Governor’s Corner Greetings Brothers and Sisters, I would like to thank all outgoing and incoming officers for the job they have done. We are looking forward to another successful year at Callao Moose 917. I am open to any and all suggestions. If you have any ideas, please leave them in a envelope behind the bar with the bartender. Please leave your name and phone number so we can discuss your topics. I would like to thank Keith Williams and his assistants for cooking during the International Meeting on June 25th and 26th. Joint installation went very well. Thanks to all that came to the ceremony. I am looking forward to serving you as your Governor this year. Jason Childress 804-761-5598

Hello to all Members and Co-Workers,
I would like to thank you for voting me into office as your next Senior Regent. I know right
now with the COVID-19 issues, everyone is taking all precautions necessary to be safe. The lodge is doing the same. Everything is starting to open up, and the same is true with the WOTM. We have resumed our regular meetings on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7 PM –
we would love to see you there. The WOTM cook the Queen of Hearts dinner on the 1st Thursday of each month. If you would
like to prepare a dinner on one of those nights, please let me know. Any help is greatly appreciated. Installation of Officers took place on Saturday, June 27th at Noon. I would like to thank Michele Stotz (Installing Regent), Barbara Boothe (Installing Chaplain), Faye Hall (Installing
Guide) and Mary Jane Withers (Installing Chairman). The ceremony was very nice, even with the safe distancing regulations. A list of the new officers and chairmen is in the back of this Moose Scoop. We have some “new blood” in the Chairs this year and these Chairmen are planning on some
fun-filled events for everyone. We will keep you posted as plans unfold. We are always looking for new ideas for fundraisers. Any thoughts or ideas you have are welcome. We
need YOU to help make this upcoming year fun, fresh and profitable. Our next meeting is on July 7th at 7 PM. Activities/Sports Committee (Tina Moss) is hosting the night. Come on out for some fellowship and fun.
Hope to see you there!!

The Fourth of July—also known as Independence Day or July 4th—has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution. On July 2nd, 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence, and two days later delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a historic document drafted by Thomas Jefferson. From 1776 to the present day, July 4th has been celebrated as the birth of American independence, with festivities ranging from fireworks, parades and concerts to more casual family gatherings and barbecues.
Did you know? John Adams believed that July 2nd was the correct date on which to celebrate the birth of American Independence and would reportedly turn down invitations to appear at July 4th events in protest. Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died on July 4, 1826—the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

The Tommy Moose® program aids in helping children overcome fears and anxiety during times of stress. Donated to Law Enforcement, Fire, and other Emergency workers, Tommy Moose plush dolls are presented to children in various traumatic situations. In addition to this service, the Tommy Moose character has grown to personify happiness, safety, and security through personal appearances, books, and on children's goods.
Tommy originated as a Moose community service project in Connecticut and soon spread throughout the US and Canada.
Since 2002, over 100,000 Tommy Moose plush dolls have been donated to shelters, hospitals, and emergency workers, who in turn deliver them to children in need of some comfort when facing some of life’s biggest challenges.
