SPRING SEMESTER EVENTS BLACK HISTORY MONTH Morgan State University Women’s Black History Month celebration was held on Sunday, February 5, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. in the University Student Center, Room 316. The program featured a presentation by Dr. Margaret Roberts Davis, which included a discussion of her recently published book, Fear Not! Is There Anything Too Hard For God?  WOMEN’S  HISTORY  MONTH      A  Women’s  History  Month  program  was  held  on  Wednesday,  March  7,  2012,  at  7:00  p.m.  in  the  University  Student  Center  Ballroom.    The  program  featured  Susan  L.  Taylor,  Editor-­‐in-­‐Chief  Emeritus  of  Essence  Magazine  1981-­‐2000.    Ms.  Taylor  discussed  a  broad  range  of  topics,  including  her  own  life  story,  her  work  at  Essence  Magazine,  and  her  nonprofit  organization  ”National  Cares  Mentoring  Movement.”      A  book  signing  was  held  at  the  end  of  the  program.

Thank You!!! Thank you to all who donated to the Lucy D. Holmes Scholarship Fund. As you may recall, Morgan Women were challenged to match a $500.00 donation from one of our members. Our president, Dr. Earlene Johnson Roberts, is pleased to announce that we exceeded the match. Thanks to the generosity of those members who picked up the gauntlet, we are able to lift up another Morgan student.

Scholarship Application Forms Application forms for the current Holmes Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 have now been distributed. These forms may be picked up from the Counseling Center, Office for Career Development, Office of Financial Aid, and the Information Desk in the University Student Center. The deadline for applying is Monday, April 30, 2012. For more information, contact Ms. Nina D. Hopkins at 443-885-3130 in the Counseling Center.

v Dr. Monica Windley Walker has been named the new Chair of the English Department at The Community College of Baltimore County. She is a graduate of the Community College Leadership Doctoral Program at Morgan State University. Kudos to Dr. Walker from Morgan Women.
