloves and sorted the scraps.

A worm farm!

Did you know that all of our fruit

scraps currently go in to land fill?!

We decided that we needed to

work out a better way to use our

fruit scraps so that there isn’t so

much going to waste.

We did some research and

discovered that there was a great

solution right in front of us that

would work for our school……

A worm farm!

We are now planning to present

our idea to the P&C using

videos, letters and posters we

have created.

We are excited and hopeful

that our school will have a worm

farm soon and our fruit scraps

won’t be wasted!

On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, 2S and 1D have been working

together on a project called Scrapping the Scraps.
