She says, “We joined because we wanted the camaraderie, the fellowship, and a safe place to go out and enjoy a band, dinner, or drinks with friends. We’ve been fortunate to make some new friends through our Moose membership and we enjoy the fact that we can go to so many places and be a welcome Moose member in any different lodge in the nation. We also take advantage of the insurance and travel (hotels, car rental discounts) benefits.” As the Recorder Joy is responsible for a variety of tasks. She is the person who is responsible for going between the Chapter and Moose International; she enters data into the Moose International database where all WOTM member information presides. The recorder handles all money for the Chapter, including dues, weekly deposits, fundraisers, campaigns, the AUCE breakfast, paying bills, writing checks, handling donations, and ensuring all quarterly Federal, state, and local payroll taxes are filed. She is also responsible for all WOTM forms needed for Moose International; distributes the monthly newsletter to Chapter members; and runs a list of members who are in arrears each month and lets the retention committee chairman know so reminders can be sent out or Officers can approach and encourage them to renew their dues. She is also responsible for entering new member applications into the database and sending out orientation letters inviting new members and sponsors to orientation night, as well as attending WOTM Officer and Lodge business meetings. Joy had to take a special training to learn her job as officer and recorder; which was provided by Moose International and paid by the local WOTM chapter. She says, “It’s a huge responsibility and I feel honored that the WOTM put their trust in me to handle their money and all of these responsibilities.” Joy took on the Recorder position because there was a need at the time and she has an accounting background. “I wanted to help out. It gave me a positive way to give my time and effort to the Chapter. While this position does provide some compensation, it’s not about the money. My husband Darrell and I enjoy the monthly WOTM AUCE breakfast, we enjoy meeting new people, and we enjoy the Moose Rider events. I really like the idea of being able to give to children in need and support our elders because they have given so much to us,” Joy says. Joy also says that making the Lodge an inviting place for people to bring their families takes effort but that its worth it. As her year-long commitment as the WOTM Recorder comes to an end, Joy wants women members to know, “We need people to step up and take on officer positions. Without officers there is no chapter. You won’t be a Lodge member, or a Moose Rider, and you can’t sign the book if there is no WOTM Chapter. The women raise a lot of money and donate a lot of money and time to this Lodge; without the WOTM there will be no more kid’s parties, no more charities, and no more AUCE Breakfast.” Joy and her husband settled in Hadley 15 years ago. They wanted a community located in between their families. “Our daughter was in 3 rd grade when we came here, she is now a senior at Commodore Perry. My daughter participated in the scholarship program; we are hoping to hear from the Pennsylvania Moose scholarship program this Spring. This is an extra benefit for Moose members’ children and grandchildren.” In addition to her daughter Joy has 3 sons. Message from the Senior Regent Women of the Moose 1890 Shelia Doddo, Senior Regent

Happy March, and soon to be Spring! A few reminders:

St. Patrick’s Day — The bar and kitchen managers are working together to provide some food and beverage specials during March Madness and St. Patty’s Day.

Easter Bunny AUCE Breakfast — Mark your calendars! Breakfast with the Easter Bunny is fast approaching. Please make sure that you sign your child, grandchild, niece/nephew etc. up; the sign-up sheet is on the glass case inside the social quarters. We are also asking for donations of fun size candy for the kiddo’s treat bags. Thanks to Marcy Webb for the time and effort she is putting into this event. If it is anything like the Christmas Party there will be plenty of smiles.

WOTM Officer Nominations -— As my term is coming to end, I cannot help but sit back and reflect on how the past year has flown by. While I still have a few more months as the Senior Regent, I want to take this time to thank everyone that served on the board, committees, appointed offices, and every WOTM that donated time, items, baked goods, soups, etc.

However, I am sad to say this might all might come to a quick end due to the lack of seats within the WOTM Officers being filled. The WOTM Chapter does a lot for this Lodge. For single ladies that don’t have a partner that is a member, myself included, they will no longer be able to come into the lodge. We will no longer have a monthly WOTM AUCE breakfast and the children’s parties will be gone as well. Last but not least, we will not be supporting our local community or Mooseheart and Moosehaven. If anyone has any ideas, is interested in a position but unsure, or just wants to talk, I am available.

2018 International Moose Convention This year’s Moose Convention is being held in New Orleans, Louisiana from July 11, 2018 to July 15, 2018., You can find out more on the Moose International website: http://www.mooseintl.org/new-orleans-convention/

WOTM #1890 Officer Nominees Needed to Keep Chapter Ladies, the nomination box for WOTM officers will remain available for a few more weeks. It is on the glass showcase inside the social quarters at the Greenville Moose Family Center. Typically, we would be voting for new officers now, however we have not had many nominees, if any, for our available positions.

Officer positions available include the following:

Senior Regent – overall responsibility for running meetings and the WOTM Chapter for the year

Junior Regent – supports the Senior Regent and WOTM Chapter as needed

Secretary/Treasurer – takes notes and supports WOTM

Recorder – responsible for the monetary portion of WOTM

PLEASE understand if there are no officers to fill the seats the Chapter #1890 will fold. The WOTM support the following:

Mooseheart / Moosehaven

The local community

The Greenville Moose Lodge #276

Without the chapter you will become a part of the All Heart Chapter (Moose International) as long as you remain an active WOTM; you can transfer to another chapter for a small fee. You will not be allowed to sign the daily book in the social quarters. You can come to the Lodge with your spouse only, or you can be signed in as a guest twice by your partner; however single ladies will not be allowed in the social quarters. In addition, there will be no more AUCE monthly breakfast, children’s activities, monthly charity baskets, other fundraising activities, and a host of other fun events sponsored by the WOTM. Chapter #1890 is a huge part of the Greenville Moose Family Center.

Please come be an integral part of your WOTM chapter. If you are unsure of the duties or have questions about the Chapter, the positions, or the nomination process, please see any current Officer or any Past Regent. We need your help to keep our Chapter from folding.

Administrator Update Bill Frampton

Please support the WOTM Chapter 1890 in their Officer Nomination endeavor to ensure they keep the Chapter open. The WOTM do a lot for this Lodge, including supporting the men; activities for the children; Bingo nights; summer picnic; and charity events. I would like to ask for our women members to consider stepping up for one of these important, year-long positions.

Nominations for new Lodge #276 Officers are going on now as well, so if you’re interested in becoming an officer please fill out a nomination slip for the position that you want. Officer nominations are in March and elections for both the men and women are in early April. Officers will be installed in late April. If you have questions please ask any current officers.

Valued Veterans Update—Committee Members Needed Bill Frampton

We have now fully initiated the Valued Veterans Program and our new Greenville Committee could use your support. We are looking for people to join (men and women, Veteran or not) to help us plan and organize the Valued Veteran activities for the year so we can improve what we offer.

In 2017 we had an AUCE Veteran’s Breakfast, providing recognition to our local Veterans, which seemed to be enjoyed by all and was hosted by the WOTM. We encourage all Veterans to self-nominate as a Veteran on the Moose International website.

We are looking for any suggestions on how to grow this program within our Lodge. Please feel free to submit your ideas to me directly until we can get the committee up and rolling and have formal meetings.

The Moose 25 Club The Moose 25 Club program was established to provide an incentive for members to sponsor their family and friends into the fraternity. Sponsor incentives are given for annual and short-term campaigns, but the Moose 25 Club is over your lifetime of being a Moose member.

Once you sponsor your 25th member into the Loyal Order of the Moose fraternity, regardless of how long it is between the first time you sponsor a member to your 25th, you automatically advance to the Moose 25 Club. Further advancement within the Moose 25 Club program is in increments of 25 up to 200, then increments of 50.

At the International Moose Convention, members of the Moose 25 Club are invited to a special event. In addition, Associations throughout the Fraternity also have Moose 25 Club events at their Annual or Mid-Year conferences. The Women of the Moose became part of the Moose 25 Club in 2008.

For more information on the Moose 25 Club check out the Moose International website.

2018 is getting off to a slow but purposeful start.

10th Annual Bike Blessing — Do you enjoy our annual bike blessing? Well mark your calendars, it’s scheduled for June 9, 2018. It is our 10th year so we want it to be a special, fun filled day. We are looking into a DJ and/or band for our steak or chicken fry-style dinner.

Moose Rider Sweatshirts — In order to earn a sweatshirt this year you will need to attend 4 events in addition to the monthly meetings, for a total of 10 activities (events/meetings). See me for questions.

Meetings/Dues—We would love to hear your input. Meetings are the first Monday of each month. If you haven’t paid your dues for the year see an officer and they can assist you. Moose rider activity fee is $10 and you don’t have to have a bike to be a member. We currently have 115 members. See one of the Moose Rider officers to renew.

Highway Cleanup — We are planning doing our annual highway cleanup sometime in April. More details to follow as we get closer.

Guns of Christmas—We are looking into doing a 10 or 12 Guns of Christmas again this year. More details to follow as we flush out our summer rides and Holiday events for 2018.

Meet Your Treasurer Ron McCartney

A member for over 12 years now, Ron is currently the Lodge Treasurer and Entertainment/Activity Committee Chair. As the Treasurer he is responsible for all financial aspects of the Greenville Moose Family Center. As the Committee Chair for entertainment and activities, he ibooks the monthly bands and DJs; helps organize the children’s parties (Easter, Halloween, Christmas); manages the karaoke contest, the annual summer picnic and Halloween Boo Bus, and all the Lodge holiday parties, including St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Halloween, and New Year’s Eve.

Ron has held several officer positions, including One-Year Trustee, Two-Year Trustee, Prelate, and Junior Governor. He says, “I was asked a long time ago if I wanted to run for a Trustee position; I liked seeing how the lodge was run and enjoyed the position. I’ve stayed involved ever since.”

He goes on to say, “What we do for Mooseheart, Moosehaven and our local community is fantastic. We recently donated to the addition at Moosehaven, as we have previously for Mooseheart. We also donate to local children to keep them involved in T-ball, basketball, and football.”

When asked about getting millennials more involved in the Lodge, Ron said, “It’s a good idea to figure out ways we can get them involved, support the lodge, and become members. If we could get some bands and activities that cater to the younger generation, we might be successful.”

Ron is a native of Greenville, and after serving in the US Army for four years he lived in Tacoma, Washington for a few years. He has two grown sons that live there now. He is married to our WOTM Junior Regent Wendy McCartney; both are involved in the success of the Greenville Moose Lodge.

What is the Moose Council of Higher Degrees?

The Councils’ main responsibility and goal is to aid the Lodges, Chapters and Moose Legions in the retention of active dues paying members through personal contact. Our Council members run various social programs and do a fair amount of fund-raising as well. Support of Moose Charities initiatives and our fraternity in general is often very rewarding as done by these groups. After all, they are made up of past and current leaders who believe in our cause and know our needs and how to fulfill them.

Additionally, the Councils normally have an annual banquet and/or other events to honor those new degree holders who have advanced in the past year. These events recognize the individuals and offer a chance to publically thank them for their service among their peers. This in itself promotes benevolence and charity among all members.

As members of the Higher Degrees, these groups are generally in the forefront of support and promotion of Moose programs and lead the cause of fraternalism by example. These groups, at the Chapter, Lodge and Moose Legion level, may meet as often as desired to socialize, work towards building membership strength, raise funds for Moose Charities and help with various other fraternal endeavors.
