Seriously though we are a local store......one of the main reasons we embarked on the
adventure that is Alps & Amici, was to further the work we had been doing at our former restaurant Strathlynn with local producers.
Daniel had always worked hard building relationships with local
producers so as to showcase their produce. The Alps & Amici
store allows Daniel and the team to present local produce to a
much higher degree. It also presents an opportunity for value
adding for our customers. Our focus is to always make our
customers’ busy lives a little easier... and a little tastier.
The Alps & Amici Café is an expansion of our foodstore and
kitchen and of course our locafood / locastore philosophy.

Welcome to Coles Bay and all the best for a great weekend of running, riding and paddling!
I used to be a fanatical multisporter before becoming a specialist paddler. In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s you could basically do a multisport event every month with the Cradle to Coast, Mersey Descent, Arthur Descent, Ben Lomond Descent, Leven Descent, Dial Descent, Tullah Challenge, Trevallyn Classic and Mt Field Winter Challenge in Tasmania, alongside the Mars Challenge and Upper Murray Challenge in Victoria. These events were always a great adventure, awesome fitness training for kayaking, and took you off the beaten track and out of your comfort zone.
My first Freycinet Challenge as a competitor was in 2005, running and paddling in a 2-person team. From 2011 to 2019 I’ve enjoyed competing purely as a paddler alongside sponsoring the event. We come to the event every year because we love the scenery, the East Coast bays and beaches, the vibe of the race and the camaraderie between everyone involved.
This event is special for us because back in 2010 Next Level Kayaking began by coaching paddlers competing in the Franklin Winter Challenge and the Freycinet Challenge. I remember printing out flyers to give out to people at both events, then coaching 1-on-1 sessions at the local yacht club on weekends and staying up late on Sunday nights writing training programs. Up until 2017 I ran NLK on my own, steadily building it up alongside my day job as a scientist, raising a young family, and training for paddling competitions.
Fast forward a few years and NLK has expanded, going from one coach to 6, including 2 female coaches. We now operate on a full-time basis across Tasmania, mainland Australia and beyond. We still do a lot of local coaching in Hobart, with our morning and evening sessions infamous for getting many of you into shape for this event…including a few thrills and spills along the way! We also stock all sorts of paddling gear, including Epic skis & kayaks, Jantex paddles, apparel from Vaikobi, Mocke, Enth Degree and Azur, plus all manner of accessories.
If you need any kind of help with your paddling or equipment, checking out our website www.nextlevelkayaking.com.au is the best place to start.
Have a terrific event and enjoy this beautiful place,
Ben Maynard – Next Level Kayaking
